My kids make me laugh with some of the things that come out of their mouths.  So when my four year old says that Easter is about candy, I quickly remind him that it's about Jesus.  "And candy".   Fair enough.  The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Castlewood of Highland Village, Texas is just one of the great events put on by our HOA.  Not only are there eggs to be collected, but crafts, pictures with E.B., snacks and the Boogie Woogie Choo-Choo. If you plan to attend, please bring a dozen filled eggs per child participating to the Clubhouse by Friday.  If you aren't able to drop them off, Jillian has a pink plastic bucket you can leave them in.   Don't miss your chance to see friends and neighbors this Saturday, April 12 at 1:30 pm.  See you then!

Notice that the title of this blog post is not "Why Is Community Important?" To me, the idea of community is not something we question as important.  Having community, and not just being part of a community, IS important.  My husband and I are hurdling towards a decade in our house in Castlewood in Highland Village, TX, which I just can't believe.   We moved here when we were fresh-faced newlyweds with dreams of life in a new place.  Raising kids, teaching them to ride bikes and schleping those same kids to soccer games, were visions in my head as we stood in front of a vacant lot we eventually built our house on.  Things I really didn't anticipate happening like skipping rocks with three children on nature walks, having the same bus driver for years, getting involved in the PTA and mee...

Babysitter?  Check.  Husband?  Check.  Wine?  Check and double check. This Friday, February 28th at 7:00 pm, the residents of Castlewood in Highland Village will stroll on over to the annual blind wine tasting put on by the homeowner's association in the Clubhouse.  With various meats, cheeses, specialty treats prepared by fabulous residents and desserts for all to share, this event is always a good time. Bring a bottle of red or white wine to "donate" to the group.  Each bottle will be wrapped up in a paper bag and placed on a table for each person to try.  Did you taste the citrus?  How about the roasted chestnut?  Was it tannic?  Did it you dump it because it was so bad?  Maybe it doesn't really matter!  You just like to be social and throw back some wine! The past two years, bargain...

Did you realize that if your little one turns five before September 1, they can officially register for (I know, it's scary Mom and Dad!) kindergarten in Lewisville ISD? And did you know that LISD now has an open enrollment program for families to make a decision about which campus fits their needs best?  As long as you live within Lewisville ISD boundaries, you can attend any of the schools you wish.  But, keep in mind, the "turtle" bus stops right in front of our house which means, I don't have to get in my car and take my child to school.  Sometimes the closest school is the best situation for you and your family if trying to figure out a ride to school is a difficult one.   Heritage Elementary in Highland Village is an exemplary campus with an active PTA, outstanding teachers and st...

Every now and then confusion arises when a Buyer's Agent writes up an offer using the wrong city or the buyer doesn't know the history or the origin of the place where they plan to live and the lender isn't familiar with the city either. This happens frequently when the buyer is from out of town, the agent and the buyer's lender isn't local, the agent is outside of their area of expertise, or the cities are so close it all seems to blend together, especially when the School District is the same for both cities. Why does this happen?      It all started with zoning lines. As population grew and the years went by, situations changed based upon census records. According to Wikipedia, a zip codes address and the city name written on the same line do not necessarily mean that address is with...

I woke up feeling joyful on February 16th and wrote the following musings:  Blog Entry: Sunday February 16, 2014   Later that afternoon I held an Open House with a focus on attaining intrinsic goals that has an impact on improving life for others. There were 16 families that came through my Open House. All were greeted joyfully. I am happy to report 438 Remington Point in Highland Village is now under contract. Although several couples spent considerable time visiting with me and taking the time to decide whether or not this could be their home one followed through. An offer was presented to my Sellers yesterday and the Buyers and the Sellers are joyful and happier today because the outcome intrinsically satisfied each of their goals.           Staying focused on your goal with pros...

Sunday Morning Musings...   LIVE WITH JOY. If you don't see flowers outside, buy a houseplant or give flowers or a plant to a family member or friend... perhaps you can send a plant anonymously to an Assistant Living Center.  I received a plant during the Christmas holidays and weeks later, it's still giving me the same type of joy I felt in anticipation of Christmas Day. The months are going by fast! Let's remember to live in joy year round and to give joy, joyfully.      LIVE SUCCESSFULLY. Being successful doesn't mean you always win; but it also means you don't always lose. I woke today successfully! A Carolina Wren sang outside my window this morning. Hearing the sound of a bird in the middle of winter; then spotting the bird on the tree branch outside my window reminded me that...

Sunday Musings.... January 19, 2014   I placed these flowers on an outdoor patio table yesterday then proceeded with getting my listing at 438 Remington Point in beautiful Highland Shores, Highland Village, Texas ready for showings. Later that day I previewed the photos and noticed I captured the essence of harmony within nature.           The modification of any living species, whether its trees, natural habitat or human beings are the cornerstone of any community. Trees form old relationships between people and nature. 438 Remington Point backs up to Corp property - that means no one is going to build there. Wildlife doesn't have to be forced to leave and the landscape will not be become bricks and mortar. These trees of the forest will continue to be a valid biological contributi...

When people ask you what you do for a living, what do you tell them?  I remember going through training when I was first starting out and my instructor asked our class this question.  There were several funny answers like "dream maker", "psychologist", "happy homemaker" but one that stood out to me was "educator".   I was taken aback by this statement as I really didn't think about a real estate agent being someone who educated a group of people.  At first glance, I felt like that was a more traditional teacher or child-care provider.  But, the more and more I am in this business, the more I realize that being an educator is, and should be, my first responsibility to clients.   I am currently in the middle of a transaction with a veteran agent of 20+ years in the business and what she s...

Special Government Rehab Program that offers Highland Village TX FHA 203K Loans. This article will explain the little-known special government loan program that is part of FHA (Federal Housing Administration- a department within HUD). A home buyer or existing home owner can remodel or update their home without having a higher cost second lien thanks to this special FHA loan program. "Luxury items" such as a hot tub or a swimming pool are not allowed with this FHA loan program. Items such as remodeling cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms, painting, adding wallpaper, replacing appliances and flooring, or even adding a room to an existing structure (which will increase the value of the homes square footage) are allowed. There are many advantages with this government loan program but the bi...

I went out of my comfort zone this year and embraced the fact that I am a card carrying member of the PTA, soccer mom and taxi cab service.  So when the email went out with the charge to the PTA board members to help out for two hours dressed as Clifford the Big Red Dog for the Heritage Elementary students during the Scholastic Book Fair, I went ahead and raised my paw, er, hand. Don't I look cute and cozy?!  My two hour stint as Clifford was quite fun and rewarding.  Here are five things I learned today that you might want to keep in mind if you ever decide to volunteer to wear a mascot costume. 1.  IT'S HOT.  I was happy that it was 35 outside but in the sweatsuit that is Clifford, it was 127 degrees.  You think I'm kidding.  I could feel sweat dripping down my back just getting the s...

If you live in Highland Village, TX, this is a welcome sight around the holiday season.  The glorious 54-foot tall tree standing in the center of The Shops at Highland Village is bound to get even the most bah-humbug of Scrooges into the Spirit of Christmas.   Tuesday, December 3 is "Our Village Glows", an annual tree-lighting celebration kicking off the holiday season in Highland Village, organized by the Highland Village Women's Club.  This family-friendly activity has been taking place for over 10 years and has something for everyone.  Enjoy carolers, hot chocolate, cookie decorating, face painting and a chance to tell Santa what is the must-have gift of the year. This is an event my kids and I have attended for several years and enjoy it every time.  Festivities start at 6:30 and e...
