Downingtown, PA is Turning 150 I saw the sign on Pennsylvania Avenue near the gazebo, "Volunteers needed for Downingtown's Sesquicentennial Celebration. Call 610-269-0344." I'd seen it for a couple of days, and finally decided this was something I needed to be involved in. I was born in West Chester, PA and lived in Downingtown until I was eight years old. Downingtown held many memories for me- and after living around the world (Air Force brat) - it was the only real place to call "home".What a great opportunity to give back to the community ! It has been fun to be a part of the planning - to come together with other people who care about the town and want to make the celebration event a hit with the community. The memories of the town have been so fun to learn - and I don't consider m...

Has anyone really read the fine print.....  The bill reinstates last year's 2008 loan limits for FHA, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae loans.  These limits were equal to the greater of 125% of the 2008 local area median home price or $271,050 for FHA and $417,000 for Fannie and Freddie, with an overall maximum cap of  $729,750.  For the few areas where the 2009 limits were higher, the higher limits will apply.  In addition, the bill includes language providing the HUD Secretary with the discretion, if warranted, to increase the loan limit for any “sub-area”, i.e.an area smaller than a county. The Secretary's discretion is again limited by the $729,750 cap. These 2009 limits will expire December 31, 2009. The inclusion of these loan limit provisions in the final bill is a victory for homeown...

We're Moving Again!!!   March 29, 2008 at our annual Dinner Dance & Auction the Board of Directors and the staff of Downingtown Area Senior Center announced their plans to relocate.  This newer and larger facility will be a collaborative effort between the Senior Center and the Downingtown Library.  Both organizations will work with Mr. Peter Uhlman of The Percheron Group to renovate an existing building on the former Sonoco Paper Mill property located in the Borough of Downingtown at the intersection of Boot Road and Route 322.    The cost of renovations will be approximately $3.5 million dollars and the Senior Center and Library will work together to raise the funds needed to complete the project.  With a lead gift of $1 million dollars made possible by the developer combined with the...

I am by no way a political animal, or one who always starts the political conversations....yet I know many may be irritated by the long lines and wait at many of the polling places. I just voted in East Brandywine and the entire process took less than 20 minutes.  While I know there has to be a better way to get the line flowing, I appreciate all those who volunteer their time for the cause. I stopped by the local pharmacy and heard of an hour to a two hour wait to vote.....THE IMPORTANT THING TO GET HERE IS THAT THEY ALL WAITED TO VOTE!!!!!!!     The Dan Brudnok - John McGovern TeamWe appreciate your referrals!!!!!!!Keller Williams Real EstateDan - direct @ 610-256-7258John - direct @ 610-331-9964Office - main @ 610-363-4300Click here for the most up to date Real Estate market conditio...

What a great day we had on Monday (October 13, 2008) for the Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce Golf outing that benefited the Terry Muzzy Scholarship Foundation.  We were blessed with great weather (78 and sunny) for such a late date. The turn out was 62 golfer's and many sponsorships that made the outcome a success.   Martie Muzzy was able to come and give us a great send off for the day with some truly inspirational words about Terry's contribution to the area and especially the Downingtown area School District. I want to thank all who took the time to sponsor, give their time to the event and play the game.....without the support this event would not have been so successful.     The Dan Brudnok - John McGovern TeamWe appreciate your referrals!!!!!!!Keller Williams Real EstateDan -...

Just when you thought that is was a great Wednesday night for Downingtown, and it was with Congressman Jim Gerlach's presentation of his Federal Funds for the Boot Road Bridge project, our great Governor steps in yesterday with a check for $6,000,000.00 for the River Station Project on the former Sonoco site.  On hand to receive the funds were Jamie Bruton and Bob Smith from the Borough Council and Steve Sullins the Borough Manager. This was done as Governor Rendell travels the State of Pennsylvania to deliver great news throughout it and hand out $78 M in much needed funds to many municipalities for their projects as well.  Once again another huge step for the Downingtown community. I was fortunate to attend the announcement tonight from Congressman Jim Gerlach and the Federal funding of the Boot Road Bridge project in the amount of $1,200,000.00.  A great boost in the arm of the massive redevelopment project taken form in the Downingtown area and the private financing of the Percheron Group and Peter Uhlman. The announcement was shared with many who know the hard work necessary to make a project that may be as much as $400M when complete.  joining in the announcement was State Representative Curt Schroder, most of the Downingtown Borough Council.....The Borough Manager Steve Sullins.....Police Chief Jim McGowan and many others.... The vision of this project was a result of the hard work of many of the town's business people including Hank Hamilton and Jeff Valocch...

I just wanted to let my Active Rain family know that I have put my money where my mouth is.....I was nominated to fill one of the three upcoming vacant seats on the Pastoral Council at St. Joseph's Church in Downingtown. The interview / dinner was in mid-June and the process was very informal and very social. I knew some of the member's already, yet I was please to meet and interact a bit with those from my own congregation that I haven't had the pleasure. I felt that I made an impression, yet the decision wasn't to be made until their July meeting.....well the letter came to day and I was selected.   I can not express how happy I am to become more involved in my Parrish and hopefully I will be able to contribute to this community and help us grow and reach or goals for it. My first mee...

Well if you did not stop by, you missed one heck of a time.  The first (and of many) St. Joseph's Church in Downingtown was a hit and a success. Saturday night's crowd was good and steady and provided a great finally to a good week of community, family and charity. The Grand prize drawing was complete and good to say no incident's at all. The banding together of the Church family, its leaders and the Knight's of Columbus all should be applauded for a great end. We are coming down the home stretch now.....Friday was another great family night at the carnival The crowd seemed a bit off from Thursday, however the food booths ere very steady and our games of chance did well too. WOW!!!!!!!!! The third day of the Carnival was just fantastic....the weather was great, the Family night one price tickets went like hotcakes....and speaking of food, we had fun time keeping up with the lines.....and oh yes, we succeeded!!!!! The crowd once again was great and the volunteers were abundant. Friday night should be good once again, not a 1 price ride night, yet the weather will be good and the support of the base Church community has been outstanding. Well we were blessed with good weather once again.  The rain sprinkled for about 5 minutes then decided to move on.  I do believe that while we had a good crowd, that it was somewhat dampened because of the call for storms around 8 PM.  We were having a wristband night ($15.00 covers all rides for the night). The food went well and once again we were blessed with many volunteers. Thursday night is another wristband night so come one come all, 6 PM - 10 PM.....join in the fun. The Carnival last through Saturday night with the 3 great prize drawings......a plasma tv, laptop computer and Wii game console.
