McKinney, TX Spotlight on Yogolution - the newest place in town to get a sweet, healthy and COLD treat! Oh, how I love being the first to find a new hot spot in town. And I really think I'm really on to something here. Like I'm Indiana Jones and I've just discovered a rare hidden jewel... What is it? YOGOLUTION! Located just South of the McKinney/Allen border on Hwy 121, tucked into the new shopping strip that faces Lifetime Fitness, Yogolution's modern sign subtley calls out, "Try Me". And so I did. My husband and 22 month old son, Gavin, made our way over to the new spot right after a butt-kicking of a Spin class at Lifetime Fitness. And what better way to replenish the 600 calories we just burned? A frozen, sweet treat! And while they didn't have the exact calorie and nutritional con...

I have been showing a lot of homes to buyers the past couple of weeks in the Allen area.  My buyers who were looking for a newer home (newer meaning the home was built in 2000 or newer) and under $175,000.  My buyers were competing against multiple offers 75% of the homes my buyers looked at either went under contract the day we looked at them or there were multiple offers on the homes when we submitted our offer.  Allen has become a really strong market right now under $175,000.  The first time home buyer tax credit along with the strong schools in Allen have really helped the area out.   I listed a home in the Morningside subdivision and we got the home under contract in just 6 days! So, if you are thinking of selling your home in the Allen area OR if you are wanting to purchase a hom...

It's hard to believe that we're almost to the Fourth of July. Where oh where has the year gone? On June 27thAllen will be one the first local city to celebrate our Nation's Birthday with it's all day spectacular Allen USA event. The festivities begin at noon on Saturday the 27th at Celebration Park, Allen's 106 acre community park. Since 1995 when Allen first started their largest event it's only grown larger and larger with an estimated 65,000 people attending the lively, fun event. The best part of Allen USa, besides all the attractions, entertainment and the grand fireworks show, is that admission and parking are FREE! In our current economy, what's better than being able to enjoy an event like this for FREE?  With the expected crowds the City highly recommends using the free shuttle...

Wow, it's spring time in Allen. The weather is getting warmer, last weekend not withstanding. The trees and lawns are turning green, however mine are still mostly weeds (I'm working on it)! And then the realization hit me. Schools out in a little over two months. A quarter of the year is already gone! In two months time I'll have a high school graduate (one who finally got a job, thanks Bill from Saxby's Coffee) and a Junior at Allen High. Good Gravy I'm getting old. I don't have to worry about summertime avtivities to keep my kids busy but many of you do. I'd like to make a suggestion to investigate all the wonderful programs that the City of Allen Parks and Recreation department makes available to our community. Starting with the annual Eggcellent Family Adventure this coming Saturday...

I couldn't be more excited to announce that my home church, Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church, is hosting an Avalon concert on February 22. They will also be with us in worship that morning! This is just one reason I am proud to call CCBC my home church. Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church is located just across McKinney/Allen city lines on 121 in Allen, TX. What first drew me to CCBC was the incredible children's ministry. My son, then 18 months, enjoyed attending church and preschool there. We joined in 2003, and 6 years plus another little boy later, we are still calling CCBC our home. If you have been searching for a Collin County church to call home, then I would encourage you to attend a service and see if Pastor John Mark Caton speaks to you like he does me.

While viewing the City of Allen Website we came across a news release that named Allen as one of the safest cities in the nation. Allen ranked number 9 out of 385 communites in a study release by CQPress, Congressional Quarterly, that used FBI statistics for the 2007 calendar year. To view the entire list visit: http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/CityCrime2008_Rank.pdf Besides terrific schools, a vibrant economy, and terrific housing values, a dedicated police force promotes a quality of life in Allen that is very desirable when you're thinking of moving to a new community. Our hats off to the fine professionals in the Allen Police Department. Thanks for keeping us safe.

Well, here it is the end of another year. And what a year it's been! We've seen the highest gas prices ever and then a drastic plunge to 2003 levels as we cut back on our wasteful use of resources. Our Allen Eagles football team traveled to Houston December 20th and rallied past Fort Bend Hightower to capture the Texas 5A Division 1 state championship. We've seen the economy come to a complete halt in many areas of the counrty yet here in Dallas/Ft. Worth at a recent business summit, 11 of the areas top business leaders expressed that our area is still probably the best area of the country to weather the continuing economic storm. Our local housing industry, while not as strong as in years past, has not seen the type of freefalling property vaules as some other parts of the country. The...

Tips for finding a job in Tough markets: Finding a job during tough economic times doesn't have to be tough...if you know which strategies work. Here are some tips for beating the odds: Take Networking to the Next Level: Networking is always a great job strategy, but in the current economic climate, you need to go a step beyond letting your contacts know you are looking for a job, since many other people may be doing the same thing. Instead, develop a compelling business idea for your field or the field you would like to enter. Then, when you call or email your contacts, let them know you are researching your idea and would like to meet with industry insiders to discuss its viability. With this strategy, people will see you as someone with something to offer them, rather than as someo...

I had to take my car into the dealership today for various reasons.  It is a three year old Black Cadillac CTS.  Though it has been the love of my life since day one, I cheated.  I was given the latest upgraded model of the same car in a different color.  Let me tell you something, when I turned it on it certainly returned the favor. Since I had a little time on my hands I decided to treat myself to lunch.  Allen, Texas used to be a small farming town.  Things have changed as of late.  There are many new and exciting things going on.  One is the opening of a new shopping center called Waterscreek.  It has everything you would need to spend an afternoon or evening.  There are lofts and condos as well.  The shopping and restaurants are second to none. I love the landscape and sound of the...

I went to one of my favorite restaurants with a close friend.  The service was unusually slow.  When the waitress finally took our order I had sinking feeling she would get it wrong.  (Sometimes you just know).  I made a point to explain it clearly twice.  After an unacceptable period of time a manager came to the table to tell me they didn't have what I ordered.  I was disappointed because I was ‘in the mood' for something particular but I couldn't have it.  Being that I had invested time already I decided to stay and deal with the change.  When the order was delivered to the table it was wrong.  I was getting irritated and made it a point to tell the waitress what was on my mind.  She was apologetic and made things right immediately. Then the check came.  It was a lot less than what I...
