Fireworks are really fun to photograph, if you know what you are doing.  Personally, I love taking photos of fireworks on the water because you get the added benefit of the water reflection which seems to make them extra special.  Sister villages Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow joined forces once again to create a wonderful display on the Hudson River right next door to Lighthouse Landing. I managed to get there about 2 hours ahead of the main event.  I decided to work from the vantage point of the River Walk  on the Tarrytown just south of Sleepy Hollow.  I  was early enough to get a nice spot and I shared a bench with a very nice family who had two adorable little girls who were having the time of their lives enjoying the River Walk.  Another benefit to being on the water is that although... 07/05/2013

The photo above is a scene that will be history in a fairly short amount of time.  I took it of the “old” or “current” Tappan Zee Bridge from the River Walk right at the border of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.  For those who are interested, the Hudson Harbor complex was slightly south and to the left of the shot. In any case, three designs for the new Tappan Zee Bridge were just released for public consumption.  They are are very different from the original bridge design and will change the landscape forever.  You can view them at this link.  Behind all the ramifications and politics there is an urgent need for a new bridge.  Where many feel the the system has fallen short is with the loss of a proposed mass transit system that would have relieved the traffic flow across the bridge and e... 12/06/2012

Tarrytown NY 10591 - Tarrytown is holding it's Annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 27th, 2012... it assembles and starts at Patriot Park at 6 p.m.... everyone is invited to watch the parade, or participate and march, take in the music, local fare, entertainment and attractions for young and old... there will also be a scavenger hunt with prices... DJ  and live band... and new for this year... "Dining On The Street" sponsored by local restaurants...   One thing I keep hearing over and over again when I read about how people get great photos is simply – ALWAYS HAVE A CAMERA AVAILABLE!  Well, I really have to agree on that one.  On Sat., Sept 8, we had a big storm moving in.  I knew it was coming, but thought I had a while. Anyone living on the eastern portion of the Hudson River will attest to the fact that there is nothing quite like a sunset over the water.   The light reflects off the water - even the choppy water of the Hudson - to create a spectacular display every single night.  There are some seasonal differences.  The pink hues seen in this picture are pretty characteristic of the summer months.  The people in that sail boat were lucky enough to have a front row seat.... © 2012 - Ruthmarie G.   Here’s hoping that everyone had a wonderful Independence Day.  I had a great time with my camera this year.  In the end, I ended up taking photos at two fireworks events.  The first was at the Kensico Dam in Valhalla.  This was a free event that boasted some 20,000 guests.  The place was packed, but I got there early enough to get a reasonably good spot for me and my camera…     More on that later.  The photo above was taken on July 4 2012 in Tarrytown.  The display took place in Tarrytown’s “sister village”  Sleepy Hollow.  Planting myself on the River Walk near Hudson Harbor ensured me a front row seat.  For those looking to go in 2013, be advised that you need to get there early.  I arrived 2.5 hours before the event and it was already crowded.   Below is a collage of photos from t... 07/06/2012
