Budds Corner is located between Route 9 and Route 9G in the town of Red Hook.  So named after the Budds family and there are still members of this family residing on this street. On Budds Corner can be found a couple large farms.  I was once told that the corn crop need to be knee high by the the begining of July so when I go by in the summer I make a mental note. This is also a great spot t to shoot some lovely sunsets. River Road is a very scenic route stretching from Rhinebeck to Red Hook.  You really don't have to guess as to which river it is near, the Hudson River of course. On River Road you will find beautiful homes, estates, farms, open fields and fantastic views of the Catskill Mountain and Hudson River in some spots. River Road is a route you will take if you get off the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge and is heading to Bard College or to a performance at the Fisher Center. On the way you will past  the well known Migliorelli farmstand, and Poet's Walk a park operated by Scenic Hudson.     On November 7th The Friends of the Elmendorph will hold a silent auction, a fundraising event to help with the maintenace of this beautiful space. Back in December, I wrote about the Elmendorph to bring attention to the highly successful winter market.  At that time, I mentioned that it was The Friends of the Elmendorph who were instrumental in saving this building from a state of disrepair.  The event will feature a dinner, a silent auction, and Jazz music provided by the Will Smith Trio. I don't know if this is humorous Monday. However, I had such a crazy start to my day that I just had to share this, now that I can laugh about it. My husband is fortunate to be one of those people who has a vacation day today.  I thought it would be nice to make him breakfast before heading off to pick up some signs and remove a lockbox for the property I am closing on tomorrow. Okay, so here is where it gets funny; I cooked bacon, toasted an english muffin and was in the process of making some scrambled eggs when I decided it would be a good time to also make him a cup of espresso.  So here I was thinking about the eggs on the stove while making the espresso. The Red Hook Country Inn is located, as the name implies, in the town of Red Hook in Dutchess County NY. I recently sat down to tea with Pat Holden who co-owns the Inn with her husband Chef Nabil Ayoub.  Pat wanted to share some of the history of the Inn as it was passed on to her. The building was constructed in 1841 as the home of the town's doctor.  This home was located across from the lawyer, banker and the bank; you could say this was the It location. Sometime in the early twentieth century the house was sold to the Knous Family.  The property was then transformed into a tavern.  The story goes, Mrs. Knous would cook that morning and sell it as lunch in the tavern for 50 cents per plate.  And everyone in town knew what the Knous family would have for dinner later that day; whateve... 09/06/2009

Red Hook is one of those towns where you are not likely to find a fast food chain; instead you will find many Mom and Pop operations.   According to a recent New York Times article  the Hudson Valley is once again the place for some from New York City to buy their first home.  The buyers are purchasing homes under $400,000.  Reviewing the Red Hook real estate market report I noticed there were over 40 properties in the price range below $400,000, so to all you potential buyers Red Hook would be a perfect destination.   Last month I gave sellers some advice as to how to gain a competitive edge,  it  really comes down to pricing. Last year I wrote a blog about blueberry picking in Red Hook, NY and posted a short video.  Well, late last week I received a call from someone who wanted to know the price of blueberries in my area.  Immediately I asked her if she had been reading my blog, she said she Googled blueberries and my blog popped up.  She told me she had first called the place but did not get a hold of anyone so she figured she would call me.  We had a great conversation and after that I could not get blueberries off my mind.
