Located just 47 miles northwest of Austin, Marble Falls is in the middle of the Highland Lakes area, the largest chain of lakes in Texas which are Lake Marble Falls, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis. With a population of 7,200 it is a beautiful little town. Surrounded by rolling hills and lakes, Marble Falls is the perfect place to work, live and play. Visitors and residents should not have problems with finding something to do in this small community. Downtown Marble Falls has a six block area that has been restored for shopping. There are antique shops, restaurants and a relaxing walk near Lake Marble Falls. Visitors can also take a "Vanishing Cruise." It is a cruise on the Colorado River, above Lake Buchanan. On the cruise visitors can see beautiful Bald Eagles in t...

On a Saturday excursion through central Texas hill country, Gene and I stopped alongside the road outside Marble Falls to see the view of the hills and the Colorado River.  It was just a roadside stop with picnic tables and there was a monument for Oscar J. Fox who composed a song "The Hills of Home".  A LaQuinta has been built blocking much of the view (nothing like progress).  However, one could see what inspired this songwriter to write this soulful ballad.     Our country is rich with talented artists.  I'm challenging you, my friends in Active Rain, to hit the road or look around your surroundings and find people or their works that have enriched our lives.  It's enough that all we hear on a daily basis is wave after wave of news reporting one crisis after another. Let's start...

Our previous assistant always raved about the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls.  We decided to make a day of taking in Texas signts and started by driving to Marble Falls on our way to (well, kind of on our way) to Johnson City to see the Christmas lights.  If you are looking for the best chicken fried steak (I know it's calories plus and not good for you but once a year give it up) and a slice of homemade pie you must check out the world famous "Blue Bonnet Cafe".  It's always packed! This is the 80th year they have been serving up good food, at an affordable price with a smile on their faces!  Their pies are homemade and baked fresh every day.  They are open every day but do close December 24th for a 10 day break (heaven knows they need it!)  Many think the cafe was named after the...

Marble Falls is a small city on the shores of the Colorado River in the Texas Hill Country. The city was founded in 1887 by General Adam R. Johnson, and incorporated in May of 1907. Marble Falls is located 47 miles northwest of Austin and 85 miles north of San Antonio, so it is centrally located and accessible from two large metropolitan areas. Marble Falls is in the middle of the Highland Lakes chain, and after the construction of the dam which created Lake Marble Falls, the marble falls themselves were no longer visible, unless the lake levels were lowered by the Lower Colorado River Authority, which caused them to be visible in certain locations. Marble Falls, frequently referred to as the Gateway to the Hill Country, was originally founded when Adam Rankin Johnson traveled down the ...

I opened my AR blog today for the first time since late last week and found a post from Rick Eichler that I really enjoyed.  You see, Ricki and I met for pie at the Bluebonnet Café in Marble Falls last Friday.  She chronicles the pie eating in her latest post.  I'm not sure if she mentioned that I'm the one who suggested the Fudge Pie that she's still raving about!  Ricki is an amazing woman who is as beautiful inside as she is outwardly.  It was a true joy to have met and spent time with her.  Our visit brought back some great memories.  You see, Ricki is from the Kerrville area, which is a little more than an hour from here, and is an area where I have spent countless days hunting and fishing.  One of my favorite places to visit is the Lost Maples Café located in Utopia, Texas.  It's ...

I can't believe it!  I just read Jem Woods blog and there is no new post since last Friday.  I've been gone and just knew I would come back to a new post about the incredible warm Fudge Pie, Jem and I enjoyed at the infamous Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls, Texas.  Sorry Jem, guess I beat you to it. I enjoyed our visit very much.                                                                                               The Bluebonnet Cafe is located on Hwy 281 in Marble Falls.  Anytime you get this way be sure and stop for some of their famous pie.  They also serve good homecooking with all your favorites like Meatloaf, Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Catfish, mashed potatoes, garden vegetables and so many more.  The Bluebonnet Cafe is really famous for their homemade pies.  Tender flaky...

I was just looking at the levels of Lakes Travis and Buchanan and thought of how silly some local REALTORS look by having old photos in the MLS of their waterfront listings.  Some show photos of a cove or the lake from the back of a house and you can see 40 feet of dry rock before you see the low lake, at least on Lake Travis.  Anyone listing Central Texas Highland Lakes real estate who has old photos really needs to get some new ones up.  By the way, anyone with a waterfront listing on a constant level lake like Lake Marble Falls is OK.
