Addison Pacesetters (the 50+ group) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Beltline Road and learn about the Town of Addison.  This month, the Addison firefighters from Fire Station #2, C-shift ,spoke to us. Here are some interesting tidbits from their presentation: There are 3 shifts per week (A, B and C) with 13 firefighters on duty per day in both fire stations.  They work every 3rd day for 24 hours, starting and ending at 7:00 am.  When they first come on duty, they get the report from the outgoing shift, check the equipment and buckle down for training.  They are required to have 20 hours/month of fire specific training.  Since almost all Addison firefighters are also Emergency Medical Specialists, too, they must also complete 80 hours per year of conti... 09/10/2009

Addison's 2009 Oktoberfest It's Oktoberfest time again in Addison!  The 2009 festivities (the 22nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Addison) kick off on Thursday, September 17 and run through Sunday, September 20.  There's lots to do and see this year.   Thursday, September 19th: Polka-thon!  German spelling bee. Largest "Chicken Dance" in Texas. Friday, September 20th: The official "tapping of the keg" is Friday at 7:00 p.m.  Addison Mayor Joe Chow will tap the first keg of Paulaner from Germany, hopefully without spilling any bier.  Maxwell had a silver hammer, but the Mayor will use a wooden mallet to hammer the bronze spout into the keg. Village on the Parkway - Free Outdoor Concerts Village on the Parkway (also known as Sakowitz Village to us old-timers) will host a series of free concerts on the newly built Village Main Stage.  The September series called "Rock the Village" kicks off Thursday, September 10 with Voodoo Blue, a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band playing from 6 to 8 p.m.  The 8tracks rewinding '70s rock'n roll will perform on September 17, and Suburban Legend, a classic rock band, takes the stage September 24. Coffee in Addison Texas is worth checking out.  They start with great beans, then roast them in small drum roasters. When you walk in the door, the aroma of the roasted beans wafts over to greet you. Dinner AND a Movie at Addison's Studio Movie Grill.  If you can't decide between dinner and a movie, how about both at the same time?  That's the concept behind the Studio Movie Grill.    Owner Brian Schultz borrowed the idea after attending a movie in Maryland at the Bethesda Draft House.  He brought the concept to Dallas in 1993 and took over the historic Granada Theater, then opened the Addison location five years later. The Addison Airport in Addison, Texas is home to one of the busiest single-runway general aviation airports in the region and is now the third largest general aviation airport in the country. With a runway of 7,200 feet and 750+ based aircraft, the airport averages 366 operations per day. There is also considerable commerical activity, including several hangar/office complexes.  The airport is also home to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.
