It is Masters Week in Augusta and Aiken.  The question everyone is asking, can Tiger win for the fifth time?  He previously won in 1997, 2001, 2002, and 2005 but this year he has had a few distractions.  Did you know that for the first time the Masters Tournament will be filmed in 3D and made available for computers and televisions with 3D capability?

It was a Winter Wonderland in Aiken, SC  - I say 'was' because the snow is pretty much all gone - except for the shady areas.  We had approx 4-5 inches here in downtown Aiken - which is VERY unusual.  There is a meterological reason as to why Aiken doesn't get much snow. I'll be writing about that soon.   This storm was great! I loved it.  Here are some pics of our little town - covered in snow.          it's a blizzard!!   next morning --soooo pretty - check it out! :     a canopy of Live Oaks along South Boundary Avenue         You can truly ENJOY all four seasons of the year, as well as the seasons of your life - here in Aiken. I love Aiken -  I wasn't born here, but Aiken sure feels like home!  Come see for yourself! What are you waiting for? Happy to help when you are looking for A...

I have had a dramatic increase in showings at my listings in recent weeks.  Traditionally, my business relies upon referrals and internet 'hits'.  Most of my Buyer clients come to me as a referred client or discover me on-line.  Lately, however, I am experienceing a tremendous rise in the number of 'sign calls.'  These calls are coming from Buyers who are out scanning their favorite neighborhoods, looking for attractive properties.  It is interesting that so many Buyers are now reverting to an old-fashioned method of shopping.  It is a wonderful challenge for me to meet Buyers in person and win them over as new clients.

There are many things that we as Real Estate agents can do to help our customers, and hopefully to turn them into long term Clients. One thing that I found very helpful is that I wrote some HTML pages on my website that help customers and clients when they are in Aiken from out of town with their accommodations and dining needs. The screen shot of my website (www.jackrothhomes.com) below from my IPhone shows 10 of the 26 restaurants in Downtown Aiken. If you "click" the phone number on the IPhone it calls the restaurant, if you "click" the website, it goes to the website and you can see the restaurants menus!   The same holds true for the Accommodations tab on my website, you can click the phone number to make reservations or click the website for pricing and room availabilities. Making...

Just curious.  Have you had to cut back on your 'normal' vacation activities this year?   A lot of us have. You know - the beach is not far from us.  About a 2 and a half hour drive to Hilton Head.  There are several public beaches with free parking.  Pack up the kids, pack up a picnic lunch, and go put your toes in the sand! R-E-L-A-X!! For most of todays cars - you can get there and back on less than a tank of gas.               Don't want to drive so far?   How about Aiken State Park.  Bring the tent and enjoy nature!   Or just visit for the day - bring your lunch, hang out by the lake...... make a day of it :)      R-E-L-A-X!!                                                                                                    Enjoy the summer - it only comes once a year :)  Ready to m...

...we've got some more construction going on!   The train depot at the corner of Park Avenue and Union Street is really coming along.   This is how it looked back in the day:     And here is the progress as of last week:  (this picture is from the side, where the historic picture is from the front)   This is a $3,000,000 project in our little city.  The train was a very important part of Aiken's history.  Really, we would have been nothing without it!   When it is completed it will replicate the original depot as historically accurate as possible.   The depot will house a railroad museum - and will be used as a visitor's center for the City of Aiken.   The Parks, Rec & Tourism Dept will have an office there as well.   I'm looking forward to the grand opening!    I'll keep you posted :) ...

Summer is officially here :)   Woo hoo!!   For me, that means beach trips.....and that football season is just around the corner!  :)      Save money this summer on your power bill - and treat yourself to an NFL or College ball game this fall!                                                              Here's how: 1.  Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or above.   Each degree lower than that can significantly increase your cooling costs, especially in our historic (and older) homes with less thermal efficiency.   2. Install a programmable thermostat.   Programmable thermostats allow you to conveniently maintain the comfort of your home when you're there and reduce energy costs when you're not.  Be sure to install a thermostat compatible with your HVAC system.  (If you rent, you will nee...
