It is not easy being a photo-journalist when you are emotionally involved... I am working on a project with my gal pal Jessica Klein and plan on sharing my by-line with her. I mentioned in Facebook that I was covering a 4-alarm fire that still has my neighbors and I in shock because we frequented the businesses that were destroyed in Rego Park. Jess and I are doing a YouTube regarding the aftermath of the blaze and the music, photo-montage and video clips are edited, arranged but waiting for the final audio overlays for publication. A new superhero on the planet?  Living in L. A.? There are heroes... there are superheroes... and then there's Hancock (Will Smith) - this line was directly from the movie poster. Tooth and Nail isn't what I'd call a horror flick. There's some shocking violence and a few events that try something like suspense, but it isn't scary!! The world is thrown into a violent disaster as the last oil well is bled dry. Without gas everything goes to hell, and the majority of humanity is dead (what happened to the usual ‘super flu' or nuclear bomb?). Petroleum supplies vanish, and soon after so do electricity and any form of civilization. People are trying to survive as best they can. This was completely not the movie I was expecting. Sure, the violent Russian mob side of things was expected but the characters and the course of the story were totally out of the blue for me. Too many hints about how everything and everyone come together in this snugly-constructed film would be unfair; suffice it to say that it has plenty of twists and surprises along the way to a satisfying conclusion that isn't pushed too far. With mob movies I feel like there are three ways you can go; either you ‘Goodfellas' it and have one of your own turn on the organization or you can ‘Donnie Brasco' it and have a cop infiltrate the organization to take it down, or you can go the ‘Godfather' way and have it all be about the fighting within the group itself.
