Brookside Woods homes are in the Worthington School District... unless of course they are in the Dublin School District.   The school districts were minding their own business... the land was sitting there... or maybe there was corn or soybeans planted there... I did not move to the area until 1990, I am assuming that northwest Columbus area was rural in the late 70's... early 1980's... Brookside Woods is not the only City of Columbus neighborhood along Snouffer Road that some homes are in Dublin schools, other homes are in the Worthington school district. The school districts pre-existed the development of the area by the City of Columbus. The majority of Brookside Woods neighborhood is in the Worthington School District.  Brookside Woods runs from Snouffer Road (or Snouffer/ Bentree ...

There's the traditional Worthington Memorial Day Parade on Monday of course.  The route is west from Dublin Granville Road at Morning Street to High Street and south to the Walnut Grove Cemetery.  The Worthington Memorial Day parade starts at 10:00 A.M.The Worthington Memorial Day Parade is sponsored by the American Legion Leasure - Blackston Post 239 Worthington Ohio. The grand marshalls for the 2009 Worthington Memorial Day Parade are twin brothers who grew up in on a farm north of Worthington and served in World War II, Don and Ron Dill, according to an article about the 2009 Worthington Memorial  Day Parade in the Worthington edition of This Week Community Newspaper.   My slideshow of the 2007 Worthington Memorial Day Parade I missed the 2008 Worthington Memorial Day Parade. I asked on another real estate blog  "What is Columbus Best Suburb?" with a poll.  I asked about Bexley, Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview Heights, Hilliard, Lewis Center, Marble Cliff, Minerva Park, New Albany, Riverlea, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Worthington, Powell and others.   I also allowed votes for Other: Two of the five other votes are for two City of Columbus neighborhoods... a vote for Clintonville says: "not a suburb but the best neighborhood CLINTONVILLE"   There's some neighborhood pride! The other "Other answer" votes?  Someone voted for a SE Columbus suburb. Someone voted "Other" for Powell which is on the list on the poll but did not get any votes. Ooops Powell is out of order alphabetically which may be why the person who voted "Other" and said "Powell" did so. To date Dub...

Old Worthington is applying to be on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.  Again. This Week Community News has the story,  Old Worthington applies to join list of national historic districts.  According to the newspaper article written by This Week News staff writer, Candy Brooks a 1999 effort to get Old Worthington on the list was denied because structures already on the list were included in the application.  Most people are surprised that Old Worthington is not a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the newspaper article: "The National Register is administered by the National Parks Services. Nationwide, there are 13,594 historic districts, including 33 in Franklin County. Worthington's Rush Creek Village is on ...

View Larger Map The historic style brought to mind by Worthington is usually "colonial" or "colonial revival." Yet Worthington home to Rush Creek Village has a large neighborhood of mid-century modern homes.  The homes in Rush Creek Village were built in the Usonian style reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright.  The Rush Creek Village homes were designed by Theodore Van Fossen and built by Richard Wakefield. Rush Creek Village is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rush Creek homes are distinctive with cinder block walls, flat roofs, no garages. A New York Times Article, (here in the  San Diego Union Tribune) from 2004 subtitled "Little-known Rush Creek quietly survives 50 years, a testament to the principles of Frank Lloyd Wright" says of the Westbrook family  in 1987: "There, ...

There are great websites and magazines about  "Mid-Century Modern", the "Mid-Century Marvels", the "Atomic Ranch", etc. Another site I recently found Mid-Century Style says this: "Welcome to Mid-Century Style, where we celebrate the architecture of the 1950's. Not just the modern, but also just the regular middle class blond brick ranches and frame residential homes." Look at this bathroom - Mid-Century Style Blog - Updates! Check Out This Bathroom an earlier post about these Denver Colorado fixtures looking for a home says: “We bought a 1958 turquoise bathtub/sink/toilet a while back to remodel our own bathroom, since then things have changed and we’ll be moving out so we need to get rid of the blue bathroom." That's no ordinary blue that's  1950's turquise! Mid 20th century homes, the ...

I believe I have always said "Davis Estates" rather than "Estate." I remember an agent listing a house in Davis Estate (or is it Davis Estates?) as Colonial Hills West back in the 1990's.     View Larger Map     The Neighborhoods list on City of Worthington website  "About"  page calls the neighborhood "Davis Estate" and lists the year as 1926.  That must be the year the Davis Estate neighborhood was platted.  The houses in the neighborhood are almost all from the 1940's  I believe. A few were built in the 1950's.  The Worthington information was compiled for a book done by the Worthington Historical Society in 2006. The Davis Estate homes are almost all cape cods.  I believe there are 81 properties in Davis Estate.  The streets in Davis Estate are W. Stanton, Emerson, Sharon Springs, W...

This is a photo from March 1940 of the northwest corner of the intersection of Park Road and Galena Road from Don O'Brien's series on Flickr.  Mr. O'Brien who posts photos on Flickr as dok1 . Please visit his Flickr photo stream to walk the  Worthington Streets in a series of photos he took in the 1930's and 1940's, growing up in  the Worthington area. This would have been way out in the country back then...  He wrote on a photo showing the Methodist Children's home on High Street, that it was in the country north of Worthington.  The north border of Worthington was still North Street. Galena Road is now known as Worthington - Galena Road. This is inside 270 so south of the Polaris area now. The corner today - Map of the intersection of Park Rd and Worthington  Galena Rd.     The Brookside neighborhoods Brookside Colony, Brookside Estates, Brookside Village, and Brookside Woods are all in the 43235 ZIP code.   The Brookside neighborhoods are east of Sawmill Rd.  The four Brookside neighborhoods are north of 161 (Dublin Granville Road) and inside 270.   Brookside Estates was built around Brookside Golf and Country Club... most of Brookside Estates is east of the golf course...  Brookside Estates West is west of the golf course, of course... Brookside Estates West really does NOT show on this map, the 1 on the map just north of 161 is in Brookside Estates West.  The number 11 is probably also in Brookside Estates West. Brookside Village and Brookside Colony are north of Snouffer Rd.  Brookside Estates and Brookside Woods are south of Snouffer Rd.  Brooksid...

There is no Sesame Street in the Worthington OH 43085 ZIP code... or Columbus OH 43085 for that matter. I used Google Maps to be sure. Wouldn't Worthington area neighborhoods be easier to sort out if they weren't all named Worthington? Remember "One of these things is not like the other..." Just in case you don't remember here is song from Big Bird....  OK the big bowl of bird seed....is not the same as the other three. You knew. "You are so smart!" One of these things is not like the other... Magic in Worthington? I am NOT a J.R.R. Tolkien fan... not that I have anything against them,  I just never read any of the books.  I saw and enjoyed on some levels the 'Lord of the Rings' movies but could not really follow them. The books by Tolkien had Elves, Hobbits, Trolls...  and more...   Here's a "Google Map" of  Middle-Earth done by Daniel Reeve a fan.  The maps as I understand them show where the Elves, Hobbits, Trolls etc. live. I have never thought of Worthington as a very whimsical place but Old Worthington has a Fairy Garden and there are signs of a local Leprechaun population: Pat's Fairy Garden is at 777 High St. Worthington 43085.  The garden is in memory of Pat Pabst, a volunteer at Worthington's Griswold Center who passed away a few years ago.  The fairy garden south ...

This is an old photo taken by  Don O'Brien who posts photos on Flickr as dok1 . Please visit his Flickr photo stream to walk the  Worthington Streets in a series of photos he took in the 1930's and 1940's, growing up in Worthington.  This photo is used with his permission. In the comments on Flickr on O'Brien's photo titled "Uptown Worthington, Ohio 1939"  someone asks where was the Kroger store?  Does anyone know?  O'Brien says there was an A&P in Worthington too.   To me and my magnifying glass it looks like the A&P was two doors down.  Or am I imagining it says "Atlantic & " above the semi truck in the photo? Today's Worthington Kroger is all the way up in Worthington Square... just south of 270.  The corner of W. Wilson Bridge and High St. would have been way out in the "boondocks"...
