How was the real estate market in January? I know I know, I am about 30 days late getting this out.  But, better late than never.Only one large acreage property sold in January, but 8 homes in town did sell. This low inventory is pretty seasonal for January, but we are seeing a shortage of inventory across the board. Of the 8 homes that sold in town, the average sold price increased over all of 2019, as did the list to sale ratio.  Sellers saw 99.26% of their asking price.  There were28 homes for sale in January, creating a 3.5 month inventory of supply, which still indicates a seller's market, but it is slowly creeping towards a balanced market. To see the full infograph for the Silverton Real Estate Market Update in January, click the link.

How is the real estate market in Silverton Oregon?  Rural real estate on larger acreage is rare, that's for sure!  And once you find the right property, odds are so did several other buyers, as indicated by the near full price offers most sellers received last year.  All the data gathered indicates we are still in a seller's market, which is continuing to support the high real estate values. Click the link to see the full infograph of data broken down by the acreage size for properites in Silverton.  If you need data on other areas around the Willamette Valley of Oregon, we can help with that too.

We wanted to do something different this year, avoiding the carnivals, large crowds and festivities.  There is nothing wrong with those events, in fact they are very patriotic.  We just were in the mood for something quiet.  So, my husband and I made plans to go fishing this morning.  We are not experienced fishers by any means, we have only been out a handful of times.  So we obtained or fishing licenses, rounded up the gear (dusted it off) and set the alarm to get up early. We checked the Oregon Fishing Guide to find out the limits, required bait and where to go.  After a quick breakfast we headed out to Silver Creek Reservoir this morning.  I have driven by many times showing property in Silverton, but never actually been to the Reservoir. The lake is beautiful.  There is a fishing p...

As many of you know I am a huge baseball fan and I’ve also written a post or two about an Oregon native who became a Boston hero. Johnny Pesky was from Silverton, Oregon and played for the Silverton Red Sox and then eventually went on to play for the Boston Red Sox. (Go there and ask about the Pesky Pole and hear some great stories)Johnny, you will be missed and though I was hoping to meet you, just never got the opportunity despite you coming back to see your brother every couple years and being here at the last Beaver’s baseball game. You will be missed by baseball fans every where, you were a true hero to the game.

Ever look at photos where the floor isn't level - hmmm is it the photo or is the house not structurally sound?  Or noticed a doorway that is at an angle in a photo that you thought would be perfect? So often when I'm taking photos, I tend to lean to the left or the right - it's a minor lean, but obvious when I'm editing photos and so annoying when everything else in the shot Is great.  I've tried to line my shots up so doorframes are straight, etc, but sometimes when using a wide angle lens it's difficult for us amateur photographers! I'm SO EXCITED!  I use www.Picnik.com to edit photos frequently, and have written of its ease of use in prior blogs.  I just stumbled across a new feature - using the rotate button.  This feature not only can rotate a full quarter turn, it also can set a g...

The Oregon Garden Resort is now open. This  photo was take while still under construction.  Silverton has been the home of the local attraction the Oregon Garden for the past several years.  The garden attracts visitors from all over the world.  It has a natural ampitheater and this year attracted top name acts like Pat Benetar and George Thorogood.  At the end of April the Garden is host to the Blooms and Brews Fest bringing in 75+ breweries and raising funds for charity. A few weeks ago we went camping just outside Silverton at Silver Falls State Park, and I have to say, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I will have many more pictures coming in the next couple weeks. But, today is about the history of a little town outside of Salem.Silverton, Oregon, is a small community that is rich in History. Despite its small size it has had many famous residents: Clark Gabel, Don Pettit (Astronaut), and Homer Davenport (Famous Political Cartoonist from the early 1900s), and Johnny Pesky (Red Sox baseball). Each room at the museum has its own theme and each item has a story. There is the class room, doctor's office, sports room and even what I called the fabric room. The fabric room showed some amazing dresses made by the lady who made the dresses for many o...

Yesterday was a great day in Boston as the Red Sox retired the jersey of one Johnny Pesky. You don't know who Johnny Pesky is? Well let me tell you the story of Mr. Pesky or as he is called her in Oregon, "Mr. Red Sox."A couple weeks ago I didn't know who Mr. Pesky was either until I visited the Silverton History museum and found out all about Mr. Pesky and now seeing his number retired is just awesome. You see, in 1938 in Silverton, Oregon, they had a AAA ball club called the Silverton Red Sox. That is where Mr. Pesky got his start. He played baseball here, went off to war, came back, and then got drafted to the big leagues where he has been with the Boston Red Sox ever since!Mr. Pesky may not be famous outside of Boston, but outside of Portland, in the little town of Silverton, they a...
