I don't know about you, but I had many people who "wanted to see how the election turned out" before making a decision to buy.  You know as well as me that 9 times out of 10, they are still going to buy a home, no matter what happened at the polls.  Therefore, it's now time for them to get moving again. It's always interesting to me to observe the reactions from different people whenever you invite opinions related to a decision you are making which involves risk. I just bought an investment property with the intention of flipping it. Considering today's real estate market, you can bet that I contemplated and calculated the risks associated to this particular investment. As I began to receive opinions from friends and family about this particular investment it became apparent how those who are typically risk-averse were professing that doom and gloom were just around the corner, while the risk-takers were applauding my decision and cheering me on. My brother in Michigan is going through an ugly divorce. At one point his own attorney was telling him to stop making payments on his home and to file for bankruptcy. I'm no attorney, but this just stunk like a skunk to me! I stepped in and firmly told my brother not to even consider such drastic measures without first exercising more reasonable, less drastic measures. I told my brother to wake up and smell the reality of the South Eastern Michigan real estate market. An overwhelming majority of the home sales that occur there are actually short sales. A short sale is not as bad as foreclosure or bankruptcy as far as his credit report and his ability to recover from this mess. The other night we attended a going away party for our friend and neighbor, Joe, who is heading off for a tour of duty in Iraq. He will be heading up a group that is responsible for the safe movement and transfer of high profile / highly valuable "VIP targets" that the enemy would love to kill or capture. All I can say is that Joe is making an incredible sacrifice as he is leaving his wife and children behind for many months while he serves his country. His sacrifice makes my problems seem small. Tonight one of our neighbors played another movie on his large outdoor screen in the common area behind his home. A bunch of us gathered with our kids, all dressed up to stay warm and enjoyed the free local event put together by the generosity of one of our neighbors. We watched Ghostbusters with Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. It's a decent movie and I couldn't believe so many years have passed by since I saw it when I was younger. However, my young boys were not supposed to have seen and heard a few of the things in the movie that were not exactly age appropriate. I guess it was funny when I was younger, but as a parent I was wishing a few of the scenes and/or comments were edited out. A rare sight appeared in Greenville South Carolina's skies today.  A large four-engine Douglas C-54E Skymaster cargo aircraft flew over the Greenville area, during a two day stay here in the Upstate.  The Skymaster, dubbed "The Spirit of Freedom", is a flying museum, dedicated to the Berlin Airlift.  The Berlin Airlift occurred between 1948-1949.  During that time, the Russians had cut off Berlin from the rest of Allied controlled West Germany.  It's an amazing point in history to study, and I recommend you do so.  The world was on the point of World War Three. I feel that I have wasted nearly half a day today.  Oh, sure, I did some work activities... One of my favorite bands, the Trans Siberian Orchestra, will be coming back to Greenville South Carolina on their 2008/2009 Winter Tour!  They will be performing at the Bilo Center on Sunday, November 23, at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm.  I have been thrilled by the TSO's musical masterpieces for years, ever since accidentally turning on some sort of weird Christmas special on TV one night.  Their Christmas music features meaningful lyrics combined with amazing orchestral compositions. My favorite TSO album by far is Beethoven's Last Night.  The album is a rock-opera, created around the thought that Beethoven was writing a 10th symphony when he passed away.  Beethoven is forced to make a difficult choice when faced with the fact that he is to die.  Listen to it - you'll love it!
