Wordless Wednesday - Just My Photos Raccoon Saloon Marlboro NY In Marlboro NY, about ten minutes from my house is a lovely restaurant that has been around forever. The restaurant is situated on a hill that overlooks not only this beautiful waterfall, but clear across the Hudson River. Rain kep us from getting any good shots of the river, but this was taken from our table straight down. No hiking involved. Amazing views and a great veggie burger too.     Raccoon Saloon - A Restaurant with a View in Marlboro NY The historical building that is the restaurant was originally built in the 1800's. From what I'm told a raccoon family frequented the area and the Raccoon Saloon was born.  published by: Janis Borgueta Key Properties of the Hudson Valley  in Newburgh NY. Her blog is about living, w...

Marlboro, NY is a hamlet in the south-east corner of Ulster County, in the heart of New York’s fruit-growing region. Located on the Hudson River, Marlboro, NY offers spectacular views of the river and the lush hills and valleys around it. In the 2010 census, Marlboro had 3669 residents. Marlboro was established in around 1697 by English settlers, who found the land arable, and the location near the Hudson River advantageous for transportation. Soon, the docks at Milton, two miles north of Marlboro, was a shipping hub, sending corn, meat and pumpkins downstream to processors and grain mills. Apple seedling plantings were recorded as early as 1760. Grapes were also a popular fruit, and eventually covered terraced hillsides surrounding the town. Marlboro, NY today is still very much a rura...

The tax man cometh to Marlboro. If you live in the Marlboro Central School District like I do, you'll soon be getting some bad news in your mailbox. The district is raising school taxes an average of 37%. This couldn't come at a worse time for me and many of my neighbors. Many homes are in foreclosure, the unemployment rate is high and the price of everything from gas to groceries is out of control. Now this. The school district was sued by Dynergy, a power company that owns 2 power plants in the Town of Newburgh. A court found that the school district had over assessed the power plants by $565 million, now the other property owners in the school district are left picking up the difference.  Homeowners who live in the Town of Newburgh and the Marlboro School District are getting hit twi...

Elementary and intermediate schools in Marlboro School District are starting 15 minutes later this year. Classes at Marlboro, Milton and Middlehope Elementary Schools and Marlboro Intermediate School will begin at 8:45. School administrators decided to make the change to give school buses more time to get kids to school on time. Last year buses were often late, because of all the rush hour traffic on Route 9W during the morning rush hour. School administrators had the choice of adding more buses or changing the start time. They decided it made more sense to start classes 15 minutes later. The School Breakfast Program will still be available for students when they arrive at school.  The first day of school in Marlboro is September 3.
