National Night Out will be celebrated in Texas on October 2, 2012. The rest of the country celebrates NNO in August, but if you have ever spent an August evening outdoors in Texas with all of the mosquitoes, heat and humidity, you will understand why Texans prefer the October date.   In Friendswood, neighborhoods will be hosting block parties and community events to help build community spirit, help neighbors get to know each other, and send a message to criminals that they are not welcome in our neighborhoods.   National Night Out is designed to accomplish several goals, including:   ·        Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness ·        Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs ·        Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership...

Folks in Friendswood have their American flags flying this week to honor the memory of September 11. The local Boy Scouts help contribute to the patriotic spirit by placing flags along the curbs of many neighborhoods around town.   For a small yearly fee, the Boy Scouts will place a flag by the curb in front of your house on appropriate days throughout the year. The flags go up in our neighborhood on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, September 11, and Veterans Day.   Most of the residents in our neighborhood participate in the Flags Across Communities program with the Boy Scouts. It’s a great fundraiser for the scouts, and it really makes the neighborhood look awesome when all those flags are flying.   This week, the flags are a reminder of the spirit, pride and strength of the ...

Tonight I am craving Mexican food. I suggested we go out to eat but I was told we had way too many leftovers in the refrigerator and meat in the freeze we needed to eat. I had pictures of LUNA’S or Rancheros running through my head. These two excellent restaurants are located in Friendswood Texas. Try it you will like it! If you are thinking about moving to a smaller city near or in the bay area give me a call. I am your locale Realtor® so let me show you around!

I don’t know about you, but I have a box full of old computer cables, phone chargers, power supplies and other electronic accessories, and I have no idea what they all go to. All of that stuff has been accumulated throughout the years, and I guess we were reluctant to get rid of any of it, in case we needed it someday.   Well, I need my closet space more than I need all of that electronic mess, so it’s all going to be recycled on Sept. 22!   The Clear Brook High School Band, together with Electronic Scrap Recycling of Houston, will be holding an electronic recycling drive at Clear Brook High School on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Anything electronic, including PC towers, laptops, monitors, cables, cell phones, batteries, printers, cordless phones, electric motors, Christma...

The City of Friendswood has many established and new construction residential subdivisions to choose from, if you are moving here. One of the better established subdivisions, in my opinion, is Windsor Estates. Homes up for sale in this neighborhood are few.  The subdivision has a scenic walking trail and a lovely reflection pond. West of this subdivision and within walking distance is Friendswood Sports Park, 27 acres for all you baseball and soccer enthusiasts. The golfer in the family can enjoy Championship Golf Center driving range, which is also located to the west and within walking distance of Windsor Estates. Windsor Estates has an active Home Owner Association to ensure continued property values. There are currently two beautifully landscaped homes for sale in Windsor Estates....

I fully intended to get around to taking pictures of all of them, but only managed to snap this picture of Friendswood United Methodist Church. This is a photo of the new sanctuary. The old one is in the background, and it is still used for Sunday school classes, and other functions.     If you are looking for a church in Friendswood, you might want to check out one of the following churches. They are all full of friendly folks, and there are lots of activities and opportunities at each one.   Calvary Chapel – 3700 FM 528 Church of Christ in Friendswood – 2051 W. P.F. Chang's is coming to Baybrook Mall!!!     FRIENDSWOOD - Adding Asian flavor to its dining options, Baybrook Mall is set to welcome P.F. Chang’s China Bistro to the shopping center in early 2013. The new restaurant, which will be located on the south side of Baybrook Mall near the ring road, will be the national restaurant company’s sixth in greater Houston and the only one east of I-45, in the Bay Area.   Construction is set to begin later this year and when completed in the first quarter of 2013, the new, 7,000 square foot P.F. The nice home at 704 Castlewood in Friendswood closed today with Rose King representing the sellers. The buyers will be starting a new life in a great home with a brand-new baby! That’s right…closing was delayed a day because the buyers were in the hospital delivering their adorable baby boy! The sellers were happy to accommodate a closing delay so that the buyers could welcome their new little one.   Another successful closing, brought to you by Friendswood Realtor Rose King!

Today I went to the Kemah Boardwalk with family for dinner, and while standing on an upper deck at the restaurant, I spotted this little guy perched on a streetlight on the boardwalk. He looked like he was about ready to jump off of that lamp and dive into the water.     It was a lovely evening – the cool gulf breeze was a welcome relief after another day of hot Houston temperatures!   Happy Tuesday!

Boca Raton must be a highly desired neighborhood. I say this because  very few homes are ever for sale there. All the homes have nicely manicured lawns and the people that I know who live there are engineers, NASA workers, City Officials, and it is really a nice neighborhood to live in. West of this subdivision and within walking distance is Friendswood Sports Park, 27 acres for all you baseball and soccer enthusiasts. The golfer in the family can enjoy Championship Golf Center driving range, which is also located to the west and within walking distance of Windsor Estates. Boca Raton has an active Home Owner Association to ensure continued property values. There are currently three beautifully landscaped homes for sale in Boca Raton. The Prices range from $240,000 to $289,000 Home squar...

What’s In A Name? I was reading a blog picture-post recently written by Shelia Newton concerning street names.    Several subdivision developers that I have worked with in the past have told me that a lot of thought goes into the naming of the new projects. With the naming of the subdivision also comes the naming of the streets within that newly created neighborhood. Scott Black, God rest his soul, always had lots of fun pondering names for their subdivisions and street names. One subdivision was named North Pointe Trails and all the streets were names after race car drivers, such as La Rocco. Another developer named his subdivision Mustang Crossing and all his streets are name accordingly: Pinto Pass, Lasso Court, and my favorite Stallion Ridge. In Angleton one person decided that This...

Hurricane Season Are You Ready? Did you know that if there is a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico you cannot get flood insurance until after the disturbance is gone? Its hurricane season here for us gulf dwellers. Are you ready for a hurricane? I guess the first thing to get ready for this season is not to wait until the last minute. Check and see that your insurance is up to date and what exactly your insurance will cover and how much coverage it will give you. It can get tricky. If you live within a possible evacuation location you should do some or all of the following: ·        Get most important papers copied and email them to yourself; ·        Put the originals in a safe dry place, maybe a bank lock box; ·        Get drugs filled early and in a plastic bag for a grab and run; ·  ...

Citizens of Friendswood are true-blue patriots, and you can really see that red-white-and-blue spirit when the day-long Fourth of July Celebrations take place.   The festivities begin at 10 a.m. with the Grand Parade traveling down Friendswood Drive and ending at Stevenson Park. Come early and bring a lawn chair because there is a lot to see in the colorful parade!   At Stevenson Park, there will be lots of activities for kids, including a rock wall, bungee trampoline, water slide, Superman obstacle course, moonwalk, and dunk tank! Just five dollars gets you a ticket for unlimited games in the park.   The Friendswood High School FFA will also be on hand to serve up BBQ plates for lunch.   The evening program begins at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Park. There will be music provided by The Big...

If you haven’t heard by now, it is time to go change your password on LinkedIn. As reported by LinkedIn the passwords were compromised by hackers. LinkedIn has notified the uses that actually were hacked by email. So if you haven’t received an email you are most likely okay. This is a wake up call to go change your passwords. Be sure to add symbols, some capitalized letters and numbers. We are told to never use the same password on more than one website. I am going to have a really hard time with that one! I have changed my passwords but it has not been easy on my memory. Now on another note! Heck ask to Link to me guys! A few of you have and I thank you! I am trying to broaden my base there. This is a personal invite to you all!
