I have always tried to teach my kids that to make it in the world; you have to pay your dues.  That no one just gets lucky and hard work makes luck.  I’m wondering now if it’s time to eat my words…paying your dues sometimes results in nothing.  Not in Eaton Sports anyway.  Before I go much further here, let me preface this by saying that this is only my OPINION.  Of which I am entitled to.  You may not and don’t have to like it.  You may and certainly CAN have a different opinion.  And if you do, by all means share it with me so maybe I can see this from a different light.  Because I would LOVE to.  I am not one of “those” parents.  And you know of whom I speak.  The parent that is constantly calling the coach, asking for preferential treatment for their child.  The parent that thinks j...

Eaton Soccer – one of the “other” fall sports.   This is going to be objectionable to some readers, so I am putting this warning up right at the start.  If you don’t like my opinion, that’s fine.  Respect mine and I will respect yours.  Thank youJ   In some countries, well, MOST countries, soccer is the most popular sport.  There are many reasons why…   All anybody needs to be able to play is a ball.  Not much else is required as far as gear or apparatus.  And what equipment might be needed is inexpensive.   The premise is relatively simple.  All you need is two teams and a ball.  This makes it one of the only sports that can be played even in developing nations.   The rules are simple – don’t use your arms, kick the ball into the net.  Of course it’s a little more complex than that, bu...

Change is in the air, and as cool as the mornings have been lately, Fall is too!  I don’t know why I always associate Fall with change?  Maybe the leaves turning colors?  Maybe getting out of my summer wardrobe and into some warmer clothes?  Could be just watching my children start into new grades, new adventures.   As I sit here pondering this, I think back to last Fall.  I am NO WHERE close to where I imagined I would be.   I couldn’t have even pictured at the time that I would be working in a BRAND NEW real estate brokerage.  I never dreamed I would be the one to find the office space for our professional new brokerage.  I certainly didn’t think that I would be the one to create the name for our company, Preble Plus Realty.  Yet here I am…in a new space with a new name, working to cr...

Preble County Ohio has some beautiful historical houses and properties.  The city of Eaton is the county seat and is mainly comprised of historical homes, with some scattered new housing developments in the area as well.  Eaton hosts the annual Pork Festival, which is actually where I'm headed after I get done with this post.  :-)Lake Lakengren is a beautiful private community, almost a city of its own.  It has a very large lake with many homes bordering the waterfront.  The lake has fishing, swimming and boating available as well as a large clubhouse for your family gatherings.See all active Cincinnati MLS for your area including Preble County properties:http://www.swohiorealestate.comPreble County is also known for its massive family farms, rich with crops, livestock and much more!Nea...

I remember this day like it was yesterday, although 11 years have passed.  I was in our front yard, playing with my kids and my husband was way across the country on a hunting trip in Colorado.  A tree had fallen in our front yard in a recent storm, and the kids were enjoying playing on the fallen tree.  A woman came walking by and stopped to ask me if I had turned on the TV?  I replied that I hadn’t and she said I should.   So I took the kids inside and turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit the South tower of the TwinTowers.  I knew right then our world would never be the same.  I told the kids to go play in their rooms, because although they were little at the time, I didn’t want them to witness the horror I was watching on the TV.   It seemed like the entire count...

My life, or the better part of it, is spent looking at houses.  I've seen some stunning ones for sure...contemporary homes styled with the latest art pieces and modern IKEA furnishings.  And I've seen some ugly homes too...not only ugly in design but just lacking in any personal taste...you would hardly know anyone lives there. My favorite things to see in a home though, are family pictures.  Especially of pets.  A picture of a pet can tell you more about the person who lives there than I believe anything else can. Is it a pocket dog?  Maybe high maintenance. A pure-breed living in the lap of luxury?  Could be that pets' owner likes the finer things in life. A fat cat?  I'd bet that home is warm and comfortable, with a rocker on the front porch to laze away a sleepy afternoon. Maybe a L...

This has been weighing heavily on my mind ever since I saw this pop up on facebook on Monday.  Preble County Ohio has always been considered (to me and many others) as a pretty safe and sheltered part of the world.  And this has hit way too close to home...     I put this out there hoping that someone, anyone, out there might know about this or happen to see this girl.  I know the power of social media and hope that this might help.  She disappeared only a few short miles from my own home, where my own children live and play.  I cant imagine the fear and pain this family feels. Please keep your eyes open and say a prayer.  Thank you!

1. It’s a great place to live. I guess if you are used to the big city life, maybe not so much. But if you are looking for a close knit community, a place with top-rated schools of excellence, and a place close to conveniences but still off the beaten path, then Preble County is the place for you!    2. We have our own gated community. I have found, over the years, that most people in general have a love-it or hate-it view of our local gated community-Lakengren. I have lived in Lakengren for ten years now and overall…LOVE IT! The annual dues are about $680.00. Ok, some people balk at annual dues. Break it down…that’s about $56.00 dollars per month. We don’t pay City of Eaton tax you know…In addition, I get access to the community pool, as does my family, without having to spring for a y...

This has been a year full of many ups and downs for my family.  I have spent many an hour stressing and worrying about the outcome of my future and the future of my family.  Through it all, however, I have been fortunate enough to always provide for my children, and feel especially grateful at this time of year…that for my children and the children of my family and friends, there WILL be presents to open on Christmas day.   Sadly, for many people this is not the case.  And don’t believe for an instant that the person you see every day that LOOKS like they have it all together really does.  LOTS of people are hurting, in Preble County Ohio and beyond.  Maybe your co-worker, maybe a neighbor or fellow church-goer?  Maybe that person who checks you out at the Grocery or rings up all of y...

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas.  Well, actually it isn't.  It has been rainy and gray outside for the past three days.  Even so, the Holidays are right around the corner...as evidenced by the deluge of commercials and holiday music piped thru every store speaker system out there.  Anyways...here is a list of what"s happening in the Lakengren Community for December 2011:   Dec 3- Dragon's Hold'em 7pm at the Lodge Dec 5- Arts and Entertainment Committee Mtg 7pm at the Lodge Dec 7- LWC Christmas carry-in at noon at the Lodge Dec 8- Dragon's Mtg 7:30pm at the Lodge Dec 10- Adult Holiday Gathering 8pm at the Lodge Dec 11- Polar Express, Kids' Christmas OPen House 3-5pm at the Lodge Dec 12- LPOA Board Mtg 7pm at the Marina Club House Dec 15- Safety Committee Mtg 5pm at the Lodge D...

If you don't live in Ohio, you may have heard this story anyways, as it was on Good Morning America.  On Tuesday, October 18,2011 in Zanesville Ohio, exotic pet owner Terry Thompson opened the cages of all of his animals, letting loose lions, bears, tigers and more, before killing himself. The reasons he killed himself are unclear, but it is reported that he allegedly had trouble with local authorities regarding his keeping of exotic pets, as well as the level of care he was, or wasn't providing them. Here is a link to the story.  Apparently, animals of all kind were running free. 17 lions and 18 rare Bengal tigers, wolves, monkeys, a baboon, mountain lions, black bears and grizzly bears.  The saddest part of all...MOST of these animals were put down, including all the lions and rare Be...
