Addison, Texas is a happening place! You might know the town because of it's hundred plus restaurants, or its annual Independence Day celebration on July 3rd: Kaboom Town. But Addison is also known as having the most authentic Oktoberfest celebration outside of Germany.  And it's going on now!This is our Mayor, Bruce Arfsten, tapping the keg to kick off Oktoberfest in Addison Circle Park.Of course there's food and beer, music and games, a dachshund dash, a marketplace, and more! October is national Fire Safety month. In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire raged for 3 days over the period of time between October 8th through the 10th. One theory is that Mrs. O'Leary's cow kicked over a lantern in the barn and that's what started the fire.  It destroyed approximately 3.3 square miles (just slightly larger than the Town of Addison) and killed over 300 people. National Fire Prevention Week (the week starting October 9th) was founded in 1922 by the National Fire Protection Association and the organization later expanded their fire prevention efforts to encompass the whole month of October.Every year in Addison, the fire fighters of the Addison Fire Department will come to your home and replace the batteries in your smoke detectors if you cannot.
