Just a note of interest that I wanted to share. If you get a chance over the next couple of days try to get out to Clemson to see "The Wall That Heals". It is a half sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and will be on display from now until Monday morning. Remember those who are fighting for freedom and for those who have done so in the past. It's an appropriate way to finish this Veterans Day week. Thanks to all who honor us by serving our country!

In light of more companies wanting/asking for money from the government (aka. our money) I thought I would repost a blog I wrote on 10/16/08. We have airlines, car manufacuters, banks, other financial institutions, farmer, schools and others who continue to be subsidized by the government. When will it stop? ***This statement came from an article on cnn.com: "Mike Larson, an analyst with Weiss Research who participates in Bankrate.com's weekly mortgage rate surveys, expects to see rates top 7% in the next six months, and then turn back down. That's quite a bit higher than rates have been, but it's no disaster. Gumbinger blames the rate increase on the massive federal bailout. To fund the rescue and the new government guarantees, Treasury must sell a raft of new Treasury bills to raise m...

This information has been provided by DAVE EDWARDS and is deemed accurate as of 11/10/08.  In the month of October 2008 there were 507 units sold at an average sold price of $182,048 with an average days on market (DOM) of 94. For October 2007 there were 782 units sold at an average price of $193,590 with an average DOM of 88. The volume of units sold has decreased by 35.2% and the DOM has increased by 6 days when compared to the same month last year. However, the Greenville market is still going strong and there is high demand for homes below the $200,000 price point. The inventory in the $0 to $200,000 range is between 6-7 months. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) this would be considered a balanced market for this price range. Who do you know that needs to buy o...

I received an email with several pictures in it as a tribute to Veteran's Day from a friend of mine, Bill Lambright.  I was touched, and wanted to pass them on.  I feel extremely grateful to the men and women of the U.S. Military, who fought for our freedom, paid with their blood, and continue to fight to this day.  Without their sacrifices, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we have today.  Veterans are often the most overlooked heroes in our country, and they should be the first.  I consider my father, Andrew T. Kennedy Jr, a hero.  He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater.  I have been blessed to be guided by his hand. Bill, thank you for the pictures, and thank you for your service in the US Navy. Around the world - Lest we forget Novemb...

On a recent trip to northern Greenville County, Upstate South Carolina I traveled along Scenic Highway 11 and was mystified by the beauty of the leaves brilliant with change and the crisp fall air. I have lived in Upstate SC all my life and still stand in awe at the change of season and the beautiful landscape.     I worked for years with a Large Corporation and we have four of the past CEO's that have made Greenville SC their home. When I asked them why they didn't transition to another area as most in their position do? Their responses were all the same.  They grew to love the Upstate and all that it had to offer. They all concluded that Greenville's cultural experiences, the great climate and the stunning downtown with views of the mountains made their choice easy.    I want to s...

Well I just watched my odometer on my Active Rain account trip over 150,000 points. I guess that is a good thing. Although, the new clients I gained this past week never once asked me how many Active Rain points I had. They were more interested in getting to know me and feeling comfortable with me. They want to know I've got integrity and that they can trust me to do what is best for them. Meanwhile, I have enjoyed the journey with all of my Active Rain colleagues and I look forward to continued success for all of us!

My brother was visiting me this past week as he took his vacation time and got out of Michigan to enjoy North and South Carolina. He's a huge fan of motorcycles and he owns a Honda VTX 1800. On Friday he wanted to check out every shop in town that sold motorcycles so I granted his wish and took him around town to check out every make and model of two-wheelers. We hit the Big Dog dealer in Simpsonville, the Harley dealer in Greenville and some others. One of our stops was Powersports of Greenville on Wade Hampton Blvd. They have Honda, Yamaha and Triumph motorcycles on the floor, amongst others. I had heard about and seen the Triumph Rocket III motorcycle on the internet and I was incredibly curious about this beast. They boast that this bike is the largest, most powerful mass production...

I'm not perfect and I've got a lot to learn when it comes to leveraging Active Rain for all of its potential. But I must say that I am confused every time I see a blog posted with the bold black type at the bottom of the blog reading "Comments have been disabled by the author". I mean, isn't this whole Active Rain thing called "social networking"? In other words, multiple people with mutual interests interacting with each other and learning from each other and helping each other. How could this wonderful, electronic, virtual discourse possibly occur if we all "disabled comments"? Uhhh, I don't get it! Come on Active Rain colleagues who disable comments...admit to yourself that a one-way conversation while looking at a computer screen can be rather "anti-social" and quite boring!

Since my Active Rain colleagues are so helpful tonight with technology suggestions, I may as well throw this one into the ring as well... I'm seriously considering a Palm Treo 800w smart phone/PDA. If you or someone you know owns one...Please respond with the good, the bad and the ugly of owning one of these things. I'm trying to force myself into more and more of the latest technologies and hopefully efficiencies to enhance my edge as a modern Realtor. I've always been a late adopter of new technologies. I'm never first in line to buy the latest gizmo or gadget. But I am willing to let my guard down lately and make concerted efforts to be certain I'm not living in the stone ages when it comes to technology that will help my real estate business. So, shoot me a response on this topic an...

I just posted a blog about my need to consider a new laptop upgrade, which results in me giving my current laptop system to my wife. I just realized that one of the most important decisions I have to make is whether or not this is the time for me to consider buying one of these new mac book laptops. Are they called Macs these days? Or macintosh? Or just Apple? Or Apple Computers? I'm obviously clueless about these products. I recall the Macintosh computers for sale in the bookstore on my college campus. They were just a small monitor with a floppy drive slot under the screen. Anyway, I keep hearing rumors that these Apples or Macs are really great now. Do they run MS Office? Are they really that great? Do they offer anything I can't accomplish on a PC? Are they overpriced by today's sta...

I just realized that it is probably time for me to consider upgrading my laptop computer. One of the reasons is that my wife's computer is one of my older Dell laptops which is overheating lately and freezing up frequently. She needs and deserves a newer system, but I typically tax the system's resources much more than my wife does, so I get the latest specs while she gets my current model. This natural "laptop food chain" has worked out well over the past few years. However, I'm now suddenly concerned with the notion that I may be forced to own and use Windows Vista operating system. I love the Windows XP Pro system I've had for the past few years. All I've ever heard is people complain about Windows Vista. Does anybody know if Vista has had the bugs worked out of it by now?

I just picked up a new listing from clients who found me on Active Rain this past week. They've already moved out of Greenville and they're in another state. It seemed obvious to me when I first viewed the property that it needed a little special attention. Considering that my clients are out of market and that they cannot afford to hire anyone to do the work, it was my pleasure to go over to their home today with my two older sons and do some work to get the place looking good! We raked the leaves from the front lawn, raked all the leaves and acorns from the driveway, I vacuumed all of the carpet, cleaned the leaves off the back deck and front porch, I trimmed the front hedges and finally dragged a large dusting towel over the ceiling fans and around the kitchen counters and appliances...

Do you appreciate Active Rain? I sure do! This past week was just fantastic as I picked up a new listing and also a referral client who intends on purchasing multiple investment properties in the Greenville area. This new business "found me" due to various participation efforts within the Active Rain community. If you are someone who has ever felt like giving up or slowing down or quitting altogether with respect to your consistent participation efforts and contributions in the Active Rain community, let me suggest that you could be making a huge mistake! Besides the fact that you can make friends, learn from others, help others feel good about themselves, educate others and every now and then make someone laugh when they really needed to laugh...you can actually pick up clients from th...

I just finished attending the November 2008 Craig Proctor Superconference in Phoenix, Arizona.  This was the first conference that I was lucky enough to be in with the Platinum group (last conference I was a "visitor" to the Platinums, this time I was "official"). The Platinum group is a set of top performing real estate agents from around North America who utilize Craig's principles, and come up with new and creative ways to make their businesses grow. I picked up several great ideas from this conference.  One of them had to do with Craigslist ads.  I have been running a fair number of craigslist ads, and received many leads from them, but this idea will allow me to more effectively utilize CL as a leadsource.  It will also save my administrative assistant a lot of time! I hope to beco...
