As a born-again foodie (I was a very picky eater the first two decades of my life - got to that age in Texas without eating Mexican food OR BBQ!), I try a lot of restaurants, BBQ joints, dives, biergarten's, and other such sources of divine eats.  Each Friday, right here, I'll be sharing with you a treasure from my list of Must Eat findings.  Today, we'll be visiting The Hollow, on Austin Avenue on the downtown Square in Georgetown, just west of the Courthouse.        The Hollow is a French Brasserie with delicious food in an elegant setting.  I first experienced its delights when a fellow agent and I were looking for a quiet place to have lunch and do some planning for an upcoming event.  The Hollow was new in town, and it's just a block from our office (Danger, Will Robinson!), so we ...

As I told you all earlier, I recently changed brokers to Goldwasser Real Estate.  Goldwasser Real Estate opened a Georgetown, Texas, office, and on First Friday, August 2, we're having a Grand Opening (read:  PARTY!!!!!) to celebrate.  We're having the event in conjunction with First Friday, and we're located just a block from the Georgetown Square, so you can include visiting all the great shops and restaurants and listening to the live music as well as the food, music, and fun at Goldwasser Real Estate.  Details are below.  I hope to see you there - ALL of you!

As a true bibliophile (read: reading addict - I'll read the print on the back of a contact solutions bottle if there's nothing else around to read!), I'm obviously enamored of libraries.  And the Georgetown Public Library is high on my list of places to spend time.  Not only because of the books, both to check out and in their used bookstore, Second Hand Prose, not only because of the Red Poppy Cafe where pastries and coffee are available, not only because of the occasional live music events and other activities, but because of the art scattered throughout the building on a rotating basis.  I love art, too, and especially sculpture.  One of my delights is to arrive and, before I've even entered the building, see what new sculpture awaits me outside the entrance.  There are a couple of p...

Downtown Georgetown, TX has just become a little more cool. Well, that's what they said in my decade, the 80's. I guess now they would say "sick" or "fly" or something else that really doesn't make sense....but then again I'm sure my parents didn't understand what "cool" meant either.   Ken'z Guitars and Accesories has moved from slightly off the square to a primo piece of real estate directly across from the Courthouse in historic downtown Georgetown, TX. It's on the same block as a few of my other favorite downtown places, such as Hill Country Bookstore, the Escape, and Landmark Tavern. In fact, I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than strolling downtown, grabbing a new bestseller, starting my Christmas shopping a little early, stoppin by a music store for a little f...

The first Saturday of every month, in downtown Georgetown, in the courthouse square (note Courthouse on right) , for several months out of the year, there is Market Day.  Vendors, food, music, people - all the ingredients that go into making up the recipe that creates a classic Central Texas event. Today, November 13, 2010, is the final Market Day of the season, and what a grande finale it is!  In addition to the usual fare, today is the Inaugural Chili Cookoff and Beer Garden.  Cooking started at 8:00, chili and beer will be available at noon.  We've got a brisk, sunny, windy, cool day, just perfect for chili!  In addition, the event is a fundraiser for the annual Christmas Stroll (we're very fond in Central Texas of making our parties into fundraisers for worthy causes, and making our...

Lots has happened since this blog was first posted.  What you need to know, though, in order to make sure that you get Ruby's chicken fried steak, is that Ruby's Cafe in Jarrell is now Ruby K's in Georgetown, just off the square.  Same great food, with an expanded menu (encouraging my waistline to do the same!).    ************   We live out in the country  near Jarrell, Texas, a small, but growing, community north of Georgetown and Austin.   When we moved here, the community was much as it had been for a long time, a delightful small town farming community.  Over the years we've been here, growth has come to Jarrell as it has to most places - we have a couple of subdivisions on the outskirts and things are changing for better and for worse, as they always do. One of the positive change...
