  Rockville Centre NY is an incorporated village located on the south shore of western Nassau County on Long Island.  According to the 2010 Census the village has a population of 24,023 of which more than half are women. The village employs about 223 people and operates a police department and a court system.  It has its own electric, water, public works, sanitation, parks and recreating department and a senior services agency.  It also contracts with a volunteer fire department.   There is a new restaurant in the Village of Rockville Centre called Bonefish Grill.  I believe that this is part of an upscale chain that is mostly found in the South.  The community has been eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant and well as me. I got a chance to go last night and it was a wonderful experience.  It started with the valet parking company, pleasant, well dressed young men who took time and care with the car. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and the wait staff couldn't have been any better.  They were all so well informed, pleasant and actually looked like they were happy to be working there.   The Village of Rockville Centre NY will be celebrating it's 121st birthday celebration on Saturday, July 12th, 2014.  There will be food vendors and entertainment beginning at 6 p.m.  The South Shore symphony concert of summertime favorites will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the Grucci fireworks display over Mill River will begin about 9:15 p.m.   The event will be held in the park on South Park Avenue by Mill River.   The Rockville Centre Fire Department recently received a Nassau County grant to refurbish and rededicate Fireman's Memorial Park located on North Forest Avenue. The work includes a new memorial wall and monument with an eternal flame, new brick walkways, flag poles, lighting, plantings and an irrigation system.  Work has already begun. The funds received from Nassau County fall a little short and thus the Fire Department is offering the public a chance to place an engraved brick in the walkways honoring a Rockville Centre Firefighter, a Rockville Centre Resident who perished as a result of 9/11 or to honor the Fire Department.  Each 4x8" brick can be engrave with three lines of fifteen characters for a $100 donation.   The Phillips House Museum of the Village of Rockville Centre NY on 28 Hempstead Avenue is open, free to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and by appointment by calling 516-764-7459.
