One of the things that I love about this area of Central Texas, here in Bastrop, is the stunning sunsets we get almost every evening.  These pictures were taken just last week from my horse ranch down along the Colorado River between Bastrop and Smithville from my back patio.  Each sunset is so very different! Just had to share them.

Every day I drive by some of the most beautiful old oak trees that have been growing along side Alum Creek  TX for more years than I have been on this planet!  These trees are so stately looking from the road I have to suppress the urge to stop the car, hop the fence, and to get a closer look.  One of the trees has what we used to  called a hobbit hole when I was a child. Looking at this particular oak I realize that my imagination is still alive and kicking and given time could be as vivid as it was back then.    Texas has some magnificent and very historic oak trees through out the state.  They say the best way for a big tree to survive in Texas is to have something important happen within close proximity to it.  There are a few large oaks that are "in the road" trees that have been s...

Beautiful palomino horse eats his hay like I eat my Oreos, the middle first! This pictrure was taken in the Alum Creek area of Bastrop County Texas.  This is a Walking Horse one of many at The Pecan Grove.    I was driving by the Pecan Grove in Bastrop when I spotted this and it tickled me so much I had to make a U turn and go back for a picture to share with you all. The Pecan Grove is a fairly large pecan plantation that grows a number of different types of pecans annually sold in bulk and thru their small retail outlet on the plantation.  They also have some very nice minature horses and onkeys, and walking horses.

Here in Bastrop County, as well as the other counties the Colorado River flows thru here in Texas a lot of property along the Colorado River has a FEMA flood status of 100 to 500 years.  One of my Clients bought a 20+ acre in "flood".  One of the contingencies of the purchase contract required the Seller to have an elevation survey done, establishing which areas were the highest on the property.   Following the closing my Client contracted with a local contractor who came in and dug a tank (small water collection pond) using the excaved dirt to create a large elevated building site.  This  elevated site was compacted during creation by the large earth moving equipment but  was not hand compacted.  My Client  will let this potential future elevated building site "cure" , settleing natura...
