Starting July 1, 2008, at least 3 hours of fair housing and anti-discrimination content must be part of the 22.5 hours of continuing education criteria for renewal of a New York State real estate license. In NYC the brokerage community has been following strict guidlines regarding Fair Housing Laws this past year. Questions that were routinely asked by brokers and coop boards are no longer acceptable. Fair Housing means that you have the right to live wherever you choose and be treated according to the same rules as everyone else. Fair Housing laws promote equal opportunity and prohibit discriminatory practices that can unfairly limit the housing choices of numerous groups.  The NYC Human Rights Law prohibits housing discrimination in New York City based on a person's real or perceived ...

It is nothing short of a miracle that this tiny church remains.....directly across the street from the site of the World Trade Center.  A tiny, historic church that was preserved.  George Washington prayed here and in fact, had his very own pew.  The memorials they have inside are a beautiful tribute to all the lovely souls lost on that day.      A Teddy Bear collection was started by an out of state school teacher; her idea was to get one to every child who had lost a parent.  The numbers donated went far beyond, donations of more then 15,000 bears came to New York.             A Video runs in the church; here an overhead shot of one of the Memorial Days held there.             A riminder of the walls that covered our City. In the days and weeks to come, it was then Mayor Guliani who b...

For the most part, I don't go to the site of Ground Zero in New York City.  And hesitated showing these pictures to upset anyone.  As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, I love to show all the beauty of New York City and I do in many of my posts.  This is only the second time I have been to this site because the energy, for me, is too strong.  There is a sadness that permeates the very air-and I have to go somewhere after to allow it to dissipate. This was the site where the Twin Towers stood.  There is so much construction there you cannot get anywhere near it....the memorials on the fences are gone and have been moved into the tiny church directly across the street that survived the attacks.  When I think of that time of course there is a great sadness but also a reemergence of New Yo...

I love Feng Shui everywhere.  From the huge Corporations to the smallest spaces, they are always fun for me (and hopefully to my lovely clients).  This was a Feng Shui Consultation in Manhattan and an absolute delight.  My client had already hired me for her other small space in a beautiful area of New York City I hadn't seen before....You may have read the posts:  Feng Shui New York City Studio: Working in VERY Small Spaces by Feng Shui Long Island  and  Feng Shui in New York City @ Historic Tudor City by Feng Shui Long Island *Note:  After our Feng Shui Consultation for her Studio, she made some changes and another Studio in the same area became available....she has since moved (her intention) and loves her new space! This time she called me to Feng Shui her office.  It is located in ...

Yet ANOTHER Activerain SUCCESS Story I have had more then a few clients find my posts on a Google search when looking for a Feng Shui Consultant in New York and this one was no exception.  Some clients will oftentimes come across one post that strikes them-and they will call you.  From the things you write and the pictures you show they believe you are the person they are looking for. I know there is some controversy about posting the "before" shots of a home when staging....or when implements Feng Shui and doing a Redesign or "Makeover" and it's a point well taken.  A while back I had done a New York City Apartment with Feng Shui and the specific purpose of having my client change her bedroom to attract some love into her life. Some of you might remember it:  Feng Shui A New York City ...

Feng Shui in New York.....Apparently The Mandarin Hotel hit a home run with Nita Ambani as well.I thought this was interesting enough to pass along.  Especially since the economy is not at it's best at the moment.  Custom homes are one thing, but THIS is the world's first BILLION dollar home---and it's built on the principles of Vastu. The lobby of The Mardarin Hotel in New York City (Manhattan).Vastu and Feng Shui have been intermingled for years as many of the properties and the ideas behind it (such as The Elements and The Energy) remain the same.  Vastu is at least as old as Feng Shui (which is estimated to be between 3 to 5,000 years old) and is practiced in India primarily.  There are  not many (if any) Vastu Practitioners to my knowledge in the United States so it's likely that pe...

New York & Feng Shui:  Blending the Two TogetherI always wonder if you took a random group of New Yorkers' and asked how many believed in Feng Shui what the percentage would be.  I would love to do one of those polls where you just choose random people and get their thoughts and ideas of New York Feng Shui.As a Feng Shui Consultant for New York City you know you'll find me there often with my daughter who had been training for five years and I am now convinced knows as much as I do.  She is terrific at a consultation and no longer needs a senior Feng Shui Consultant with her; I'm very proud of her.  Besides my own on site training with her she's had some of the best teachers around and has attended many intensives. And one of the best ways to teach is what we had the opportunity of years...

I had a wonderful Feng Shui Consultation in New York recently with an interesting story.  The client who had called had been fortunate enough, years ago to have had a Feng Shui Consultation with a Feng Shui Master who came from China.  He practiced what is known as the "Form" School of Feng Shui, an art that I don't believe is taught here any longer. It is one of the oldest schools of Feng Shui that we are aware of and he advised my client in his office setting to be "backed up in life."   The Form school teaches you to have the Mountain at your back for support and water in front of you for Energy.  You are also supported on both sides when this method is done correctly.  He advised my client of some changes to make and his business began to turn around and prosper. We do, in Feng Shui, ...

Not long ago on one of these beautiful days a client was gracious enough to walk back to Penn Station with me after a New York Feng Shui Consultation.  She asked why I would travel to New York City to do my Feng Shui Consultations when I live on Long Island.  I explained how much I love the City and that I felt the Energy was very different in NYC than on Long Island.  It can also be more challenging to do all the New York Apartments, Condos, Co-ops, Studios and Businesses because they came in so many sizes and shapes.  There are Feng Shui solutions to everything that are easy and inexpensive and I loved the opportunity of seeing so many different types of housing. This was not a day for Feng Shui, however.  This particular day was, according to the weatherman, going to be a beauty.  As ...

Years ago (and yes, still today on occasion) I will do a Feng Shui Consultation for someone for free.  There are people that contact me that have very sad situations in their lives and simply can't afford to pay for one.  Not being the "business-person" I should have become years ago and believing so strongly that Feng Shui CAN and WILL help them, I will do a full consult and not charge them. Otherwise I charge what I believe to be below the regular "going rate" so that people from all situations can afford them.  For that reason I may find myself in a Mansion on the North Shore of Long Island or a Corporation in New York to do a Feng Shui Consultation or I may find myself in an area locally where we are freezing because the owner can't afford to turn on the heat.  They, too believe in ...

I hate to blame the bearer of bad news; it’s really NOT fair. I’ve noticed lately that I’m beginning to dislike the arrival of my mailman. Since I have gotten out of the hospital, the bills have been coming faster then I can keep up. You would think they might let you get a bit WELL before they’d start sending these things. Funny with what I’m paying for an individual policy (over $800.00 per month); it amazes me what is NOT covered. Things that you wouldn’t know about, of course, unless you required a hospital stay. I will have to wonder if it should ever come up again if I can afford to go! And you also forget the occasional GOOD things you can receive. A hand-written card, for example. From someone you don’t know so you have to hunt for your glasses so you can see exactly what it is....

In recognition of the fact that many of its students come from cultures totally unfamiliar with sports like baseball, football, and basketball, New York City's Department of Education has added cricket to its list of athletic offerings.  The response is overwhelming. Instead of the expected 4 to 5 teams, 14 schools have formed teams. 600 students are involved. The 14 teams are split into two leagues, each team will play 12 matches, and there will be a championship in May.New York City, more than many other areas in our nation, experiences a great deal of immigration. Through out history, wave after wave of immigrants have come to New York to start new lives. In recent times, many of the ethnic groups to arrive in numbers in New York have been from the Caribbean and South Asian. Being an...
