I have been away on vacation, and it takes a while to get back into the groove of daily life. As I was coming back from dropping my son off at the bus stop for school this morning, I looked around to see if it was recycling today. There were neighbors with their bins out, so I fetched mine for the curb. I noticed that not many of my neighbors had placed their bins out. In fact, only about a quarter of them had done so. Houston's mayor has been pushing for more residents to take part in recycling, and it is a shame if we do not take this simple step to help out. Recycling happens every other week on the normal trash pick-up day, and they take many of the items that can be reused. Thinking about recycling caused me to remember another campaign from the mayor's office: grease disposal. Ha...

Bad news abounds when it comes to home sales. However much of this news is dealing with the national scene. Is there any good news for sellers in the Houston market? Actually, there is. Builders are holding off on new home construction. The inventory of homes on the market has not risen dramatically high as in other parts of the country. Realtor Associations are predicting that many buyers will be coming to the market soon, probably towards the end of the school year. Home prices are still rising, although in no great bounds, in the Houston market. So maybe you should be thinking of having your home ready for the selling season. What can you do for this preparation? Well, one perfect task for the season is pruning trees and shrubs. When top growth is slow, roots are still growing. As a h...

I've got to admit, I love this town.  It's great to be in the heart of Harris County Texas which is a  nice mix of big city and old country lifestyle.   Being in Houston is Great.  The city is wonderful and the Job market is great.  And I really love the location.Houston, Texas is close enough to the Gulf of Mexico that I sometimes even get to make a trip south to go Boating.  Next time you're in this area, be sure to check out this great city and county.

I wrote a post last Veterans Day on The Greatest Generation and a non-profit that helped soldiers visit their battleground campaigns.  One of my clients read it and sent me a response asking me to "Please remind people about the veterans that come home and have a hard time adjusting.  We are trying to make sure there are services for them when they return."  My client, Tom Mitchell is the director for a non-profit called US Vets Initiative Houston.  US Vets Houston is part of the US Vets initiative.  US Vets is the largest operator of homeless veterans programs in the country.  Started in 1993, US Vets has ten sites in 6 states; serving more than 16,000 homeless veterans.  Each year more than 1,100 veterans are finding work.  US Vets Houston provides counseling, job assistance, housing ...

Even with all the incentives being offered, discounts and opportunities available in the market in Houston, many buyers are still not going after homes. A couple reasons seem to stand out. One is, with all the media about the economy and pending recession, many are happy keeping their money in a jar in the back yard and waiting on safer times. Another is that people appear to be trying to time the bottom to get the very best deal available. Each day we get closer to the Fed meeting, more speculation comes up about the rates being cut and dropping again. Saying that, many people are sitting on the sidelines and hoping to get the cheapest house at the lowest rate possible. While I am all about getting a great rate and a home at the best price, I also feel that many great deals are avaiabl...

What if you could buy a brand new home in a growing community, lease the home immediately for more than your monthly note, and have instant equity of 10% or more? Does that sound like a solid investment? These opportunities abound in Suburban Houston, where home values and rental rates continue to climb. Nationwide homebuilders are suffering from slowing markets outside Texas, so they're offering incredible incentives to unload inventory homes. Typical inventory homes can be acquired for 10-15% below list price, yet homes built-to-suit are still selling for at or near list price. All of this in a market where commercial and residential development is as strong as ever. Take this example: In the popular Spring area of North Houston, a major homebuilder is offering homes starting in the ...
