One of this year's more interesting dramas for the city of Dallas has been the proposed renaming of Industrial Boulevard.  I first posted on this topic back in May with The re-naming of Industrial Boulevard in Dallas.  I then followed up when the current controversy arose in June with But really... they had good intentions: Re-naming Dallas' Industrial Boulevard. Well this week, the City Plan Commission finally voted on a proposal to rename Industrial Boulevard as Riverfront Boulevard.  And the proposal was defeated by a vote of 11-3!  Media reports mention that a survey on renaming Industrial for Chavez played a role in the vote.  This follows an overwhelmingly negative response by business owners to a proposal that would have renamed Ross Avenue for Cesar Chavez. Replacing a bathroom exhaust fan isn't nearly as difficult as repairing mildew stained walls and ceilings.  The manufactures provide detailed instructions for the handyman, however, here are some hints to help keep your existing fan working or to choose a new one that works for you.   Moisture in a bathroom is your worst enemy; moist, hot air must be vented to prevent mold and mildew build up, peeling paint and warped doors.  One thing to consider is using a timer so you don't have to remember to turn off the fan when it finishes its job.  Newer models of exhaust fans are quiet, so it would be easy to forget to turn it off.    Your handyman will recommend having a fan that is capable of achieving at least 8 air changes per hour, with the exhaust of air continuing for 20 minutes after sh... 09/19/2008

Well the truth of the matter is that I have not completely learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.  I want things I don't need and need things I don't really want.  It is a daily struggle... One of the things I've learned throughout life is that everyone fancies himself as a pretty good critic of restaurants.  However, oft times those opinions and recommendations are based on limited experience. In my case, for an example, I've had the good fortune of sampling dinner in fine restaurants in most major cities throughout the US, but I've never been to a movie-style dimly lit cafe across the Atlantic. But I would like to tell you about two Italian restaurants that are within about one song or so on the car radio from our home in Dallas' Lake Highlands.  We think they're terrific. In what promises to be an exciting exhibit, on October 3, 2008, the King Tut exhibit will open at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Since the first King Tut tour in the 1970's (and Steve Martin's humorous parody song about his life), King Tut has to many people come to symbolize the mystery and intrigue of the Egyptian Pharohs. This exhibit promises to be an exciting and interesting one, featuring objects of the royals of the 18th Dynasty (between 3,300 and 3,500 years old) including 50 of King Tut's burial objects including his royal diadem, which is the gold crown discovered encircling the head of his mummified body that he likely wore as king. In order to get the big picture you must know a little history on the area.  Lake Highlands is situated just North of White Rock Lake in Dallas and has some of the most desireable topography inside the loop.  The area is desireable to families with children because the school system is exceptional for public schools.  We have many young couples moving back that grew up in Lake Highlands and simply cannot find another place they would rather be. Renovation has always been very welcome but many residents do not approve of the recent rush of new construction by certain builders.  Many of the concerns come from the older population that are happy with tiny bathrooms and even smaller closets so they really do not even understand the need for these huge, high dollar properties.  I personally ... 09/13/2008
