We've had some neighbors who ski as much as they can point out to us that for December the hours of operation, Monday through Thursday, BEGIN at 11AM. That means no one is on the slopes until 11AM. Knowing that this is a change we wanted to make sure before you make the trip up you go directly to the Seven Springs site for verification! A few weeks ago at the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureaus 50th anniversary celebration at Seven Springs we got to meet Bob Nutting (one of the owners). He was insistent that we get together with CEO Eric Mauck and check out all of the new and exciting projects in the works at the resort. Bob also expressed his families desire to be a good neighbor and their intent to encourage visitors to check out businesses and venues in the area. Eric is a ball of fire! We dare anyone to keep up with him. He talked about some of the major projects he had been involved with at Oglebay Resort that have prepared him for his leadership role at Seven Springs. For all of you die hard, kick off weekend enthusiasts, be prepared, the rumors are true. We have been able to verify that ALL bars at the resort will have last call at 12:30 and the doors will close at 1 AM.  The good news! The Foggy Goggle is dramatically expanding! The entire floor, where all of the picnic tables were will now be ALL FOGGY. There's even a new bar that replaces the food concessions. The picnic tables have been replaced with tables and there will be a real menu! Families that used to camp out on the picnic tables will still find them. WOW! Our posting on the graphic designer hire has turned to what's happening for those night owls who have enjoyed evening entertainment and libations at Seven Springs. In all honesty we heard about a week or so ago that there were going to be changes on when the bars would be making last calls. As we were getting ready for our National REALTOR meetings we thought we would report on this when we got back. Apparently the Halloween bash was the first "big" event that the new hours were in place. We're doing our best to track down the actual new policy and as soon as we hear it from a credible source we'll report back! As of today what we are hearing is the Matterhorn last call is at 12:30 and all accounts will be closed out by 1 AM. Bruce Siwy of the Somerset Daily American reported today that Seven Springs Mountain Resort has reached an agreement to "regain management of Laurel Mountain Ski Resort." You may recall that back in 2004 Seven Springs stepped in to open the resort up for the winter season. This was a year after Somerset Trust obtained the assets of Laurel Mountain Ski Resort. After that season Seven Springs involvement stopped. Locals would love to see this resort open and stay open! One of the big problems is that it's only the "management" and not the "ownership" of Laurel Mountain that Seven Springs is taking over. With that comes the issue of funding the operation. Last week we were told that "The Villages at Seven Springs Real Estate Resort Property Sales" name has been retired. It's a sad day for Abe as she remembers when she worked with Kettler Forlines, Inc and they opened up the resale division. She was the Broker of Record. She shares, "Back then we were all about new construction. We were turning prospective buyers for resales away when they came into our office. Market Overview After returning from our mid year national and our state REALTOR meetings here is the message, "When you hear that the national average temperature is 68 degrees for today, you automatically stop and adjust it to fit your home town." Our phone has been ringing off of the hook!  Effective today, Scott Bender, CEO of Seven Springs Mountain Resort handed in his resignation. Rumors have been flying for the past month of his departure. They all have been strongly denied by Scott and those around him. We believe his talents are going to be utilized here in the Laurel Highlands (Hidden Valley has yet to hire a General Manager). At the inner circle of management for the Nutting's there are few "top dogs" remaining from the Dupre era. Home owners in ALL of the Associations should take the time to be very involved! What ever hand shake or written agreements there have been in the past Scott was in the middle of working out the details. Without his presence there could be many changes in the days ahead. We recently discovered that the "Dupre" meeting room at Seven Springs has been renamed "Wintergreen" and that all of the history of the family that created Seven Springs is off the walls. In 1994 Abe wrote this story to honor "Grandma Dupre" and the family legacy. Yes, it's long but you don't build a resort in less than 200 words! In Fond Memory of Helen Kress Dupre 1902-1994 ... honoring the years of hard work and dedication she and her family have contributed to creating the Seven Springs we know, love and enjoy today. Yesterday... In 1927, Adolph Dupre was raccoon hunting with some friends from Ligonier. A moonshiner, defending his still, took a shot that came uncomfortably close to his ear.
