      If you're seeing spots on your carpet, you can probably make use of these simple tips for removing common carpet stains.   Tar, grease, chewing gum and wax Remove as much as possible by gently scraping with a dull knife, then treat the stain with dry-cleaning fluid. For chewing gum, try applying ice cubes in a plastic bag to harden the gum before scraping.   Cigarette burns Patching is necessary for complete repair, but you can mask the damage.  September 19, 2007Liz and I are native Staten Islanders. Though we live in New Jersey (Hey, New Yorkers do you need a transplant to help you buy a new home in New Jersey? If so, call me!) our family still enjoys the leisurely 50 minute ride back to "the Rock." One of our favorite haunts is Snug Harbor (as kids the grounds were known as Sailor Snug harbor because the complex was originally built as a retirement home for sailors). At Snug Harbor on Richmond Terrace you will find the Staten Island Children's Museum. You can access the Museum's website at www.statenislandkids.org. My favorite section is the Insect wing. Once again the Staten Island Board of Realtors was a proud sponsor of this years Relay for life event .  It was held on June 8th and 9th 2007  at the Wagner college campus SI, NY .  This event is held yearly, it is a wonderful touching event.  Every year there is a theme, this year was the Italian feast.  Most of the participants pitch tents and stay overnight.  People walk or run around the track all night long.  The American Cancer society along with their volunteers always do such a great job making sure the event is successful.  There's always so much to do and the event offers entertainment day and night.A.T. Growing up on Staten Island, we all knew about the dump, a huge landfill situated in the Fresh Kills down at the end of Victory Boulevard. On hot summer days you smelled the dump. Now that I'm older and live in Monmouth County, New Jersey, I think more about the ecology and what type of world our grandchildren will have. Clean water? Trees? Grass?
