We were sitting eating a bowl of taco soup yesterday after a morning of splitting wood, working in the garden and cleaning the barn.  We were making progress...  Then my sister's phone rang.  It was my other sister, Sara, asking if we could do her a HUGE favor.  Her son, Justin, had a visitor from China...a place where he had been for two years on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ.  They wanted to give him a "true" Texas experience and wondered if they (meaning Justin, his friend Michael from China and two of his friends) could come out and ride our horses.  I ain't gonna lie and tell you there wasn't a moment of hesitation in responding to her request...because there was.  We were getting things done and to stop and saddle up two horses and get them primed and ready to ride would me...

Back in the day...or at least "my day"...kids like myself couldn't wait for the times when we could watch shows like Roy Rogers, Sky King, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Wagon Train and Gunsmoke.  It wouldn't be unusual to see scenes in those programs where there would be a "friendly" competition to see who could rope the best or brand their steer the fastest.  To me it was a fantasy I only dreamed of...but here in South Texas it's been going on for decades.  If you have ever wondered just what real working cowboys do during their work week...then you need to take the time and go see the South Texas Ranch Rodeo event in Boerne, Texas this weekend.  This is just one stop along the way for dozens of cowboys to be in the top six teams to go on to the San Antonio Rodeo Ranch Rodeo Finals in Februar...

The wildflowers and gardens in and around Boerne Texas have been amazing this year. After an almost two year drought, we were blessed with some much needed rain in April and May and the flowers (and weeds!) responded with an unbelievable display of color and variety.

I will simply never tire of eating pizza.  Not sure where that craving came from...but I have to contend with it nonetheless.  The problem with that craving is there are few reeeeeally good pizza restaurants in Texas...but more specifically in Boerne, Texas.  No doubt, Texans have a corner on Mexican and Tex-Mex foods, but struggle in the area of truly good pizza. Move over Dominos and every other pizza wannabe...the Broke Stone Pizza Company is in the house.  I had seen a banner out in front of their location on 1022 N. Main Street in Boerne, TX and commented to my sister..."Gosh, do you think it might be a brick oven type pizza???"  It wasn't even two days later that I got one of those Val-Pak type envelopes full of coupons and found their advertisement.  I quickly read through the ad...

We just moved to the most beautiful place in the country just outside Boerne, TX...complete with 10 laying hens.  I was having my morning "quiet time" on my back porch...listening to the chickens mumuring and clucking in the yard around me.  I have had chickens before and spent quite a bit of time being entertained by their goofiness.  The fresh eggs are great...but the things you can learn from these quirky chickens are too many to count. Back to the chickens and how they are like buyers...  Make sure to take notes because this is great stuff for "breaking the ice" with your buyers...  Ahem...  The first thing we do when we get up in the morning is head to the coop to let the girls out.  All ten of them will be crowded at the door waiting to get out...kinda like how women bunch up at t...

If Walt Disney had been a Texan, perhaps he would have built Estancia.   Estancia is a development just three miles west of Boerne.  It was developed by Tom Cusick, a former businessman with a vision of a playground for adults and kids alike.  It is 1000 acres of prime hill country property.  There is a covered equestrian facility that could also be used for roping.  The indoor gymnasium is equipped for volleyball and basketball. Mom can keep an eye on the kids while working out from the second story or doing Pilates in the workout facility. The Arena Cantina would be a great place to watch the Spurs with neighbors or host a small party.  There are over 8 miles in the neighborhood for biking, hiking, or jogging.  If it is junior's birthday, you may want to have the party at the four-acr...

Limestone Ranch is really in Boerne - or is it? It is the neighborhood that is closest to San Antonio while still remaining in the well respected school district of Boerne. It is on the west side of I-10 right before you get to Fair Oaks - if you are coming from San Antonio. Be careful - you actually pay taxes in Kendall and Bexar County.  Most of the homes in the neighborhood were built by Perry or Coventry.  They are on generous sized lots and the homes have many amenities.  The neighborhood is currently gated - but the gate is only closed at night.  Limestone Ranch has only a small playground and the gated access so HOA dues remain low.  If you want Boerne schools, but work in San Antonio - this might be the best of both worlds.........................

Sweet Celebrations Party Boutique   I just attended the ribbon cutting for Boerne’s newest boutique. What a treat! Boerne has tons of antique and gift shops, but this shop is exclusively for the party planner! Since my friends and family have always told me that I should go into event planning, I instantly fell in love with this shop!   What it has: This boutique carries inexpensive but quality tableware, floral arrangements, party favors and super cute invitations! If you are entertaining a group of kids for a birthday party, or even hosting a wine and cheese party for the adults, the most dreadful part of the party is the end…the cleaning. Who wants to wash 50 or even 15 wine glasses?! NOT ME! This boutique has tons of colorful, themed paper and plastic plates, napkins, invitations,...

Blogger vs. Wordpress.com? Which do you prefer? I got my Mom started on her own cooking blog, and really pushed wordpress.com. I did this, so that if she wanted to ever take it to the next level, and have full control over her site, she could switch to wordpress.org. Now that she is really into it, and subscribing to lots of other blogs, she just emailed me an asked me, "why is EVERYONE else use Blogger?!" From my experience, the professional sites use wordpress.org and our friends use Blogger. Here is a site that compares the two. http://pulsed.blogspot.com/2007/07/blogger-wordpress-chart.html Here is another site that mentions that you have to TOTALLY redo your site if you wish to change your template on Blogger. That did it for me! Just like my clothes, I want to be able change my lo...
