Johns Island, SC - New listings for 2/23/09-3/1/09 For last week, there were 10 new listings on Johns Island, South Carolina. Of the 10 new listings for the week, 5 are condos in the Whitney Lake neighborhood. Whitney Lake is a planned community with 2 and 3 bedroom townhome style properties. There is a community pool area that is supposed to be built this summer. Right now the developer is offering great incentives including free upgrades and paid closing costs. Another one of the new listings is a house in the Villages at St. Johns Woods. There has been a solid amount of activity in the neighborhood and one of my listings sold just a few weeks back. The Villages is a beautiful collection of traditional Lowcountry homes with large porches along with a side walks and a fantastic communi...

We love Johns Island for many reasons, but here are just a few that we wanted to share. We both grew up just minutes apart from one another on the island and met by chance. Our love for the island brought us back home where we built a home and decided to raise our little family. Johns Island is a quaint little community (second largest barrier island on the east coast) that is rich in history and rich in culture. The pride of the island is the Angel Oak Tree. The southern live oak is estimated to be more than 1500 years old and is considered to be the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi. It is 65 ft high (over 6 stories), 25.5 ft in circumference and offers more than 17,000 sqft of shade. The largest limb measures more than 89 ft long. The Angel Oak Tree is a must see. Johns Isl...

According to today's Post & Courier, an "informal" meeting was held by our elected officials (which whom I will name) Wednesday behind closed doors to discuss a possible new road across Johns Island. All those who attended the meeting do not live on Johns Island and I feel that they do not have the best interest at heart for the rural island. The meeting was called by Mayor Joe Riley (I have and will never vote for him) and included the mayors of Rockville, Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island, 2 Charleston Council members and other community representatives. Most residents, including Maria and myself, are upset that we were not made aware of this meeting. By law an "informal" meeting is not required to be brought to the publics attention. Which means there are a lot of "informal" meetings...

Times are tough in the real estate industry, and many agents - novice and veteran alike - are leaving the profession and returning to previous careers.  I must confess, that like many other agents, I've recently considered returning to a career that utilizes the skills I learned earlier in life.  These thoughts were never more poignantly felt than when a fellow agent shared this job posting with us:  Thanks, Diana Thomas!   Sidi - I'd like to apply for the job.  Here are my qualifications: I was picking beans back on the family farm in Kentucky by the time I was old enough to walk! BEAN plants are the ones with beans; everything else is a weed, or maybe a cornstalk. Not only can I pick beans, I can pick BEAN-BUGS!  Once or twice a week, I used to have to walk the bean rows and pick the ...

Rushland Plantation is located on the Stono River in John’s Island, SC. This 500-acre neighborhood is a relatively small neighborhood with only 123 home sites to insure natural conservation of the marsh and the animals in it. Using this extra space, the developer has created wildlife habitats within Rushland Plantation for several Low Country species. As a result, residents can enjoy nature trails, freshwater lagoons, and daily exposure to a variety of birds and other animals. This neighborhood features only single family homes, which are priced from about $700,000 to $1,700,000. Rushland Plantation is one of the high end neighborhoods of John’s Island, so homes cost approximately $307 per square foot. Buyers will find a great selection of Johns Island real estate here! According to the National Association of Realtors, 12 percent of all existing home sales last year were not primary residences but vacation homes. Inspite of the gloomy housing forecast, second homes sales are still up.  While large numbers of houses are going into foreclosure, another group is not just affording payment on their primary residence but they are also buying second homes.  Properties near the beach, in the mountains, near a resort are very popular.  For buyers who want warmer temperature, they usually head south to Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.  For those who love skiing, they are looking up to the ski country.  With the heavy snowfall few weeks ago, housing market in the ski areas of Vermont had a surge in sales.  If this trend of second...
