Yes, this morning we went up 458 feet to the viewing deck under the statue of William Penn at the top of Philadelphia City Hall, the largest municipal building in this country. The most stomach curdling part was the ride up in the elevator from the 7th floor. The door is glass, so you can see yourself hurtling skyward and passing the inside of the giant clock face which looks out over the city. I had only done this once before, and the inside of the clock still makes an impression. (photo Wikipedia)  But the biggest thrill is looking over the City of Brotherly Love from the building which was the tallest in the City until 1987 (when One Liberty Place, then Two Liberty Place were built-far right below).  Not only that, but the glass skylights gave us a view of the statue of William Penn...

This post is for cat lovers and just for fun . Those who read my posts know I own a Siamese cat named Cleo  I have discovered YouTube videos for cats . YouTube also has  video games for cats . I put the videos on when I leave the house or when I am trying to get work done on the computer and Cleo is being annoying .  I also thought it might be helpful to Endre Barath, Jr.  after reading his post about his cat knocking over the Christmas Tree he purchased for his wife Diane . Now keep in mind you need a TV that can not be knocked over. The cat may hit the screen with their paws as Cleo will try to  catch the string in this video  . I also thought  Ron and Alexandra Seigel may want to share this with their beautiful cat as well as Nina Hollander . There are also videos with mice, lazers...

"If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely". This is quote by Roald Dahl . Positive thoughts bring positive results . We were asked by my friend Carol Williams  (we also call each other sisters  ) to write  a post on a "quote " that inspires us . This quote by Roald Dahl is the one I choose .    There are many reason I chose this quote . I think this a magical quote . The truth is beauty comes from within us . Just as he says if you are thinking beautiful thoughts  it will shine through in your face and smile .   Negative thoughts and actions may make a person who is attractive look unattractive . No one wants to be around someone that always has a frown on their face or talks negatively about others . Have you met someo...

For all you creative types out there, we are not talking your average Hallmark pretty gingerbread house, but one made by actual architects and architecture students that recreate famous Pennsylvania buildings such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater (yes, the blue is falling water). Here is John Haviland's Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia by Drexel University students.  Last year, University of Pennsylvania students recreated Frank Furness’ Fisher Fine Arts Library in gingerbread. All these pieces of art came from suggestions made in a post byPennsylvania Historic Preservation

It is time to talk about Delaire Landing Condos  . The other waterfront gated community  This beautiful condo community is often shaded by it's sister community Bakers Bay .    Delaire Landing is  a beautiful waterfront community with so much to offer it's residents The park-like grounds are incomparable to any other waterfront community . Delaire Landing also has two pools  on the waterfront with a view of the Delaware River . You can watch the boats sail by while enjoying the sunshine and taking a swim  .    You can also enjoy the views while playing tennis . Let's not forget the observation deck where you can sit and watch the boats and ships sail down the River . Take a walk through the tall trees that may have seen George Washington when he sailed down the Delaware River to Delair...

I am grateful for my cat Cleo . As many of you who read my posts know how much I adore her  When I wake up in the morning she is either curled up at my feet or staring at me to get up She gladly follows me to the kitchen and patiently waits as as I make my coffee. As the coffee brews I get her bowl and pick one of her favorite flavors of Meow Mix wet food cups .  If I work from home she curls herself up next to me and the computer . If I go to the office I put on YouTube TV and she sits in front of the TV set and waits for it it to come on . When I return home she is crying or should I say meowing at the door until it opens that is unless she is in the bedroom then she comes running to greet me.  I have never had a cat .I always had dogs .Best thing about a cat is you do not have to w...

Walmart gave me great customer service. It took some doing but I received more then I bargained for. I am grateful for my 65" Sharp 4K smart TV. Last year my son-in-law, John, and my daughter, Johanna, purchased a 55'' Sharp 4K Smart TV for me on Thanksgiving. They knew how much I wanted that TV.  They love to shop after dinner at the big sale at Walmart - the Black Friday sale that now has been moved up to Thanksgiving night at 6pm. They have everything down to a science. Four of them go - my oldest grandson Ryan (17) and my oldest granddaughter Alexis (15) and John and Johanna. They know exactly what they are getting and where to go for each item ... Last year I wrote a post about the TV. Luckily they gave it to me the next day. When John took it out of the box the screen was shatte...

Today was the first snow of the season . I had to be in the office early this morning . A tech was scheduled to come in a put a program on my laptop . It was questionable when the snow would start .The tech had my laptop done quickly. We were talking and he was concerned  about  picking  up his children if there was an early dismissal . There were many schools closing early      I left the office about 10:45 AM and the fist snow flakes started falling . I took major highways as the minutes went by the heavier the snow flakes were . The roads were all pretreated so they were not slick yet . I was just worried about it turning to ice as that what they were predicting . I was lucky visibility was just starting to get a little white .    Driving was easy as the roads were treated and as I...

Today I have been thinking about what I am grateful for. There are so many things to be thankful for .Speaking to so many people in the last several weeks I must say one  of the things was my childhood .  Growing up in a time where your social life was really social . You played with other children not computers , Xboxes or iPpads or IPhones .  I lived in the city we played in the driveways after school and after dinner . We played ball , hopscotch and hoola hoops . We sang songs on the corners went to dances . Life was much more simple then it is today .    If our friends died it was because they fought in the Vietnam War  Not from an overdose of opioid . Yes I am grateful that my Mother and Father taught me respect for my elders and teachers  . I would never think of picking up a gun...

I am grateful for my Keurig coffee maker . I am sure there are much bigger and better coffee makers on the market but I am grateful for this little coffee maker. One morning in the end of Sept. I woke up to a broken coffee maker . Cold water came pouring out . I am not a happy camper without my cup of coffee . I looked on line and Walmart had the best price .I wrote a post on it  The main reason I like my Keurig is I like different flavors of coffee .One morning I may like Cinnamon Bun and the next cup I may want Chocolate Rasberry . The next day I may want a cup of Hawaiian coffee and then Peppermint Chocolate for  my second cup .Yes I usually have two cups of coffee to start my day and the Keurig gives me the opportunity to do this . I still have the flavor of a fresh brewed cup of c...

Today as I drove home I had to stop and take a few pictures to share . The  trees were just so beautiful .Fall is now in full bloom and the colors of Fall are everywhere . When I look at these colors I am in awe .  Fall is my favorite time of year . The weather is  perfect. A sweater or light jacket is all you need .  I am thankful for all the beauty around me . All the color are breath taking . I took some pictures to share with you . There is a saying a picture is worth a thousand words . I believe this to be true .  It will be raining this weekend and windy . I hope the leaves will still be on the trees as it seems the bright colors have just appeared on the trees . I know last weekend I took some pictures by the river and the leaves were still green .    We are changing the clocks...

Was going to make this a Wordless Wednesday but I had too much to say . waking up in the middle of the night for my usual bathroom visit the only exception was there wasn't any lights .I has to feel around to get back to the bedroom and find my phone making a call to the electric company PECO that said they were aware of the outage at 3 AM  .Luckily I had just purchased a new fluffy comforter and snuggled back to sleep . I figured by morning all would be well  I was wrong . When I woke up the light switches were still not working  When I called Peco they said 4:30 PM the power would be restored . I had planed to work from home but without power or heat that would not work . Brushing my teeth by the light of an IPhone is very interesting but not fun . No make-up today but I will say the...

I was early for a Society of Architectural Historians meeting at the Athenaeum on Washington Square the other day, so I took some time and explored the Square and the Curtis Building, which faces it. One of the original 5 squares laid out by William Penn, the history of the area is below: In the 18th century, Washington Square served as a potter’s field for those who couldn’t afford (or were deemed not to deserve) burial in churchyards or private graveyards. During the Revolutionary War, when the British occupied the city, prisoners who died in Walnut Street Prison, at 6th and Walnut, were buried here in 20-by-30-foot mass graves, with coffins piled atop one another. It was last used as a burial ground during the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. Spectators crammed Washington Square to see...

While cleaning out my closet on this beautiful sunny Fall Sunday . It looks like I will have to leave  Summer clothes and shoes as the weather this week will be in the mid 80's .  Cleo was watching me sitting on her favorite chair  I took the camera and said "say cheese" Cleo turned and  looked up. Happy Sunday
