Mail Tribune/Jaimie Lusch   Medford Oregon Sports Park is such an amazing place we are so lucky to have this here in Southern Oregon.  This U.S. Cellular Community park brings in top notch talent from all over the country to play on the fields. There are soccer fields, baseball fields, walking trails, and much more. The Medford Oregon Sports Park generated millions of dollars in revenue for local businesses and preserved about 80 jobs as well.  Medford Oregons climate is so nice that these fields are used all year long, I have not seen it snow here once this year but I heard it did when I was on vacation.  It didn't stick though. Jacksonville Oregon had a -14.8% change. NW Medford Oregon had a + 28.9% gain. West Medford Oregon had a -29.9% change. SW Medford Oregon had a -6.9% change. East Medford Oregon had a -19.2% change. Central Point Oregon had a -16% change. White City Oregon had a -32.8% change. Eagle Point Oregon had a -18.5% change. Shady Cove/Trail Oregon had a -3.7% change. For the folks who don't know what this is about I think it is fabulous for downtown Medford Oregon as it will bring life and some class to the area.  Lithia Motors is going to build a four story 40,000 sqft Lithia Building and a two city park blocks.  This is an area right now that does not look pretty and Medford Oregon is such and amazing place that it is great to get downtown area spruced up a lot. Now the negative people are saying well this is not what was intended in the first place, there was supposed to be a 10 story 100,000 sqft building and some other goodies but what they fail to look at is the demise of the auto industry.  Granted things are coming back but everyone as learned a lesson and needs to re-tool their agenda. Moving To Southern Oregon Southern Oregon was once centered around Jacksonville because it quickly became the gold mining capital of the area. As mining was responsible for developing the entire Southwest corner of Oregon, Jacksonville was the county seat.  It was named for Jackson Creek which runs through the town. Unfortunately for Jacksonville, it was off the beaten path and higher in altitude than Medford, so logically for the future railroad, everything had to shift to the east.             Medford, so named because it was the middle of three fords across the Rogue River, was the logical choice for the future dominance of the area. North Medford was the winner of the 2004 OSSA Oregonian Cup - recognizing excellence in academics, athletics, activities and sportsmanship. Hoover Elementary School Medford Oregon 97504, this is the front of the school.   This school not only rates as one of the top elementary schools in Medford Oregon but ranks up there in the State of Oregon for Exceptional school. Dutch Bros Coffee - Southern Oregon Canned Food Drive.  Grants Pass-based Dutch Bros Coffee Company plans its annual Dutch Love "Cans for Coffee" food drive to benefit ACCESS Inc.  Coffee lovers can receive a free cup of their favorite Joe (today) in exchange for bringing 3 cans of food to any of the 19 Dutch Bros coffee locations in Jackson County Oregon. Last year's Dutch Bros Coffee - Southern Oregon Canned Food drive raised 9,522 pounds of food for ACCESS, Inc.  The ACCESS Food Share Pantry (22 pantries in total) provide food for more 7,200 people each month in Southern Oregon. 02/12/2010

Best Buy Store comes to Medford Oregon!  Southern Oregon's first Best Buy electronics store will set up shop at the former site of Joe's Sporting Goods in the busy Poplar Square shopping center in Medford.  Finally, Southern Oregon will have a place to shop for electronics.  Now, if only we could score a Trader Joe's! Best Buy Store will open sometime this summer in Medford Oregon.  Best Buy will likely employ an estimated 100 people.  That's good news for Rogue Valley residents... especially if you're searching for the latest and greatest electronic gadget. On January 26 th the CoStar Group presented their 2009 review of the U.S. retail market.  Take heart!  While the numbers aren't pretty, it's not all doom and gloom.    Shown below are the top 10 salient points from their webinar presentation.  The positive points have been bolded:   1.    Retail sales per capita are down about 7% from their peak in 2007.   2.    The largest declines in retail sales since April 2009 have occurred in Furniture & Home Furnishing stores (-3.3%) and Building Materials & Garden Supplies (-4.1%).    3.    Same store sales are improving from December of 2008 (down -8% to -10% from the previous year) to December of 2009 (0% to 2%).   4.    The last 3 quarters of 2009 showed ever increasing leasing activity indicating an improving economy.    5.    Free standing ... 02/11/2010

  A new social networking platform was recently released called Google Buzz. www.google.com/buzz I thought as our companies designated technology research-ist, I had better sign up and check it out. Here are my thoughts: 1. What does it really do? Well, so far I am not impressed, and am quite under-whelmed. The interface is clunky, slow, and difficult to navigate (and I say that as a techie) - which I think will ultimately prevent it from catching on as quickly as its competitor. 2. Where' the Google juice? I always look to see how beneficial a blog or social network will be for my Google search rankings.
