It is "Black Wall Street."  It is where Count Basie heard his first big band.  And it suffered the 1921 Race Riots.  It is Tulsa's historic Greenwood neighborhood. The Greenwood neighborhood was home to prosperous black businesses during the oil boom of the 1910s.  Many black community leaders opened shop and became multimillionaires in this small Tulsa neighborhood.  Their success caused Greenwood to become known as the "Black Wall Street." The area had a thriving music scene and in 1927 Count Basie claims to have heard the big band sound for the first time.
