Welcome to 2012! For many, there was no great heartache in saying goodbye to 2011. Here is an interesting perspective on real estate in Yardley, Newtown and Bucks County. I think everyone would agree that the worst investing advice in the world would be to buy high, sell low!  To me, that is the very definition of losing money on an investment.  Not too smart, if you can help it, right? So, my question for those considering buying real estate in Yardley, or Newtown, or anywhere in Bucks County,  is why would you wait for the housing market to improve, before buying a house?  Seriously, I understand that there is a lot of uncertainty out there right now.  Job security is still questionable, unemployment is too high, and there is general fear about getting approved for a mortgage.  it can...

Toys for Tots Campaign coming to a close  The Weidel Yardley/Newtown office was a drop-off site for Toys for Tots this year, for the first time. What a wonderful experience. The box was placed in our lobby, and allowed access 24 hours a day - at least for the tenants. We share the Historic Grist Mill with a handful of companies, a yoga studio and a separate karate studio. We also share the parking lot(s) with a bank, bakery, pharmacy and a restaurant.  With so may local businesses hosting Toys for Tots sites, we weren't sure how successful our toys collection would be. Turns out, we worried unnecessarily. Yoga and karate customers, employees in our building, our own Weidel Realtors and staff and the Yardley community all found their way to our donation box. Toys for Tots got a late star...

On September 24th, from 10 AM until 5 PM, over 100 fine artists and one-of-a-kind crafters set up their beautiful artwork and handmade pieces along West Afton Avenue, up Penn Valley Drive, and into Buttonwood Park as part of the 42nd Annual Yardley Harvest Day Festival.  Along West Afton Avenue, attendees will be  enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Afton, our large resident duck and Canadian geese population and the sights and sounds of historic Yardley Borough.   The largest Yardley Harvest Day Festival offered lots of family entertainment, local musicical talent, delicious food vendors, and community-sponsored booths.  Yardley Harvest Day is a rain or shine event but the overcast and threatening skies only kept a handful of vendors away.  The rains held off and by noon, the Yardley Har...

A few reminders as Hurricane Irene approaches.... As Hurricane Irene charges up the East Coast, we have had days to prepare.  By now, we should be ready, just in case we lose power or hav eissues with downede trees, downed power lines, etc. Now that your batteries, water, candles, spare food, etc are purchased, make sure you know where everything is. In the dark, you don't want to be fumbling around, looking for the flashlight. Or having the candles, but not the match. Charge your laptops, cell phones, and all battery devices now. Ipods and other MP3 players that have a radio should be charged to the fullest, as well as a battery operated radio, if you still own one. Check your porch or patio. Bring in all light objects like patio tables, etc. Make sure the kids toys are secured. Tidy u...

It was raining cats and dogs!  Yesterday, being a Sunday, was a work day for me. Open Houses for two of my locations were the order of the day. Awakened at 3:00 AM by a severe thunderstorm that lit up the sky, I started my day especially early, keeping a wary eye on the weather. By the time I left the office to show homes and then head to one of the Open Houses, it was pouring rain - and it continued to pour rain all afternoon. Surprisingly enough, we had serious buyers come into both Open Houses.  The point here is that there are serious buyers out there and they will come out even in driving rain to an Open House. It was raining cats and dogs!

Saturday August 13th is National Garage Sale Day National Garage Sale Day is this Saturday, August 13, 2011. Don't have a garage? Not to worry, make your event a yard sale, moving sale, relocation sale, divorce sale, whatever you choose to call it. As you prepare for your garage sale, take a little time to go through each room in your home and garage, including the basement, attic and barn - if you have one. If you haven't used an item or worn an article of clothing in a year, that item might be a good candidate for the garage sale. Be sure to have an idea on pricing and expect your customers to bargain. That's half the fun of the sale. Make sure all of your items are clean and ready for the sale. Fold clothing neatly. If using a hanging rack, make sure you have enough hangers for the c...

Customer Service Issues - the Bad and the Good  The appliance gods are working overtime in the Costello household these days and as usual there are lessons to be learned. About four weeks ago, my two year old, very expensive clothes dryer stopped delivering heat. I called my good old reliable national retailer which has a national service department for service. Three and a half weeks later, after a technician no show, reschedule, new tech explaining how I was wrong, taking an hour to prove there was indeed no heat, ordering a part, third tech arriving and informing me the part is wrong (any fifth grade would have known!) and rescheduling and returning with the correct part, the dryer was fixed. Along the way I spoke with approximately 7 customer service reps and supervisors who all wer...
