Churches of Christ from the middle Tennessee area just sent a semi truck load of cleaning supplies and other items and food to the West Dyersburg Church of Christ at 820 Highway 51 Bypass. The distribution starts today at 2pm but people have already started showing up for the supplies. Others heard about this effort and they have started bringing by cleaning supplies to be passed out as well. The flood waters have receded and the clean-up has begun. These supplies should help the flood victims start to get their lives back to normal. Here is a video that ABC 24 shot at the church building and broadcast last night.

Today I closed the sale of the home at 993 Sandra Drive. It sold for $115,900 and it is a 3 bedroom 2 bath home with 2 car garage and a fenced in backyard. However, there are two homes left that are available and I would be glad to show you either although I have a preference to the house at 1040 Sir James since I have it listed and just love the home. The Sir James house is also a 3 bedroom 2 bath home with a 2 car garage. Both are listed at $116,900 and either would be a great home for your family. Here is a link to the homes available in Camelot subdivision as of today.   Update: 5/20/11 Only one listed house not under contract, the other went under contract two days ago.

Today in this blog post I am putting my customers and clients on notice. I am not going to take it anymore! The real estate business has changed so much since I first became a Realtor back in 1992. The business has really become fast paced. When a customer calls or texts or e-mails, they expect you to respond right then. I have accepted this challenge and pride myself in quick responses to potential customers inquiries. Another change that I have trouble swallowing is there is no commitment on the part of the customer or client(for the most part). I am still totally committed to my clients but many times they do not reciprocate. Yesterday a client blew in my office while I was out and told my personal assistant that he has decided not to purchase but rent. We have rental property but my...

Yesterday was the National Day of Prayer across our great land of America and about 70 people here in Dyersburg joined for prayer on the 4 corners of the courthouse. I ran into several people whom I knew but did not know they were believers. Now many more of us know each other as Christians. At each corner we had a different theme but the one that struck me the most was "Let us humble ourselves and be reconciled back to God". The scripture that the speaker used before his prayer was 2 Chronicles 7:14 which reads "if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land". I was glad I went and I am sure most of my brothers and sisters here in ...

Well finally the rains stopped(yesterday morning) and the sun is out but all is not well. The Mississippi River is about out of its banks causing the smaller rivers and tributaries running into it to flood. Dyersburg and Dyer County(northwest Tennessee) have two smaller rivers running through or just close by and they are both flooding. The Forked Deer river runs through south Dyersburg and it is out of its banks and starting to flood south Dyersburg and some of the smaller communities to the west of the city. The Obion river runs through north Dyer County between Dyersburg and Ridgely, Tennessee. That river is now out and flooding parts of Miston, Bogota and areas west of Hwy 78. These areas have double trouble because the Mississippi river is also close by. Here is a link to the lo...

On Friday April 29, 2011 my family attended Dyersburg's Christ Classical Academy's spring musical. This christian school is for pre-k through 8th grade. My daughter Erin has been attending this school but this year is her last year(8th grade). We have been very happy with the education she has received and the christian values all the faculty and staff display. I shot a couple of videos with my droid x during the performance and I hope you enjoy. To contact Christ Classical Academy call 731-285-3727 or visit them online at their website.

Dyersburg Tennessee real estate sales are ready to soar with the bad weather behind us. The skies are blue, the flowers are blooming and spring is in the air. Over the last 3 weeks there has been dozens of calls and inquiries about properties but since the bad weather most have not come out to look. My prediction is that will change and people will be very actively looking to buy their next home. There are lots of bargains here in the Dyersburg Real Estate market including a cute 3 bedroom 2 bath home at 1040 Sir James priced at only $116,900. That owner wants to move to Blytheville,Arkansas as quick as we sell his home. I have a team in place to assist you with all your real estate needs so call or text Mike today at 731-589-7841.

Every year, the Tennessee Association of Realtors addresses needed changes in the TAR forms used by Tennessee realtors. One major change this year concerns who orders and pays for the termite inspection. Until Jan 1, 2011 the termite inspection was normally ordered by the listing agent and paid for by the seller. Starting Jan 1, 2011 this changed to being ordered by the buyers agent and paid for by the buyer. The reason for this change was because there was so much fraud involved and many times the buyers get to the closing table with their furniture in the back of their truck and then they find out there is termites and something has to be negotiated to take care of the problem. The intent now is that the termite inspection be done around the same time as the home inspection and any pr...

I am ready to declare our local Dyersburg recession is finally over and the economy is recovering. Over the last several weeks many plants and factories in and close to Dyersburg have been hiring. Everyday there are ads in the paper for employment. Over the last few weeks I have also been mentioning all the job opening in the area on my Dyersburg real estate blog. We still are suffering from quite a few foreclosures but I see these tappering off as more and more people have jobs are are able to pay their mortgages. The Dyersburg recession is finally over and everything is getting back to normal.

I have been encouraging my clients to jump off the fence and purchase a house with low interest rates and home prices at historic lows. Over the last 12 weeks or so interest rates have been steadily climbing and home prices have stabilized here in the Dyersburg Tennessee real estate market. We are seeing an influx of new jobs available in the Dyersburg area and there are new restaurants and stores getting ready to open here in the next 2 months. All of my agents are busy assisting buyers and we have lots of pending home sales within our office. The last thing to recover after every recession is the commercial real estate market. I just purchased a commercial building beside my real estate office. I plan to remodel it and rent it to a hospital or doctor. I am bullish on the Dyersburg mar...

I love to give out good news and I believe this qualifies for that. My wife and I often travel to Destin, Florida and one of her favorite stores is Bealls Outlet. A couple of weeks ago I got a call from some guys wanting to rent a house or apartment for a couple of months They are remodeling the old Goody's dept store in the Dyersburg Mall and the name of the store going in is Burke's Outlet who are owned by the same people who own Beall's Outlets. This is a pretty big deal because for the last few years the mall has had many stores close up and or move out. Here is a link that will help you understand the relationship of the stores and a little about how they do business. I am so excited that they are opening up in Dyersburg and this should translate into new retail jobs for Dyersburg,...

I am not sure who opened up the faucet but it appears that the Dyersburg real estate market is "racing" in this last month of 2010. Some of the activity is buyers trying to close before their great interest rate lock expires. In case you haven't noticed, interest rates have gone up almost a full percentage point in the last month. Also, I believe some signs of life in the economy are making people feel better and I predict the real estate business in Dyersburg will continue to increase in 2011. If you are planning a move to the Dyersburg,Tn area and need a real estate relocation specialist please call or text Mike at 731-589-7841.

Many in the west Tennessee area are saddened by the announcement that Mike Slater(conservative radio talk show host) is leaving WTJS in Jackson,Tennessee and taking a similiar job in San Diego. Let's draft Simon Conway to replace Slater! Mike has been in west Tennessee for the last 4 years and has done a fantastic job leading the conservative charge. His website is mikeslaterradio.com When I heard last week that Mike was leaving I started thinking about who I could and would support to replace Slater. Because of the immense popularity of Mike, I can only think of one guy with the right stuff to replace Mr. Slater and that would be Simon Conway. Simon moved here from the United Kingdom(and became a U.S. citizen) and has led his own conservative charge  in Orlando, Florida. I contacted Si...

For the last 3 months my IDX feed has been down. Before then I had been incorporating my IDX feed in lots of different blogs and posts. People were calling me and saying you are the only one we are finding on the internet over and over and over again. Activerain has taught me so much about burying links in my blog posts(both on Activerain and outside blogs). About 3 months ago my IDX feed disappeared and I called Homes.com and told them. It only took 3 months to get it back. I investigated Word Press and started a blog there and even purchased a plugin(which I have been unable to figure out how to plug it in). I even contacted IDX feed companies(the free ones are not here yet) and have a couple lined up once I pull the trigger. Now, my IDX feed is back and did I ever miss it. I was gett...

I was watching Fox News this morning and they mentioned a new website called BuyVeteran.com. I was intrigued so I went there and signed up and also looked at the 3-4 others from my city who have also signed up. None of the others were veteran owner real estate companies. You can just enter the city and state to find veteran owned businesses. If you are a veteran then get signed up! In case you did know it I was in the Air Force from 1974-1978(buck sergeant) then Uncle Sam paid for my college. I tried to go back in as a commissioned  officer but the only slot they offered me was navigator on a B-52 and I did not want to be away from my new wife(still my new wife 29 yrs later) I plan to buy from veterans if possible. Let me know what you think about this site and about this new idea!

I just got off the phone with a Mennonite wanting to find farm land to purchase in the Dyersburg area. I told her that I flew my family to Mount Joy,Pennsylvania(close to where they live) and we rented a car and toured that area then up through the New England states. There is no group of people who I would prefer as a neighbor that the hard working Mennonites. I believe my family shares many of the core beliefs that the Mennonites hold sacred. Several families could possible relocate here if we can find fertile land that they can farm or raise livestock on. They are wanting to relocate to areas that are predominately agricultural areas and the Dyersburg area certainly is that. In addition to coming here to raise crops or raise livestock, there is certainly the possibility of some famil...

Over the last few days, I have been getting inquiries through the Activerain server about Dyersburg real estate and about jobs available in the Dyersburg Tennessee area. Yesterday I called a headhunter friend of mine and he told me he was swamped with engineering type jobs to fill. I told Jamie I would spread the word and what better place to do so than on the internet and on the Activerain platform. One job he needs to get filled is a quality control engineer. If you have an engineering degree and experience in quality control then please call me and I will give you Jamie's phone number. Also, my friend at Eaton in Newbern is still looking for a few people who don't mind getting dirty and working lots of hours. The Dyersburg real estate market is slowing turning the corner and I believ...

I have a good friend named Guy Hansford who is one heck of an appliance repair "guy".  Yesterday, Guy told me he appreciated all the referrals I have been giving him. I told him I only told one person to call him in the last month. He said he wasn't talking about that referral but all the others that found my post about him online. A few months ago Bob Stewart challenged us to give back to the community by writing posts about businesses that we enjoy doing business with. That is when I did the post and several others(other companies). I had Guy come into the office and tell me all about his business including the brands he works on. When you click on the link up above you can see what I bolded for emphasis(made them key words). The last person that hired Guy found him on the internet un...
