Cadence Cyclery in Highland Village, Texas is now open for business!   I love when new businesses open in Highland Village, especially ones that are locally owned and operated.  As a small business owner myself, I make sure I get to know business owners in my community.  We all want to have a successful business with happy clients and a good reputation in our neighborhood and I truly enjoy being able to meet such great members of the business arena. Cadence Cyclery in Highland Village is the second location for owner Chad, who opened up his first location in McKinney about two years ago.  Along with Damon, the Highland Village store GM, the two turned their passion for cycling into a successful business venture after years of trying to find a career that satisfied them personally and pr...

Ah breakfast, how I do love thee.  And now, you give me another reason to cozy up to you in Highland Village. Seven Mile Cafe off FM 407 across from The Village Church is the newest hot-spot for breakfast, lunch and brunch.  This is the second restaurant started by Kevin Klingele and his wife, Josi, after the first converted house to restaurant in Denton two years ago turned out to be such a success! And why not?  With fresh, made-from-scratch pancake batter, cakes, and salsa, whether it's these yummy blueberry pancakes with fresh fruit compote or the cage free egg scramblers, the menu at Seven Mile Cafe won't get old anytime soon.   The pancakes were light and fluffy and weren't dense like some pancakes can be.  You know, the kind that stick to the roof of your mouth and require a gall...

New businesses are making their way into The Shops at Highland Village over the coming months and the news is getting locals excited! Last week, I attended the Highland Village Business Association's Community Coffee event that featured city council members and area commercial developers in an intimate setting at Patrizio's.  The event was open to all residents and local business owners or anyone who just wanted to get an idea of what was going on in Highland Village. Luke's Locker opening next to Talbot's is receiving cheers from the fitness enthusiasts in Highland Village.  If you have a need for new shoes or gear to help you look good while getting in shape, Luke's Locker is slated to open on October 13th.   A few new restaurants will be making their way to The Shops as well.   Gri...

Are you looking for garage sales this weekend in Highland Village?  I hope your calendar is empty because this is the weekend it all starts!  The weather started getting *a bit* cooler which means it's time to get rid of those things you no longer need. For the past few years, Castlewood and Highland Shores have been teaming up to offer more garage sales than you can imagine and stretching it over two weekends.  The first day is Saturday, September 14 and the following Saturday, September 21 are weekends you can either shop 'til you drop or try to make some extra cash.   An added bonus is if you have any items that didn't sell and you want to donate them, jump in your filled-up vehicle and bring the items to the tennis courts the following Sunday between 8 am and noon.  A Goodwill truck...

In case you weren't up at 7 am this morning in Highland Village, this is what you missed... It's amazing how quickly the colors change.  I walked outside at 7:00, put my daughter on the bus at 7:02 and walked back inside.  I looked out the window again 15 minutes later and it was nothing like it was. Take advantage of the moments in your life like a beautiful sky before the chaos of life begins.  You never know how quickly they will be gone!

Helen's Photography is locally owned and operated by, you guessed it, Helen!  With over 25 years of photo-telling experience, Helen recreates a story about the road your child has taken, who they've become, and where they're going through photography. Progress...Finally...on FM 407 in Highland Village! If you're a resident of Highland Village, you've become accustomed to endless traffic, orange cones and one lane going east or west.  The frustrating "Right Turn Only" lane at Briarhill and 407 with pushy motorists squeezing their way into the left lane was exhausting.  So the other day while I was sitting in the left lane and saw a car next to me, I was ready for someone to illegially speed through the intersection and cut me off.  BUT WAIT!  What just happened?!  Can it be true?!   Here I am parked in the right lane on FM 407 heading west and not only are these two lanes open, but so are the two lanes going east.  Woo hoo! It's a beautiful thing!

I am one step closer to becoming a card-carrying member of the SMC, or the Suburban Mom Club.  Well, that's just what I call it.  I will probably never get my full-fledged membership as I continue to opt for the less-than convenient, gas-guzzling SUV instead of a mini-van.  But, I have checked off many boxes like enjoying an adult beverage before 5 pm during the week, attending a home jewelry party and getting regular pedicures.  My most recent addition was taking on a volunteer roll with my daughter's school's PTA. I remember going to elementary school with the tiny manilla envelope with a few dollar bills to donate to my own school's PTA so it's just natural to join the PTA at Heritage Elementary in Highland Village, TX.   Did you know that for the first time ever, you can join the PT...

As a resident of Castlewood in Highland Village, TX, your annual HOA dues go for more than just "management fees". Castlewood is, in my humble opinion, the best neighborhood in Highland Village.  This quaint community is vibrant, active and has an outstanding board of directors and volunteers that put on fun and exciting activities for its residents. The Back to School party is a way to bid farewell to summer (at least by the school year starting, not the temperatures!) with friends and fun.  Hang out at the pool under the fancy shmancy new pavillion, eat pizza and snow cones, and take goofy pictures in the photo booth.  The party is from 6-8 pm but if I know my neighbors, the fun won't end at 8! Bring your towels and have a blast!

You are probably aware that Whole Foods is making its debut in The Shops At Highland Village next year and that Coldwater Creek is relocating.  What you may not know is that Coldwater Creek The Spa will be closing for good at the Highland Village location.   I have been sitting on a gift card from a client for a REALLY long time so while I was shopping there yesterday, I figured I better make an appointment before I can't drive two miles to get a beauty treatment.   It's been a long summer.  I haven't had a pedicure since May and if you're a woman who gets one regularly, you know how long that is between pamper appointments.  So I have decided to make one day, a day for me.  Well, at least for a few hours. I booked my facial appointment at Coldwater Creek, then plan on a massage after t...

Can we all agree that $3000 is a lot of money, especially when it's going to an elementary school? The past two years, Heritage Elementary (Go Hawks!) has been the big winner of the generous donation from The Shops at Highland Village in Highland Village, TX.  One of the improvements made at Heritage was the addition of the "Hawk's Nest" a cozy place for students to enjoy reading books and iPads.  How cool is that!   So, it's that time of year.  There are many ways you can support your local elementary school and you can see all of the rules and ways you can help your school some easy cash!  Keeping shopping local at centers like The Shops at Highland Village is a win-win for local business owners, residents and our schools! Elementary School Rewards Program Program Dates: August 16, 20...

As I was driving through the streets of my neighborhood, Castlewood, in Highland Village, TX this afternoon, I noticed these signs all over the place. A few weeks ago, I did notice a sign like this in a small section of Castlewood but it was just one and that was the location of the trap to capture those nasty creatures.  So, of course I had to call and find out what the story was about mosquito spraying in Highland Village. I spoke with Angela who was very nice and quite helpful.  Turns out that there WAS a positive test for a mosquito carrying West Nile virus this round of testing.  As you can see by the map below, the green square is the location of the trap and positive results for testing.  This is located on Excalibur in the grassy area between Camelot and Mayfair.   What that mea...

I have mixed feelings about this sign I saw today off FM 2499 and Live Oak near LA Fitness.  Another signal was just planted on my southbound route on 2499 this month, making that 19 signals in an 11 mile stretch of already congested road.   While I don't doubt that this area is accident-prone and confusing to many drivers, is it really necessary?  Travel south 200 yards and you have the even more chaotic entrance to The Shops of Highland Village where I have seen several accidents, yet no signal.  And I would be shocked if there wasn't a signal where the new Market Street is just north of 1171.   Anyone who has a child that attends Heritage Elementary knows that most parents would give their left kidney for at least a signal during school drop off and pick up. So, just be aware that y...
