Here are some interesting tidbits from her presentation: Betsy has had some interesting jobs before coming to the Town of Addison.  She served in the Air Force in Biloxi, helping to clean up after Hurricane Camille; worked in the food service industry; at a Petco store; and as an instructor for a special population program in Yuma, Arizona. The Dallas area has many great Independence Day celebrations to choose from.  One of my favorites is Kaboom Town in Addison. A free, night-long celebration of our country’s independence and national pride, Kaboom Town has been rated one of the top places to watch Independence Day fireworks in the USA by the American Pyrotechnics Association, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. The event will feature live music performances, historic airplane flyovers and a fireworks display choreographed to music and a live radio simulcast on 100.3 JACK FM.   Kaboom Town begins Friday July 3 at 5:00pm (what a great way to kick off the holiday weekend) and runs until Midnight at Addison Circle Park.  It is one of my personal favorites and definitely a "don't miss" event!  Whatever your Independence D... 06/28/2009

OK, OK, I admit it!  I'm a Yankee.  And not a big fan of Mexican food.  But......... I've lived in North Texas for 30 years and every once in a while I get dragged to a Mexican restaurant by friends.  Last night was one of those occasions.  And I loved it! Masaryk is a "Modern Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Lounge" at 5004 East Addison Circle, Addison Texas 75001.  The food was fabulous!  (Except the salsa dip for chips, which was a little too hot for my naive taste buds.)  I had the Salmon Masaryk, a pan seared dish smothered with hearts of palm in a buerre blanc sauce, atop pepita pesto mash, with microgreens.  My friend had the Pollo Agave, a pan seared chicken breast with sauza tequila and a chanterelle cream reduction, also with the pepita pesto mash and a garlicky spinach. Addison, Texas has survived these difficult economic times better than most communities.  However, the June foreclosure postings at the Dallas County courthouse show 7 Addison homes on the list. These homes span the following subdivisions: Townhomes of Addison (Townhouse) Brookhaven Townhomes (Condo) Grand Addison (Single Family Residential) Westfield Court (Single Family Residential) Midway Meadows (Single Family Residential) Townhomes of District A (Condo) Towne Lake (Townhouse) In the past, there have never been this many homes on the foreclosure list in any one month period. Let's hope these owners are in the process of working out loan modifications with their lenders and payment plans with their homeowner associations, where applicable. 05/12/2009

Kimberly Lay has been elected to fill the one-year term created due to the untimely passing of Councilmember Dennis Kraft.  Kimberly had been appointed to fill his position until the election. The three councilmembers elected for two-year terms are Blake Clemens, Don Daseke, and Bianca Noble.  Don was appointed to fill the short-term vacancy left when Councilman Todd Meier resigned to run for Mayor. Addison, TX became a safe-haven for some fleeing the destructive winds and rains of hurricanes Ike, Rita and Katrina.  The doors to Loos Field House were opened to those evacuees seeking shelter.  Some families even brought their pets with them. On Sunday, approximately 200 residents of the Midway Meadows subdivision in Addison Texas met at Dome Park for a block party and a good time was had by all! Neighbors Jane and Francesco Secchi, owners of Ferrari's Italian Villa restaurant on Midway Road between Spring Valley and Beltline, graciously provided the food and drink.  The Cover Ups (formerly the Daddy-Os) kept us musically entertained. Addison police, fire, and EMS attended.  The K-9 unit was there and we had a demonstration of our police dog's abilities.  The Mayor and current council members were invited guests.  And our City Manager and neighbor participated. How's this for irony?  When you mail a letter to Addison's Mayor at Town Hall, the address is Dallas TX  75254, not Addison TX  75001!  What???? Addison is relatively small by Dallas standards, about 15,000 residents. There used to be 5 zip codes for Addison ten years ago, but a new post office with state of the art facilities was constructed and most Addison postal customers voted to receive their mail from the new facility with a 75001 zip.  The measure did not pass in 75254, thus the two zip codes for the town. The 75254 zip code encompasses the area south of Beltline Road and east of Addison Road.  And it gets pretty confusing.  Take the addresses of two businesses on the north east corner of Beltline and Addison Roads, right next door to each other. Here are some interesting tidbits from his presentation: Chad has responsibilities for the help desk, PC support, keeping the town's website up and running, the wireless cameras, and the wireless credit card machines at the town's special events (like Taste Addison). Current projects underway include implementing document management (going paperless) and replacing the 35 servers (happens every 6 years and is a $900,000 project).
