When I lived in Minneapolis, what many refer to as the Twin Cities nowadays, we always knew there was another town on the other side of the Mississippi River, which divided the two cities, but when you're from Minneapolis, you don't really think much about it. Unless you're from Saint Paul, and then you agonize over what people in Minneapolis think of you. Ha, ha. Little joke there meant to inflame those from St. Paul.Actually, I think the joke goes: if you say you're a painter, you are an artist if you live in Minneapolis. A house painter if you live in St. Paul.It makes me wonder what kind of rivalry exists between those who live on one side of the Columbia River, which is Washington, versus a whole 'notehr state on the other side, which is Oregon. The Columbia River Gorge is an inter...

The show opened to rave reviews December 12th, and runs through December 21st.   Based on the popular book by Barbara Robinson, the play is an unroarious story about a Christmas Pagaent gone awry. The play follows the efforts of an unwitting mother, snagged into running her church's annual Christmas pagaent at the last moment. She is faced with having to cast the worst kids from the worst family in the neighborhood, the Herdmans. What follows is a heartwarming lesson, told in hilarious fashion, about the true spirit of the Christmas story. This production is directed by Kathleen Morrow and stars a cast of ...

Founded in 1926, Crag Rats are the oldest search and rescue organization in the United States, conducting operations on Mt. Hood and in the Columbia River Gorge.   Silent Saturday - Mt. Adams Peeks Through The Clouds   Early winter in the Columbia River Gorge is often shrouded in clouds most mornings, bringing lots of rain and snow. I love this shot of Mt. Adams I captured Thursday morning as a rare, small break in the clouds let the sun-bathed peak show through. I took this from Hood River Middle School of the peak to our north, in Washington.

Another Sale Pending: Who Says You Can't Sell During The Holidays?!   This charming Hood River 97031 cabin just went under contract this week, proving that even this is a great time to be selling! True, many consider the spring and summer to be the optimal selling/buying season, but here in the Hood River Valley, our fall and now winter has been booming!   Here's why NOW may be the perfect time to sell your Columbia River Gorge real estate: * In the Columbia River Gorge, the real estate market has recovered to the point that this year's busy season was the best in five years. Sales remained strong through November and into the winter. * Because of the perception that it is off season, there are fewer homes on the market and that translates to less competition for your home. * People w...

Playful, Curious and Spunky... Meet Harlow!   Have you ever met a "Chug"? Well, now you have. This adorable girl is a chihuahua/pug mix and she's about one year old... or so the good folks at the shelter are guessing. She was left tied to the front door of the shelter one very cold evening, where she must have been for a few hours. She was freezing and scared when they took her in, gave her a warm meal and lots of love. Now she's showing her true colors, being playful, curious, spunky and ever cheerful. And what a cuddler this sweetie is! She loves the other dogs and plays well with them, while she especially loves her green stuffed dinosaur and carries him everywhere. Check out Harlow's video on the shelter's website. Harlow weighs about 15 pounds, is spayed, current on shots and mic...
