The 55th South Carolina Apple Festival in Westminster, South Carolina begins its festivities on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at 7 p.m. with a pageant being held at West Oak High School. Many events occur over the days and last until Sunday, September 10th. These events include a Rotary Golf Tournament on Tuesday, September 6th. The Chattooga River Float is on Wednesday, September 7th. Many other activities take place such as an apple baking contest, quilt show, classic car show, rodeo, arts & crafts shows and much more. My high school, Westminster High, closed the year I graduated because the community merged two schools and built a new one.  Saturday night we had "The Final Four"  30 year reunion.  Of my class, I was disappointed that only 11 of us attended.  I am not sure why someone would not attend.  Yes, I am aware that you have lost the connection that you had with the members of that group.  I have moved on, as well.  There isn't one member of my graduation class that I see on a monthly basis.  Many of them have moved away but most of them are still local.  For me, it is a great time to reflect because there were a lot of photos from our high school years.  I also caught up with what my classmates are doing these days.  It was an opportunity for me to "brag" about my children.  (I took photos, o... 08/01/2011

History is going to come alive in Westminster South Carolina! July 16 - 18, 2010 Westminster SC Last year there were over 1200 spectacors for this great event! You can watch as the Reneactors set up camp, dress, cook and live like just as it was done in the 1860’s. Today, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and Oconee County announced that U.S. Engine Valve Company will expand its operations in Oconee County. The company expects to invest $18 million over the next five years and create 10 new jobs. Westminster is in Oconee County in Upstate South Carolina sitting at the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. It was started mostly as a train depot along the railroad. Then as stores, shops and factories started to set up along the train stop, it bloomed into a decent-sized town. The population was 2,743 at the 2000 census and in 2007 was 2,668. 49th Annual Apple Festival   It is time again for Westminster to celebrate the apple harvest with the 49th Annual South Carolina Apple Festival. It has already started but a lot of events will happen this weekend on Sept 11th & 12th. Carnival and fair rides will be set up in the heart of downtown Westminster. Tomorrow there will be the Apple Baking Contest at Westminster Baptist Church. Entries will be accepted from 9-10Am and the judging begins at 11AM. Then tomorrow night, there will be Music on Main from 6-8PM at the Apple Festival Pavilion on Main Street. Friday will be a big day with the Arts & Crafts Show going on from 11Am to 7PM, Kiddie Rides, & vendors on Old Main Street. At 1PM the Rotary Luncheon will take place at Westminster Baptist Church. I read this article today and almost fell out of my seat. It seems that the Oconee County Council this week approved entering into a partnership agreement with Westminster that will see a disc golf course build on about 18 acres adjacent to Chau Ram Park. The new park would be the county’s third with the others being in Seneca and Walhalla. The Walhalla course even hosted the South Carolina State Junior Disc Golf Championship earlier in this year. If you have never played disc golf, it is similar in concept to the normal golf but instead of a hole in the ground you are aiming for a basket suspended around a pole.
