For the past couple of weeks, I've been posting a "How Was Your Weekend?" blog. People have seemed to enjoy seeing how my family and I spend time together, so here's another weekend. We went to the Bee Cave Galleria, also known as the Hill Country Galleria, where they have this area of shooting water.  Great, FREE Entertainment! We went out on the boat to check out Lake Austin. The water is much colder than Lake Travis, but with it being 107 degrees, the water felt awesome!!  These are half of my in-laws with Alyssa and her shades. This is the "360 Bridge" that crosses over Lake Austin. We went to the Lakeway City Park.  There was no "beach" that we were told a lot about, but we found where the beach usually is along with a sign that says to Swim at Own Risk!  It looks out of place thes...

EarlyAct FirstKnight is something I posted about a while ago. It is an ethics and character education program for grades K-8 that also has a community service club component. Part of the implementation is an optional show with costumed war horses and knights in armor. Here is a video I took showing the last few minutes of the show at Lakeway Elementary School. The kids absolutely loved it.

A new community service club was started at Lake Travis Middle School (LTMS) in January.  Sponsored by the Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary Club, the LTMS club is called EarlyAct.  Similar to Interact at the high school level, which stands for international action, EarlyAct is for younger students.  Students at LTMS this year organized a pet food drive that gathered almost 700 pounds of pet food for a local animal shelter.  Below are the officers and charter members of EarlyAct at LTMS. I was lucky enough to be one of the Rotary advisors to EarlyAct at LTMS.  When I am not working with clubs like EarlyAct and Interact, I am selling Lake Travis real estate.

Opportunity knocks for those wanting a project and can turn around an almost cool design on a great Lake Travis waterfront lot with a boat dock.  This new construction Austin modern home is partially completed and was on the market last year for almost $2 million.  Now it's being sold as is for $500k. The lot alone is probably worth that.  Lake front modern bones for $79/sf...hmmm, the numbers could work for the right team to go in and finish up. This one is being sold as-is and will require the bank to approve the sale.  Call me for details.  512-413-0870 Austin modern homes

A new street is opening that will connect Lakeway, TX to Spicewood, TX.  The initial grand opening was slotted for May 2009, but they are a couple of months behind, but for those thinking Spicewood might be too far of a drive for you, I wanted you to know about this short-cut being created! Currently, if you need to get to Spicewood, you have to drive all the way down 620 until it deadends into 71, hang a right, and go 9 miles before you reach the first Spicewood community. Now, instead of driving past all those schools and their school zones, you can bypass all that traffic by cutting through Lakeway and getting all the way to 71, just past Bee Cave.  Yes, you'll have slower, residential speed limits, but you'll have less traffic, until more people catch on, or more people move out th...

Lakeway is a beautiful resort community, situated just west of the major city of Austin, Texas. Appealing to both singles and families or all ages, this area has experienced tremendous growth since its early days as a vacation destination. The area has a crime rate well below the state and national averages, making this community a very safe place for its residents. Made up of a combination of middle class families and wealthy retirees, Lakeway is one of the most desirable areas in which to live, within the suburbs of Austin. History Lakeway was developed around an inn and resort that is still a central part of the town. The main attraction of the resort complex was and still is Lake Travis, which offered residents of nearby major cities a place to escape and vacation. In the years foll...

Lakeway Texas Subdivision Information: The Preserve at Lakeway Most often when you think of preserves, you don't think of a place to live. You think of a place to visit - an area blanketed in beautiful nature that someone has thought to save from man's development. While that is generally a true assumption, it is not so in the case of the Preserve at Lakeway. This is a development that is surrounded by nature but open to man, open to you who are looking for the perfect home. HistoryWhen Austin was developed, many were unsure of how it would progress. It lacked the confidence cities such as Dallas and Houston had and the history the more Eastern cities like Philadelphia and New York had. But Austin grew and continues to grow, outpacing nearly all other metropolises in the country. As suc...

Imagine having your own park, with acres of land reserved just for you, your family and your neighbors. No strangers could wander through the grounds; no unknown dangers could lurk in the trees. Everyone and everything would be known to you. It's a beautiful thought, but unfortunately, in most places, not a realistic one. Very few communities have their own private park. In fact, it would be extremely difficult to find one, unless, of course, you lived in Travis Landing, a small neighborhood located along Lake Travis and Lakeway with its very own 35-acre neighborhood park. HistoryThe land that is today Travis Landing was originally home to the Comanche and other Native American tribes. Unlike in other areas, European settlers were slow to build there - Wiley Hudson erected his ranch in ...

Where you live shouldn't just be panoramic. It shouldn't just be luxurious. It should be safe - you shouldn't have to worry about your children at night; you should be confident that they are secure in their home, with no dangers nearby. And it should be environmentally clean - you shouldn't have to worry about the purity of the land and water around your property. Fortunately the developers of Vineyard Bay knew this and built a safe, gated community on the cleanest lake in the state, Lake Travis. HistoryWhen Lake Travis was formed, it set the stage for communities - communities nestled in the heart of Texas Hill Country but only moments from the bustling city of Austin. There, residents could find peace and quiet at night, away from work, yet experience the fun and activity of a true m...

Some are lucky enough to live along the coast, able to see the ocean, hear the rush of the waves and dive in whenever they desire. Others are not. They live nowhere near the sea, but that doesn't mean they have to give up the water. There are lakes that offer the same possibilities and although a different beauty, an equally inspiring one. Marina Village at Lakeway sits along Lake Travis, and gives Texans who find themselves landlocked in this giant state just that opportunity. History As the city of Austin continues to grow in popularity, so do the surrounding areas. People today are realizing that there is more to Texas than the urban areas that traditionally garner so much attention. Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston are not the only cities in the state. Austin offers urban experiences,...

Growing up in Houston, I vividly remember the commercials by "Mattress Mack" owner of Gallery Furniture. His closing line was "I'm gonna SAVE YOU money!" and he was waving a wad of cash at you the viewer. This Sunday I got to see first hand what all that money bought. After twenty-five years of saving Texans money on furniture, he had saved a nice nest-egg himself. So in order to share the wealth and make the world a better place, Mattress Mack opened up his personal vacation home for a Seton Hospital Fundraiser. There were three busloads of people that had paid to attend this event. During the ride to the house wine and water were served. At the mansion, we were served a variety of Hawaiian themed appetizers. The bartenders whipped up the Mack-atini's. Which is a tropical juice infused...

One of my favorite builders is Toll Brothers. The reason is they are very consistent about the high level of quality in their homes. Granite counter-tops are standard and they use beautifully handcrafted wrought iron on the stair railings and crown molding, and the list goes on. They have recently dedicated themselves to becoming a more 'green builder'. They are focusing on using more green and recycled materials whenever possible. They are building homes that get excellent marks for water conservation and energy efficiency. Many of these new Toll Brother's homes also feature a 'walk-out basement/game-room. They also have lovely state of the art amenity centers and the developments are well laid out. One of their communitys, The Enclave at Alta Vista is in the "close out" phase. Which m...
