  J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill is a restaurant and bar in Arlington, TX.  If you live or have lived in Arlington, you have definitely been to J. Gilligan’s.  And if you have attended the University of Texas Arlington, you most definitely have been to J. Gilligan’s and even more so have enjoyed one of their cold beverages.       J. Gilligan’s has been around for as long as my memory goes back.  I remember some of my older family members spending a lot of time up there and some even worked there.  It’s just one of those places you love to go to and hang out with friends.  They have live music on a regular basis in addition to very good food and ice cold beverages.  If you ever get an opportunity to visit J. Gilligan’s, the must have dish is their signature Irish Nachos.  I promise you can’t ...

My home city of Arlington, Tx has been around since 1876.  Like many places back in those days, it was a farming community and also known for cotton ginning.  But what really made this city great and made it thrive was the opening of the General Motors plant in 1954.  Of course the man responsible for bringing GM to Arlington was the great Tom Vandergriff.  Vandergriff was actually responsible for so much of what Arlington has accomplished throughout the last 60 years, it’s really amazing.  That’s really a story in itself I suppose.  Still today, GM is a staple in Arlington.  When GM does well, Arlington thrives.  When there are threats of possible cutbacks or even a closing at GM, things get a little scary.       With as much industry and entertainment as Arlington has gained over th...

After 60+ days of 100+ degree temperatures, the Cities of Fort Worth and Arlington have finally implemented lawn watering restrictions.  This is considered Stage 1 restrictions.  There are several restrictions including watering only 2 days a week, restrictions on watering days based on even or odd number street address, and also there is no watering at all on Monday.  We all knew this would be coming since it has been so ridiculously hot for so long now, but it’s just amazing that it is coming so late in the summer.       Luckily, the weather forecast is calling for sub 100 degree temps starting late this week.  There is even some doubt as to whether or not we will break the all time amount of 100+ days in one year.  In 1980 we had 69 days over 100.  I believe we were at 62 after yes...

IN-N-OUT Burger has come to Texas.  I’ve yet to try it myself but in the next couple of months a restaurant will be opening in my town here in Arlington, TX. There are several around me that have opened already but I have no problem being patient.  So this brings me to my question.  When our hometown location opens, do I join all the other crazies and wait in the lines for hours only after battling the police directed traffic, just for another burger.  Is it just another burger?  It seems like any new place that receives all the hype is indeed just another burger for the most part.  Knowing me, I will be perfectly content with waiting a couple of months, or whatever it takes, so I can drive into the parking lot, park, walk directly into the restaurant, order, sit down and eat my fair ...

I live in one of the greatest and most entertaining cities in America…Arlington, Texas.  Not only do we have great people and terrific schools, but we have one of the best entertainment districts you will find.       First of all we are home to the greatest football team of all time, the Dallas Cowboys.  And of course the best team needs the best stadium.  Dallas Cowboys Stadium is the top of the line, state of the art stadium in the NFL…regardless of the train wreck of a Super Bowl we just hosted :)       We also have the reigning American League Champions, the Texas Rangers.  The Rangers play at a wonderful place to watch Major League Baseball, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  We’ve enjoyed watching the Rangers in this ballpark since 1994.       If you are more of a thrill seeker we ...

Homes in Arlington, TX which were damaged or destroyed by Tropical Storm Hermine in 2010, and eventually bought out by the city are now being demolished.  What was once a denseneighborhood will now be greenbelt and park area with scattered homes remaining which were originally built with the finished floor elevations at a level which is above the base flood elevation.  We can only wish those remaining home owners luck in the future. The lesson we learned here and from similar cases across the country is that flood insurance is a necessity for many properties, however in the end, if a home is destroyed and most likely going to suffer the same fate again sometime in the future, it’s best just   to bite the bullet and cut your losses.     Don’t get me wrong, I am a big advocate of flood in...

The question of the day is:  If ActiveRain Headquarters was in your neck of the woods, where would you have held the big bash?  If ActiveRain Headquarters was in my neck of the woods, I would hold the Big Birthday Bash at none other than “Jerry World” as we affectionately call it here in the Dallas/Fort Worth MetroPlex.  Otherwise known as “Cowboys Stadium”. I could not think of a more appropriate place to hold real estate related conference than at probably the most prime piece of real estate in the entire Metroplex.  Cowboys Stadium is located just south of I-30 at the corner of Collins and Randall Mill Road in Arlington, Texas.  Cowboys Stadium is just 15 short miles from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the world's largest airport so transportation is a breeze.  Here are my ...

Did you know there are condos for sale in Arlington, TX that are even cheaper than rent? It's true! According to MyApartmentMap.com, the average rent in Texas is $1003 and RentSpeed.com says the average rental in Arlington, TX is $635. Mortgage interest rates in 2010 have stayed at historically low rates, which means you can afford more house (or in this case, condo) for your money. If you wanted to keep your payments around $750 per month for a condo in Arlington, let's look at how your spending power drops every time the interest rates go up. To stay around the same payment at 4.25% interest compared to 6.25% interest, your buying power drops almost $20,000! Based on those numbers, every time the interest rate increases by 1%, your buying power decreases by $10,000. If you are paying ...

Networking At Cowboys Stadium In Arlington TexasMy wife Diana and I had the satisfaction of participating in a great networking event in Arlington Texas this week at Cowboys Stadium. This was our first ever before visit to the stadium, not only was the networking awesome so was this spectacular stadium. It is absolutely jaw dropping! We were given the grand tour of the facilities, the locker rooms, the suites, and finished up on the field for our networking. I've never been in such a large building but only in Texas everything is bigger. The imported wood lockers costing over $4000 apiece blew me away. The luxury suites were awesome, we didn't want to leave. They definitely put the "L" in luxury.Cowboys Stadium is a domed stadium with a retractable roof in Arlington, Texas. It will host...

When selling multi-million dollar properties at auction, there are no shortcuts.  Here's an example of something that rarely works---Click on link below.  Earlier this year, I had been speaking with the owner of this home and his real estate broker about getting the home sold through auction.  There was reluctance on their part to incur the expenses that are necessary for conducting a successful auction.  Now they have a failed auction on their hands, a home with a negative stigma attached, and if the owner is going to sell it now he'll most likely be forced to lose more money than the relatively small amount it would have taken to market the auction properly.  Beware.  Auction companies are sprouting up like weeds, so go with a company that has years of experience and knows what it tak...
