Addison's Nara Pizza & Oven Now Open Looking for a great lunch deal in Addison, Texas?  Try Nara Pizza & Oven, 3716 Belt Line Road (east of Marsh Lane).  They have a lunch special: a slice and a drink for $3 or 2 slices and a drink for $5. Besides pizza (thin crust), they have salads, sandwiches, calzones and stromboli.  If you don't like their soft drink selection, then BYOB. Shakespeare in the Park: Addison Circle Park Julius Casear will be performed by the Dallas Shakespeare in the Park cast on October 7-11 & October 14-18 in Addison Circle Park, Addison TX.  General admission is $10, and $7 for students and seniors.  Showtime is 8:00 pm.  On Saturday, October 10th, Target is sponsoring a free pre-show, with activities that include teaching artists, master classes and period costume photos.  The pre-show begins at 6:00 pm. Addison: The Windy City? Picture a water tower.  A 195-foot tall water tower.  Now, picture this water tower with wind turbines on the top.  You are imagining the vision of Addison's next water tower, expected to be built in 2010, at the intersection of Arapaho Road and Surveyor Boulevard (at the west end of the Arapaho Road Bridge). This water tower will be among the first in the nation to be powered by wind turbines.  The plan is for 10 eight-foot-tall wind turbines, enough to supply power to run the tower and the street lights on Arapaho Road. There will be a community classroom in the pedestal base, where wind energy and water distribution lessons can be presented to area school children. Addison Semi-Annual Garage Sale: October 3, 2009 It's time for my favorite Addison event: the community garage sale! Under the big tent in the Sam's Club parking lot is where you will find hundreds of shoppers making purchases and finding bargains from dozens of Addison residents selling their unwanted items.  Although the event officially opens at 8:00 am to the public, savvy shoppers arrive at dawn when the locals set up and unload their boxes and trunks.  Addison, Texas residents can also recycle old computers and peripheral devices in the parking lot.  Hard drives will be sanitized accoring to the standards of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Addison Jogging Trail Dedication: You Are Invited! On Tuesday, October 13, rescheduled for October 20, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., the Town of Addison will dedicate the Les Lacs/Midway Meadows jogging trail in honor of former Mayor Jerry Redding.  Jerry Redding was Mayor of Addison from 1975 to 1988 and was a visionary leader who guided the development of Addison in its early years as a city.  His passions were customer service, community beautification, and attention to detail.  Mayor Redding instilled those goals in the entire Addison organization, and they are still known as "the Addison Way."  A plaque honoring Mayor Redding will be installed at the bend in the jogging trail, and smaller markers will be placed at all entrances to the Trail.  The ceremony dedicating the plaque will be open to... 09/22/2009

Addison Pacesetters (the 50+ group) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Beltline Road and learn about the Town of Addison.  This month, the Addison firefighters from Fire Station #2, C-shift ,spoke to us. Here are some interesting tidbits from their presentation: There are 3 shifts per week (A, B and C) with 13 firefighters on duty per day in both fire stations.  They work every 3rd day for 24 hours, starting and ending at 7:00 am.  When they first come on duty, they get the report from the outgoing shift, check the equipment and buckle down for training.  They are required to have 20 hours/month of fire specific training.  Since almost all Addison firefighters are also Emergency Medical Specialists, too, they must also complete 80 hours per year of conti... 09/10/2009

Addison's 2009 Oktoberfest It's Oktoberfest time again in Addison!  The 2009 festivities (the 22nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Addison) kick off on Thursday, September 17 and run through Sunday, September 20.  There's lots to do and see this year.   Thursday, September 19th: Polka-thon!  German spelling bee. Largest "Chicken Dance" in Texas. Village on the Parkway - Free Outdoor Concerts Village on the Parkway (also known as Sakowitz Village to us old-timers) will host a series of free concerts on the newly built Village Main Stage.  The September series called "Rock the Village" kicks off Thursday, September 10 with Voodoo Blue, a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band playing from 6 to 8 p.m.  The 8tracks rewinding '70s rock'n roll will perform on September 17, and Suburban Legend, a classic rock band, takes the stage September 24.
