A old well brings out the child in me When I see an old well I get the childish impulse of running over to it, leaning over and shouting really loud just to hear the echo.  But then there is a battle with the other part of my brain which tells me to stay away because I might fall in.  Okay so I give each a turn :) This well probably was constructed around 1710 when the house was built.  I did take a peek, it seem rather deep, however since I was with clients I resisted the impulse of shouting down the well.

Ever wish you could own a house in the country but can't afford two mortgages?  You may want to consider buying an income property that you can also live in.  There are not many income properties that are also in beautiful vacation area locations that are zoned for multi-family unless the property is "grandfathered". Grandfathering means that the property existed in its current state before the zoning laws were changed that prohibit any new properties like this from being built or converted. If you can find a property in a beautiful location that has 2 or more rental units you are in luck!  You get to use your property and have tenants pay the mortgage.  If you are thinking of finding a property in the beautiful Hudson Valley, in Ulster County, New York, consider this: A 4 unit property...

Okay, so I love my town.  I get up in the morning peruse the real estate dailies, drink a cup of joe and make some music.  The cool fall air inspires as the leaves start to change and I teach a youngster the way of the trumpet.  In the afternoon, I escort my clients through the streets of High Falls, Stone Ridge and Rosendale as we make our way to New Paltz and end our journey at the local Starbucks.  Yeah, not the most hippy dippy thing I do, but hey there is only one and I occassionally need a strong fix. It's almost time to pick my daughter up from school and then off to soccer practice.  My shins hurt for her...but bruises are healed by the taste of sushi as we relax surrounded by the infamous stone houses. You will come to love Stone Ridge too...stop by and give it a try!

Stone Ridge residents will vote on Aug. 11 to select a pair of Stone Ridge Library trustees from among three candidates as well as deliberate on a proposed budget hike for the library. A recent press release, reporting on the election, stated that library officials will propose an expenditure of 217,642, which is a 14.8 increase over the 189,567 budget passed in 2006 (the last year in which an increase was requested). Suzanne Hauspurg, president of the library board, expressed that the library had no alternative but to ask for the extra money, citing increasing overhead in the operation of the library as well as dropping value in common stock held by the organization. "Our oil bill will nearly double this winter, to more than 9,000," she said, "and other expenses are soaring as well." H...

Local historian Charles William Cullen will be giving a slide show presentation in historic High Falls. The highlight of the presentation will be the now-defunct 135-foot-long suspension bridge/aqueduct that once spanned the Rondout at a location locally known as "The Ledges". The Suspension aqueduct was a fundamental component of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, more commonly known as the D&H Canal. Ground, on the D&H Canal was officially broken on July 13th 1825. After three long years of construction by a team of over 2,500 men, the canal was opened for use in October 1828. The Canal began in High Falls, New York on the Rondout Creek at an area later referred to as Creeklocks, located between Kingston and Rosendale. From High Falls, the canal proceeded southwesterly along the Rondout C...

Seeing Jennifer Fivelsdal's post on the Hudson Valley Smoke House prompted me to write a blog dedicated to a Hudson Valley business I have come to know.  Usually in a pinch for a closing gift I run in there and grab a nice bottle of wine or two.Stone Ridge Wine and Spirits located in (you guessed it) Stone Ridge New York is a great little wine shop.  The owner Tim Sweeney is one of the most well schooled wine enthusiests I know.  With tastings, wine dinners and other wine related events, he is very well connected to his customer base.  If you are in the area stop by and say hi to Tim (Tell him Lou Lynch sent you . .  he might give you a discount).  Great idea for a closing gift. His website is pretty cool too.  He has it loaded with food and drink recipies.  The food recipies have wine ...
