North Charleston, SC Real Estate News

By Michael Johnson, Metro Charleston SC
(Carolina One Real Estate)
North Charleston SC is a suburb of Charleston SC and makes up a large portion of the Charleston Metropolitan.  North Charleston is home to many of the area's business and industries.  Perhaps the most noticable of these are the Charleston Air Force Base, Bosch, & Trident Hospital & Health Systems.  Many people call North Charleston home because in most areas it is considerable more inexpensive than in other neighboring towns.  As you can see in the graph below, most homes sell for 200K and below.  There has been a considerable difference in real estate sales from 2007 to 2008.  For buyers this is good news as you will most likely get more for you money than if you decided to buy last year.  Note that this will not last.  Real Estate always rebounds.  Now is the time to buy!  Free Home S...

Recently I began highlighting some of the newer sustainable communities cropping up in the Charleston, SC area. To fully appreciate how this new wave of re-development actually came to pass one has to go back to when the powerful seeds of change were planted. So in this post I’d like to pay homage to the grand daddy of them all Noisette. What is Noisette you ask?In a unique public-private partnership, The Noisette Company and the City of North Charleston teamed up in the late 1990s to develop a sustainable community, called Noisette, named for Philippe Noisette, an 18th century botanist who came to the Carolinas in 1764. The Noisette Project, a billion-dollar, 3,000-acre sustainable redevelopment plan is one of the largest urban reclamation projects under way in the United States. In exc...

People who know me well like Josh and Helen of Fuzzco (CYH’s fearless and extremely creative agency) can attest that I can’t stand the fact that the Real Estate world seems hell bent on preaching the importance of displaying one’s mug shot anywhere and everywhere. As a protest Fuzzco and I even came up with the now infamous “Don’t Judge a Realtor by their Picture” campaign, which was officially banned by the omnipresent Post and Courier, but I’ll save that story for another Blog!So it must have come as a complete shock to J&H to hear me say “can you guys take some photos of Carolyn and I for a new campaign?” Yeah I even shocked myself! After graciously accepting the challenge, the four of us took off for Riverfront Park, which is located in The Navy Yard at Noisette. I am a little asham...

In an era of growing social and environmental responsibility, sustainable business practices are a growing trend. Sustainability can be defined as the ability to meet the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations. A major redevelopment effort is taking place in North Charleston, SC. From Remount Road to the Neck area near old Baker Hospital, North Charleston is reinventing itself in a series of massive redevelopment projects. One such development is the Mixson Avenue project in the Park Circle area, which is being developed by the award winning I’On Group.I recently had the pleasure of hearing Vince Graham founder of the I’On Group speak at an AMA (American Marketing Association) meeting in Mount Pleasant, SC. Vince is a passionate advocate for advancing human-scaled urbanism and Mixson is a prime example of that.Mixson is roughly 43 acres and is bordered by the neighborhoods of Liberty Hill, Palmetto Gardens, and Olde North Charleston. The Mixson Neighborhood is currently in the planning and en...
