5 years ago you couldn't convince me that Traveler's Rest SC was cool. In fact, even 3 years ago, TR (as it's affectionately known by locals) wasn't a place anyone would go...unless you were visiting my grandma who seemed to be the only person who lived there. Three years ago, when passers through came barreling off the highway on the way to Asheville they might not even have known they where a stone's throw from a dying main street: and those who did notice, saw only a few store fronts and many, many deserted businesses. As I watched my daughter graduated with her class Tuesday I sat in all as to how fast the years have flown.  i watched as she learned to crawl and walk and ride a new bike.  I watch in great pride through all the color guard and flag routines.  Now I watch her finish one milestone and head straight into a new world of her own. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is almost complete!! What the heck is that? Every once in a while you'll tool through a small town in the south that really looks like it's sprouting new shoots and ready to bloom. After living in Travelers Rest, SC just north of Greenville for nearly 6 years..that is exactly what is happening.  The economy has been slow but the businesses are coming. The locals are slow to change but realize that the change is coming too. When you get on your bike in TR (as we call it) and know that you can travel miles, unbothered by traffic and surrounded by woods, lovely Furman University and the growing burb of Travelers Rest!  To grow you must do it correctly the city of Travelers Rest has been hard at work this winter and the changes are awesome.  The walking trail is beautiful.  They have created with a lot of thought and plans a safe and beautiful place to park and walk and work.  Downtown has been revived with a new design.  The downtown area has taken on a park like setting.  There are opportunities to get involved with store front buildings, which are zoned multi-use.  You can have apartments over the shops! New restaurants and shops are popping up along the main street area.  Main Street is designed for a slower pace where you can park and walk and enjoy the area. Just when I thought everything was calming down, kids back to school and the quietness of fall was setting in my family was hit by a serious unexpected accident , this time my husband Rick!.  He fell on  steps going to take the dog out.  Someone had spilled something on the steps at a earlier picnic.  I heard him yelling and hear the dog barking and went to find out what the commotion was.  Rick had fell and really injured is ankle and knee.  i had to call my son Matt to help him get him in the house, and later to the ER.  Two ex-rays later and 2 Doctors later we found from a excellent Dr. Rick broke cartilage loose in his knee, so he had surgery to repair, and in 24 hours later was admitted for bleeding under the knee cap, his leg swelled twice it's size.
