The Plant Environment     The Plant Environment is located at the corner of 19th Street and Normal Park in Huntsville. If you are not paying attention, you may just think it is a park. It’s  is one of those fun places to go! I do not feel like I am shopping for plants. It feels more like I am touring a garden and get the added bonus of being able to purchase plants while I am there! There is no “store”. The plants are strategically placed around  and you just pick the ones that you want. There is a little covered area to take them to where you pay. It’s just the neatest thing since slice bread.       The Plant Environment is located at 1809 Normal Park Drive in Huntsville, Texas (77340). From Houston, Take I-45 N to Huntsville, exit #116, turn right on 19th Street (Ward’s Furniture) and...

The Houston Kitchen     The Houston Kitchen is a replica of what a kitchen looked like in Sam Houston’s era. In addition to cooking, the kitchen was used to do laundry, make candles and soap,  and also for bathing.               For several reasons, the kitchen was not part of the home like it is today.  Families built their kitchens near the home, but not attached to it.  Safety was a main concern as there were lots of fires in kitchens because of all the grease that they cooked with. Another concern was the heat! The heat from a stove was not a desirable characteristic of an 1800’s East Texas home! ☺   The Sam Houston Memorial Museum  complex is home to the annual Sam Houston Folk Festival where folks dress in 1800 attire and demonstrate how things were done when Sam Houston was alive....

The street is wide, not as highly traveled as SH 19 -- AND their is a FIELD of bluebonnets with trees and a wooden fence in the background. Stay tuned for some field shots... and TUESDAY I will post some of Zoë in the bluebonnets!   Why Tuesday?! Because the girl has to get her hair done first! DUH!       View Larger Map

Lake Oolooteca (AKA The Duck Pond) This photo was shot at Lake Oolooteca (The Duck Pond) at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum park located on Sam Houston and 19th Street in Huntsville, Texas. The Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex is a great place to do photos for any occasion. Last year while I was shooting prom pictures, we saw a photographer doing a wedding. When I took these photos last week, there was another photographer doing some children's photos in front of the azaleas. The stairs to the homes, old bricks on the fireplaces, and  log cabins make interesting backgrounds. Besides great photo opportunities... it's a great place to: read a book have a picnic study feed the ducks take a walk This is an especially nice place to take the kids. I can't think of a better field trip for t...

When I first saw one of these, I dubbed it a TULIP Tree. So when the hubby and I went to Stewart's Nursery... (This was MANY years ago!) We walked right up to the counter and asked for a tulip tree. Without batting an eye, the lady proceeded to show me right where the tulip trees were located... and politely informed us that they are called...       Saucer Magnolias. (muffled snickers) We purchased one... Took it to the truck... and voted.   It was unanimous... OURS was going to be a TULIP tree! ☺

I shot this photo while sitting at the red light at SH 75 and I-45 in Huntsville, Texas. The hubby was driving and I rolled down the window and snapped several shots before the light turned green. This one was my favorite because of the semi that is moving down the highway. The funny thing is... when I shot it, I complained to my husband that it messed up my photo!! Well, I was wrong! ♫ like a band of gypsies we go down the highway... ♪ Good night from Texas!
