Who has the best burger in Arlington, TX?  Well this question has become more complicated in the last few months due to In-N-Out Burger and Five Guys Burgers and Fries throwing their hats into the ring.  I’ve recently been able to try both In-N-Out and Five Guys and probably by no surprise I liked them both.  I think it’s hard to make a burger that’s not good.  Of course not only do I like burgers but I just like food in general   So this is what I think.  At In-N-Out I had a double-double, animal style.  It’s a double cheeseburger and the animal style adds more sauce, pickles, grilled onions and mustard fried into the meat.  It was very tasty.  I’ll definitely be going back.  And I thought their fries were really good too.  Another great feature of In-N-Out is that they have really goo...

The Texas Rangers announce plans for an $11.5 million ballpark entertainment renovation.  Yes we are still mourning the loss of the World Series that was firmly in our grasp with only one strike to go…but honestly I still can’t get myself to talk about it.  So let’s move on for now.  Today the Rangers announced the plans to renovate the centerfield portion of the ballpark that previously was the location of Vandergriff Plaza.  They have already torn all that apart and the ball is rolling. The renovation, which is scheduled to be completed by opening day next year, will include additions including a 6250 square foot Batters Eye Club.  This is an air conditioned area to sit and watch a Rangers game when it’s 106 degrees!  Also, there will be a 9152 square foot Rangers themed restaurant ...

The Rangers need 1 more victory to clinch their first ever World Series Championship!  Tonight (weather permitting) the Texas Rangers will attempt to clinch their first ever World Series Championship!  Starting with the World Series appearance last season, this is something here in Arlington, TX that really caught all us Ranger fans by surprise.  Basically we either stunk or we were always almost good enough but couldn’t quite get over the hump. But an American League Championship last year and now being only 1 game away from a World Series Championship this year, there is a certain confidence with our baseball team in this city and metroplex.  Now nobody is counting our chickens before they hatch of course.  Here in DFW we learned a valuable lesson from the Dallas Mavericks in 2006...

Out-n-About in Cowtown | Northeast Tarrant County | Arlington, Texas | Rangers BallPark in Arlington | 2011 World Series I just wanted to give a quick shout out to “Your Texas Rangers” this weekend as they prepare to take on the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3, 4, 5 of the 2011 World Series at Rangers BallPark in Arlington, Texas. I have been a life-long fan of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club dating back to the 70’s when they first moved to North Texas and Northeast Tarrant county when my father took me and my little brother to Ranger’s games every summer.  I still remember my mother packing lunches for us to take to the game.  Ah, those were the days, no bringing your own lunch to today’s sports venues.  It’s us against the in-laws, because my wife (pictured above, middle of pic, smiling...

This is a new feeling in the Dallas/Fort Worth  Metroplex and of course Arlington, Texas to have back to back World Series. Last year the Texas Rangers played the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. This year the Texas Rangers play the Saint Louis Cardinals. The Texas Rangers came alive last year when the new owners took over. Of course, Nolan Ryan is a class act and with him as principal owner, President and CEO of the Texas Ranger you know the Texas Rangers will continue to be a great team. I think 2011 is the Year of the Rangers. Looking forward to a sweep by the Ranger! GO RANGERS!

I don’t have much of anything too terribly interesting to mention in tonight’s blog post.  My wife just took a great picture of my sweet little girl and I thought I would share it with the world because I’m so proud of her and she’s so very cute!  She can’t wait for the cold weather so she can wear her new winter hat.       Oh, and GO RANGERS!

As I watched Nelson Cruz and my Texas Rangers take game two of the ALCS tonight from the Tigers, I couldn’t help but get a bit emotional.  Especially winning in such “grand” fashion. (pun intended)  I’ve stuck with this team for as far back as I can remember…age 5 is about my earliest Ranger memory.  Before last season I almost accepted the fact that they would always be a middle of the pack team or at best a team that is almost good enough to maybe win the West.  So with that being the case, after going to the World Series last year, I was basically satisfied for life! As a kid I couldn’t imagine MY team making it to the World Series.  So on top of them making it there, I was able to attend the Rangers one and only World Series game victory!  And yes, I made it on TV when Mitch Morelan...

It’s been a year now since flooding from Tropical Storm Hermine caused major damage to dozens of homes in Arlington, TX.  This doesn’t even include an entire condominium complex which was probably the worst hit and determined to be totaled.       Many of the homeowners whose homes were badly damaged in the floods actually decided rebuild and stay where they were, and they did so.  Unfortunately, they city of Arlington later decided to buy out many of these homes near Rush Creek and knock them down.  I say unfortunately because they did this AFTER many homeowners went through the work, stress, and expense of rebuilding.  And yes, many did have flood insurance, but they were still out money of their own in so many cases.       So over the last few months I have noticed that homes are sl...

Levitt Pavilion in Arlington, TX was opened in 2008.  This venue which hosts numerous free concerts every year is located in the heart of downtown Arlington.  The pavilion is a great place for music, dance, and performing arts right here in our city.  Noted performers such as BJ Thomas, Three Dog Night, Asleep at the Wheel, and Charlie Daniels Band have performed at this still new venue.       Whether you are a resident of Arlington or the area, or are visiting and can check out a show at the Levitt Pavilion, I highly recommend it.  Here are a few of the shows coming up this week.       Thursday Sept 15, band “Eleven Hundred Springs”   Friday Sept 16, band “Burning Hotels”   Saturday Sept 17, bands “Velvet Love Box” and “Spoonfed Tribe”       For more information you can check out www...

So today marked the 70th day this year that Dallas/Fort Worth reached or exceeded the 100 degree mark.  This is a new record for our area, breaking the previous record of 69 days in the scorching summer of 1980.  We didn’t quite break the record for consecutive days of 100+ degree day, missing that by 2 days.  And of course Texas broke the record for having the highest average temperature in the history of the world with 86.8 degrees…ok, maybe not the history of the world.  The previous record was Oklahoma in the summer of 1934 with an average temp of 85.2.       I’ll tell you, after it being 107 today and it just boiling hot all summer long, I’m so over it.  I typically hear people complaining about the heat and I think, oh come on, it’s hot but it’s always hot so get over it.  Well, t...

So you’re in Arlington, TX because you’re visiting or even you live here or nearby, and you need a good place to eat.  You don’t really feel like one of the chain restaurants like Chili’s, Applebee’s or On the Border.  You don’t really feel like the hole in the wall joint.  You want a nice place with a nice atmosphere but not stuffy and fancy.  I got the place for you!  Olenjack’s Grille is exactly what you are looking for.  To start off with, it’s a really nice place.  When I eat somewhere I really like clean and well put together places.  Olenjack’s is located in Lincoln Square in north Arlington, near Cowboys Stadium, Rangers Ballpark and Six Flags.  That’s where all the action is! The prices are great for the food you are getting.  Like I said, this isn’t a chain restaurant.  These ...

The Dallas/Fort Worth Area home to many of the countries best known corporate headquarters. In fact, the area is has the largest corporate headquarter concentration in the U.S.  Here is a list of some of the most well known corporations that make their home in DFW. Penney Texas Instruments Southwest Airlines GameStop Dr. Pepper/Snapple Atmos Energy Radio Shack Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad Alcon Frito-Lay Chili's Pier 1 Imports FedEx This is just a few of the bigger names.  DFW is actually home to over 10,000 corporate headquarters.  There are many reason why this is important to our area including the obvious...jobs, jobs, jobs.  Also, all of DFW benefits from the presence of these companies by way of their contri...

In 2004 my wife and I were faced with the oh so important task of finding child care for our first child who was then 3 months old.  Ideally we would just live on one income and somebody stays home with the baby, but it just wasn’t realistic.  Well, we went through an extensive interview process with numerous day care centers in Arlington.  We spoke to all the usual suspects, the big names in day care.  It was a little after the fact that through a referral from a friend that we checked out the Child Development Center (CDC) at First Baptist Church of Arlington.  It didn’t matter that we didn’t attend the church and were not members.  After setting up an appointment to going in to interview them, we were blown away.  Yes!  That is what we had been waiting for!  We finally felt complet...

If you live in the area, or are visiting Arlington or the DFW area, and need a really good course to play a round of golf, give Tierra Verde a try.       Tierra Verde is a very natural course.  It was built in a heavily treed area where the terrain really varies.  The architect clearly incorporated the natural terrain into the course without messing with it too much.  And when I say natural, I really mean nature.  You may see anything from coyotes to bobcats run across the fairway in front of you.  It’s a really good place to enjoy nature while either enjoying or struggling through (as I do) a round of golf.       The course has 5 sets of tees so it suits everyone from the shortest hitter to the bombers out there.  They have a really good driving range with plenty of distance labeled ...

Well the Cowboys preseason is finally over and it’s time to get to the real football.  The preseason is always so painful because you know the games have nothing to do with how the team will actually perform in the regular season.  But as I mentioned, it’s over now and we’re moving on to the real season.       I’ve been a Cowboys fan for my whole life being that I grew up in DFW.  But now that the team is here in my hometown of Arlington, my passion for the team has been compounded that much more.  I love going to the new stadium for anything really, but a Cowboy game is the pinnacle of all events.  There is so much going on and of course the stadium itself is just amazing.       Let me say this… please don’t judge us on the botched Super Bowl attempt earlier this year.  That winter w...
