Riverside Baptist Church Garage Sale   Saturday   September 3, 2011   INSIDE the Fellowship Hall   Proceeds to benefit the Youth Local Mission Project   Toy Store   The RBC youth do projects throughout the year to raise money to purchase new toys for Christmas. Local families in need of assistance are assigned a time to “shop”. They are allowed to pick the toys from the store that best suite their children’s needs.   The RBC Women on Mission group usually has a special treat for the parent (usually the mother) doing the shopping. We don’t want them to be left out. Last year we did manicures, one year we did bracelets.  Thomas Lake Road VFD Labor Day Barbeque   If you live in or near Walker County you don't want to miss the annual fundraiser for the Thomas Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department. This Sunday, September 4,  from 11-2 the TLRVFD  will be serving up barbecued brisket, chicken, and sausage ♥ along with ♥ potato salad, beans, iced tea, and dessert! This feast is a mere $7.00 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-10, and children under 6 eat FREE! I have been attending and or working these barbecues since 1995. While the food is WONDERFUL, my favorite part of the entire event is the cake auction! Big Al is our instigator auctioneer and he engages the audience in a healthy war for cakes and other merchandise.  The cake auction starts at 12:30. Riverside Baptist Church is doing Vacation Bible School this week. Last year I taught 1st and 2nd graders. Besides the fact that that age is the wildest of the entire bunch -- it is really difficult to do the pictures AND teach. The only way for me to get away to take photos of all of the kiddos was to work in the kitchen. For those of you who know me.... you probably just spit your drink on the computer screen. WHAT? Joni in the kitchen?! You've got to be kidding! No worries. They don't actually let me cook or anything. I've iced cupcakes, washed dishes, filled cups with koolaid AND quizzed the little ones about their favorite animal at the ZOO (tonight's snack was "zoo food" since the theme is Big Apple Adventure.  NY City  - Bronx Zoo - Get it?! ☺ LOL! Hey Riverside, TX! Dollar General is Coming to Town!   Most of the residents of Riverside and the surrounding area are well aware that Dollar General  is coming to town! This is just a little update for the weekenders who may not have heard the good news or are wondering how things are progressing.   The building is going up rather quickly and... if things go anything like they did when they built the two in Huntsville... we will be patronizing Dollar General VERY SOON!
