Rockville Centre New York's 22nd Annual Halloween Costume Parade and Party are scheduled for Sunday, October 28th, 2012. Youngsters pre-K and up, their parents and families are invited to join the parade which starts from the Village Green on Maple Avenue at 2 p.m. and proceeds down to the Recreation Center on Oceanside Road.  There will be games, fun and prizes for the costumed marchers.  Everyone must register for the parade and/or party at the Center for $8 per family. In case of rain the parade will be canceled but the party will begin at 3 p.m at the Recreation Center. Fill out a goblin slip at the party and you may receive a goblin call and a goblin prize on Halloween evening, October 31st. 10/08/2012

  Rockville Centre NY is hosting a mural painting contest for boys and girls in grades 4 through 8.  They must register by October 16th at the Anderson Recreation Center on Oceanside Road in Rockville Centre. The annual mural painting contest will be held on Saturday, October 20th from 9 a.m. to noon. The Halloween artists are invited to paint on paper that is taped to the lobby and auditorium walls of the Recreation Center.  Plaques are awarded by a distinguished panel of judges. 10/07/2012

  The dedication of Rockville Centre's 9/11 Memorial will take place on Sunday, October 21st. at 7 p.m.  It will be held at the Village Green on Maple Avenue in Rockville Centre. This dedication is a chance for the residents of the Village to share the comfort of community at a brief candlelight prayer vigil. Residents are asked to bring candles.   10/03/2012

  The Rockville Centre Recreation Department and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation  present the annual freshwater fishing clinic at the Hempstead Lake State Park in Rockville Centre, NY.   The Rockville Centre Police Department is partnering with the US Drug Enforcement Admin. to sponsor a prescription Drug take back day.  It is set for Saturday, September 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rockville Centre Police headquarters at 34 Maple Avenue, Rockville Centre NY. They will be collecting potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription medication for safe disposal.  This will be free and anonymous, no questions asked. Many medication left in cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse and many people do not know how to properly dispose of unused medicines.  Flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away are both potential safety and health hazards. 09/21/2012

The annual Kids Fest free open house celebration at the Anderson Recreation Center on Oceanside Road is scheduled for Saturday, September 15.  It will run from 12 noon until 4 p.m. There will be refreshments, give aways, pony rides and other attractions for Rockville Centre families to enjoy. Representative from all the Village's sports organizations will attend as well as the Rockville Centre Police and Fire Departments.  Other attendees will be the Post Office, the Library, the Guild for the Arts and the Rockville Centre Lions Club.   The Rockville Centre NY Youth Council is hosting a Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign presented through visual arts. The mission of this project is to raise awareness of the fatal realities that too many young and talented artists succumbed to as a result of substance abuse. The exhibit contains 50 mannequins created by the students and are now located in different locations around the Village of Rockville Centre. The mannequin dedicated to Janis Joplin is located at Century 21 Sherlock Homes, 43 N.   Rockville Centre Village's 119th birthday celebration is Saturday, July 7th at the Mill River Field on South Park Avenue in Rockville Centre. There will be food vendors and entertainment beginning at 6 p.m  The South Shore Symphony concert of summertime favorites will begin at 7:45 and the Grucci fireworks display over Mill River will begin about 9:15.
