Pergo is a BRAND NAME of Laminate Flooring. It is similar to how Kleenex is a brand of tissues or Band-Aid is brand of adhesive bandages. Lots of people misuse the terms in all 3 of these examples.   There are many brands of laminate flooring, including Pergo, Armstrong and Shaw. Pergo is well known since they invented the category in the mid 70's and began importing to the US in 1994. Hardwood floors are beautiful, last a lifetime (and then some), and they are easy to clean and maintain. Those with allergies and asthma especially prefer hardwood flooring, and we are often ripping up carpeting to convert to hardwood, especially when people are moving into new homes.     If customers can't afford hardwood flooring, they will sometimes revert to laminate flooring or carpet. Many of my customers ask me whether prefinished hardwood or unfinished hardwood is better and which costs less. We install both types of hardwood, and the truth is, it depends on which of below factors is most important to you. Definitions "Prefinished hardwood" means that the hardwood has been finished in the factory and then you just install it. "Unfinished" means you have raw hardwood that needs to be nailed into the floor and then sanded & refinished on-site. Benefits of Prefinished hardwood flooring 1.  More scratch resistant/lasts longer. Prefinished hardwood is 7-10x more scratch resistant than unfinished hardwood.
