Getaway and come visit Canyon Lake Texas. A perfect place to bring your special one for Valentine's Day. Enjoy the lake, the Guadalupe River and enjoy the great outdoors. Time to makes plans to get away from the daily grind.     How's that for an opener?   Our neighbor has company coming for a visit and we have been looking at B&B here at the lake. We found Biscuit Hill Bed & Breakfast. This B&B is definitely a place I would enjoy staying.   We found out the Inn had been featured on the CBS Early Show, in Texas Hill Country Magazine and the Dallas Morning News Sunday Travel Section.   From the website: Directions - 15 miles west of Gruene and New Braunfels, 22 miles West of Wimberley and San Marcos at Canyon Lake, between Austin and San Antonio.. Bathtub Tile Surrounds - Carl Winters Thought Provoker Series #3   What happens when the bathtub tile grout is missing?   This goes back to why regular home maintenance is important. Inspect your bathrooms for maintenance you can do yourself. A bathtub surround will have to have maintenance at some point of time. it can be missing grout or even missing tiles. It's just plain smart to repair any issues immediately.   Contrary to popular belief, tile and grout joints (even sealed grout joints) are not waterproof, and a caulk or sealant joint alone between the tile and the tub will not ensure an overall waterproof assembly.  It is essential to provide a waterproofing system beneath the tile to prevent moisture and vapor from penetrating the walls. This will help prevent the potential for m...

~Tis The Season for Mistletoe. Oh what fun...I bet soon there will be allot of Kissing Under The Mistletoe.                                                         It's Tradition                                              It's long been tradition to display Mistletoe during the Christmas Season. Be sure to find a well traveled place in your home; maybe a doorway. Keep the tradition.   Even though it is beautiful be reminded the berries are can be dangerous if eaten.   Here is some information on berries that I found at the Poison Control Center, Children's Hospital Philadelphia. Berries Holly An evergreen shrub that can grow to be a tree. The leaves are stiff with sharp points and may be edged with white. The berries are hard and bright red. Eating more than 3 holly berries can caus...

1. Peace of mind                    2. Peace of heart                                     3. Peace of soul  Today  Thanksgiving dinner with the family was certainly a time to appreciate our blessings.  We all had to draw a letter of the alphabet and express our feelings at this time. I drew a P and this is the thought that immediately came to mind. After thinking about this all afternoon I realized how powerful those 3-P's are in our world. May each and everyone go into the holidays with a P - Peace of mind, Peace of heart and Peace of soul. Good Night to all our friends here on Active Rain Thanksgiving November 24, 2011

The Welcome Committee! Texas Hill Country Gate Art ................ "Living and Love Living at Canyon Lake TX". Gate-Art is a big thing here in The Texas Hill Country. We choose deer and an oak tree for the Gate-Art; seems appropriate since we have so many Hill Country deer in the area.  The other morning some deer came up the driveway and stopped at the gate, I hit the button and they walked right in. Now every time they come up to the gate they stop and wait for the gate to open.

A few simple steps that can save you some dollars.....   When was the last time you had a clogged drain? A clogged drain can certainly be a nuisance. Just by following a few steps you can avoid calling a plumber if you're not able to clear it yourself. Yes you can whip out the Drain Opener or other type drain cleaners or openers. That should get the job done. Maybe - Maybe-Not depending on the the severity of the clog. If "not" you'll have to call your friendly plumber.                                                                                                           Here is a  guide that will help avoid the drain openers or gadgets, and a call to your  friendly plumber. Don't take me wrong, plumbers are important; if we can avoid a call that means more dollars in your pocket. S...

Senior Citizens just having fun! Here's a Thought Provoker for Senior Citizens - Yes we are senior citizens trying to keep up with all this Texting stuff. If we can only remember all the short-cuts. My sister-in-law sent me an email with some of these, some I knew and some we added and some were submitted. What a great way to have fun on a Saturday morning.  They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers and, in some cases, dinosaurs. We may take a little longer for our eyes to see the screen and our fingers to move but Guess What? We can still learn new things like Texting but with a different twist. Check out our short-cuts. Being that "us" seniors are learning to TEXT and TWEET here is a great guide for us. Carl and Ceil Winters, Canyon Lake Texas                   ...

This is a heartwarming story that was in the San Antonio TX newspaper today.                 THE CENER FOR THE INTREPID - SAN ANTONIO TEXAS (WELL SPENT TAX DOLLARS)                                                                  Located at Brooke Army Medical Center As most of you know San Antonio is a big military city including a large well known medical facility that accommodates many of the wounded soldiers. They have been sent here from injuries that occurred from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The medical treatment they get is the best in the world. I read in the paper this morning that a new device has been introduced that can help with the recovery..called IDEO - Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis.     The 'Gold Star' Esperanza is known botanically as Tecoma stans and is in the family known as Bignoniaceae, which means it is related to the native cross-vine. It is a tropical native to the warmest parts of the United States. The Esperanza normally will reach 4 to5 feet tall. The Espranza blooms best in full sun. You can grow them around a porch or patio for great color. Well-drained soil is best. If you are new to the Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, San Antonio TX area You have probably noticed some beautiful plants that are blooming. Yes, even in a drought. They seem to like the hot dry weather we are having. However, they will need some water to remain blooming throughout the summer. The Gold Star Esperanza is a beautiful plant and would be great to add to your landscape. They can be...

The best Puffy Tacos !!!! You'll Like'Em Las Barcas (830) 899-2516 We stopped by our favorite Mexican Food Restaurant tonight on our way home. We started with some nice warm chips and spicy salsa .You always have to start with chips and salsa or you’re not a Texan. We both ordered Puffy Tacos, our favorite. If you don't live in Texas Puffy Tacos are made from masa and fried quickly, folded over and filled with seasoned (spicy hamburger meat), topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese and guacamole. Below....how to make the tortilla puffy. Start with fresh, uncooked masa tortillas. The tortillas are dropped into hot oil, and in the 30 to 45 seconds of cooking time, they "puff up" (almost as if the tortilla is being inflated). The cook pushes down in the middle of the puffed-up tortilla...

It's time to start a "Don Watch" News Blog....Right here with Carl and Ceil Winters                Our dancing may just pay off. Have you heard? Yes Don has been upgraded to a tropical storm and Don is headed toward the Texas Gulf Coast. Looks like Don may be paying Corpus Christi a visit. That increases our chance for some good rain in The Texas Hill Country. Hallejuah! Let it Rain. It will be a welcomed rain that we need so badly in this drought stricken area. Hopefully it will bring some much needed rain to South and Central Texas. Now let's be clear, we will welcome the rain, but no flooding or wind damage. A nice slow rain would be perfect. What will this rain mean? Water in the rivers, ponds and lakes. Maybe alllow the farmers to get a crop planted before winter. Replenish the aqu...

The Bad Boy's were waiting when I arrived home from New Braunfels this afternoon. Yes, I call them my boy's, curious, show-offs, and act like Bad Boy's at times. This is the time of the year when our Bucks are in velvet and hang together. We have anywhere from 5-8 that come throughout the day. Every time someone pulls into the driveway here they come. I did notice they were Bad Boy's today and did a real job on one of my rose bushes. Being that we are in drought conditions they are hungary and thirsty. I think they go down to the lake throughout the day for a drink but food is limited. At the present time their horns are in velvet; soon they will shed the horn-velvet by rubbing on low hanging tree limbs. I'm surprised how well they look considering the shortage of food. Hope you enjoy m...

This is our Neighborhood Watch Bird. Mr. P roams the neighborhood. You can expect him the same time each day, regardless of the day, month, year, weather. Mr. P is at our garden area each evening at 7:30 p.m. sharp. He doesn't come too close, but close enough that he watches every move you make. He loves "kitty food". After he has had his snack he "honks" and moves on.       Mr. P is the most inexpensive security guard. He honks when someone comes around that doesn't belong or he doesn't recognize. With the dogs barking and Mr. P honking you know you best check your property for strangers.                                   Mr. P doesn't like cameras. However, the minute you're not looking he struts his stuff and is so beautiful. I almost caught him but he likes to play Peek-A-Boo. He ap...
