One man's loss is another man's gain and right now buyer's have everything to gain. It was only a few short years ago that sellers were in controlled the market and were calling the shots. In order to buy a home, buyers were paying over the asking price, they were foregoing home inspections and paying all their own closing costs. Dallas home buyers were jumping through any and all hoops. Now the market has shifted. The strong sellers' market is a thing of the past and it is the sellers who are jumping through hoops. On May 14, 2008, the Dallas City Council approved plans to build a 1000-room convention center hotel at the southwest corner of Young and Lamar, in downtown Dallas.  This hotel would be an economic boost to the city's tourism and convention business, adding 3,800 jobs to our local economy and allowing Dallas to compete for large conventions that we are now unable to compete for.  Because Dallas is the only city in the top 22 convention cities in the U.S. without a convention center hotel, we have been unable to attract certain large conventions and meetings, sending hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to others cities and leaving our world-class convention center at a competitive disadvantage and making that city asset an underperforming one.  Houston's convention center hotel ha... 03/28/2009

  Last week the Federal Reserve said it would double its purchases of mortgages debt...   The topic everyone speaks about nowadays is the economy that we are experiencing.  Friends and Family will ask how my business is doing and they are shocked when I tell them how well it is going.   The reason why business is still strong for me is because I get my clients to understand that the real estate news they have heard is not local it is national news.  So, when potential home buyers hear about double-digit price declines that worries them and they are relecutant to look at homes.   The reality is that Dallas has hardly been affected by the real estate bubble burst and the slow economy (we are truly lucky to be in the Dallas area).  For example my home appreciated 13% last year in a "bad" market!  If you take anything away from this blog then it needs to be what I write next.... 03/26/2009

Well, I continually get asked the question, "when do you think we will hit bottom in the Dallas housing market?". Lately, I have been saying, "I believe we already did during this 1st quarter". Now, this is just my opinion and we are in Dallas, TX, where home sales have taken a hit, but not nearly as big a hit as most other major metro areas across the U.S. Well, today, CNN is reporting that housing starts across the country were higher than those in January, which is GREAT!! With this news, I really do think that our market in the Dallas area has already seen "bottom". So, for all those who were "waiting for the bottom", I think they missed the boat!! Today was sunny and in the 70's here in Dallas and the folks at Newflower Farmers Market could not have asked for a better day for their Grand Opening.   Well, when your office...     Is located on GREENville Avenue...     ...you have to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit.  As an office we participated in the this Year’s Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Our float had a Wizard of Oz theme with agents dressed up in costumes for each of the main characters, a house with a tornado on the roof and lots of supporting agents in the St. Patrick’s Day best attire!  The float was built by our agents and office staff and demonstrated our team spirit and commitment to being a part of the community in which we work and contribute.        Our office neighborhood is in the heart of the GREENville Avenue Entertainment District, so the decorations that led up to last night’s celebrations were full of the spirit too...          Hopefully ... 03/18/2009

  I have posted in the past how the Dallas Arboretum is one of my favorite attractions in Dallas.  Even with my seasonal allergies, I am always excited when it’s time for Dallas Blooms (and thanks to the fine folks who make Claritin, I can enjoy my day among the flowers).  This year’s festival, sponsored by Chase, runs from March 7 through April 12, 2009.
