Addison Semi-Annual Community Garage Sale: October 5, 2013. It's almost time for my favorite Addison event: the community garage sale! If you're an Addison resident and would like to sell your "stuff" at this event, call 972-450-2884 (and pay the $20 fee). You have to provide proof of residency. Sign up soon, because the event is usually sold out! Under the big tent in the Sam's Club parking lot is where you will find hundreds of shoppers making purchases and finding bargains from dozens of Addison residents selling their unwanted items.  Although the event officially opens at 8:00 am to the public, savvy shoppers arrive at dawn when the locals set up and unload their boxes and trunks.  Addison, Texas residents can also recycle old computers and peripheral devices in the parking lot.  H...

Fall Fly Days is this weekend at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison.  The event coincides with the Pontiac Southern Nationals Car Show.  Attending this event is always nostalgic for me, as my dad was a WWII Navy Pilot.  The Cavanaugh Museum was always on his list of places to visit when he was in Dallas. Dad was stationed in the Pacific and flew TBM Avengers.  I will always remember how excited he was to the the Avenger at the Cavanaugh Museum. Warbird Rides will be available for a fee.  Visitors are also invited to take cockpit tours of some of the aircraft. For Fall Fly Days details and a complete schedule of events contact the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, we had two presentations at the monthly gathering. First up was Carrie Rice and Levi, followed by Neil Gayden from the Health Department. Communications and Marketing Director Carrie Rice introduced the new CodeRED emergency notification system that will replace the Reverse 911 alert system. If you are currently signed up for the Reverse911 system, you will have to re-register for CodeRED.  It is a geo-targeted system that provides the most current, up-to-date weather alerts or other emergency notifications (including West Nile spraying) and more. Be on the lookout in the mail, through social media, and in...

There is a special government Home Renovation Loan Program with Addison TX FHA 203K Loans.  Many are not aware of a special government loan program that is actually a part of FHA (Federal Housing Administration- a department within HUD). A home buyer or existing home owner can remodel or update their home without having a higher cost second lien thanks to this special FHA loan program. "Luxury items" such as a hot tub or a swimming pool are not allowed with this FHA loan program. You can repaint, remodel cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms, replace appliances and flooring, add wallpaper, or even add a room to an existing structure (which will increase the value of your home because of more square footage). The biggest advantage with this government loan program is that instead of having...

Whole Foods Market Opening in Addison, Texas. We had a sneak peek of the new Whole Foods that's opening at the corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Belt Line Road on July 16th, 2013. The town welcomed the grocery by turning out in droves on Friday to tour the layout of the new facility, meet some of the staff, and sample some of the goodies (the pizza was my favorite). It was like a HUGE block party! The first stop of the self-guided tour yielded some juice. There were three flavors to choose from and I had the one that tasted like lettuce. It was pretty good, actually.  The photo to the right is the entrance (and juice station).  People were streaming in.  Not all the products are on the shelves yet, but it looks like the wine department is ready to go and I know where to find the Mo...
