Hyde Park Real Estate In 2007 only East Fishkill and Pougkeepsie had more home sold than Hyde Park.  The number of homes sold were 163 and this was probably due to the fact that the area had more affordable homes. The median price was $250,000 and was just $25,000 higher than Amenia which had the lowest median price in Dutchess County. During the month of June there were 9 closed sale, and for the year 58 units, which is about a third of the total sales last year.  What does this mean? for the period from July-December about twice the number of  closing would have to be made to keep up with last year figures. Hyde Park is referred to as Historic Hyde Park the home of FDR.  This town is a major tourist attract throughout the year.   DID YO KNOW FDR WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE BUILDING OF THE...

The past few nights the moon has been real bright and the coyotes are howling like crazy.  I grew up in the town where I now reside and do not remember hearing or even seeing coyotes very often as a young child or young adult.  Last night I was awaken to the howls of at least 5 or 6.This year while hunting I saw what I thought was a Siberian Husky that had gotten loose only to realize that it was a large coyote.  It was so big that it made me have second thoughts about being in the woods sitting on the ground with a bow and arrow.Everyone I talk too has noticed an increase in the coyotes hear in Hyde Park, New York.  They are becoming a concern.  The other day in mid day my dogs were going nuts and would not stop.  When I finally looked out the window I saw why, a large coyote crossing ...

Being a local native,  I have always identified myself with my mother's side of the family which is a huge, extended Italian-American family from Poughkeepsie.   Recently one of my clients told me that he knew my father, who is deceased.   Growing up in the area, most of my father's family had passed away when I was very young so I didn't get to know them or know much about my family history.  The conversation with my client sparked my curiousity and I did a little research and found out that my family has a history of serving the local people of Hyde Park.    It seems that my great-grandmother served the Vanderbilt family at their country estate in Hyde Park, now ofcourse known as the Vanderbilt Historic Site.    My great uncle served the people of Hyde Park as an auto-mechanic at the ...

I love my little town.  I was born and raised here, yes I am cultered and have lived in other places like Greenwich, CT, Tarrytown, NY, White Plains, NY , Stamford CT, and New York City.  I returned to Hyde Park because it has so much to offer. First it is home to one of the most loved Presidents,  Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  I have never meet a person who did not admire this man.  His home and Presidential library are here.  A great place to visit.  During the Spring they have a WWII exhibit, the kids love it, Tanks, gear and all.  For more information go to: http://www.nps.gov/hofr  Plenty of hiking trails abound!Secondly, the Vanderbilt Mansion and historic site http://www.nps.gov/vamaw which is about 3 miles from the Roosevelt Home. This is a photo of the interior of the mansion tha...

My town did it, the little town of Hyde Park, New York, zip code 12538 practically banned outdoor wood burning furnaces.  As my understanding of the law reads that takes effect January 1, 2008.  These furnaces are banned unless you own 10acres of land and the unit must be placed 300ft from your property line.  Only those grandfathered by use prior to the date or for agricultural purposes are exempt.  Wow oil is $3.15 per gallon and wood is a great alterantive but they ban the wood.  Don't get me wrong i know some people burn things they should not and these things are not meant for your regular subdivision, but what's wrong with wood.  It reduces oil dependancy and is very renewable.  One thing humans have learned to do well is to regrow forests, not rain forest but forests. My oil consu...

Staatsburg, New York 12578This small community located by the Majestic Hudson River is a hamlet full of beauty, charm and history. While visiting this lovely community stop to see the beautiful River views at the Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park. This park offers camping, hiking, jogging, and cycling. There is a marina for boats to access the Hudson River.Staatsburg (formerly known as Mills Mansion) is one of the elegant estates built in the country. This mansion along with 192 acres was donated to  the State of New York in 1938. Visitors may tour the mansion from Mid April thru Labor Day.As a resident of Dutchess County, I find exploring the state parks along the river to be very relaxing. My favorite seasons to sit by the river are Autumn and Winter. The foliage is never disappointing,...

Culinary Institute of AmericaThe Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, affectionately know as the CIA, recently needed to expand their facilities to accommodate their growing student enrollment.Six buildings were constructed to house over 420 students.  The institution used the opportunity to be more environmentally conscious. To achieve this energy efficient windows and high performance insulated roofs were installed. To provide heat for the facility geothermal heat pumps were also installed.  This effort to go green did draw attention.  It is the Governor of New York, Elliot Spitzer's goal to cut electric consumption by 15 percent by 2015; so whenever an organization undertakes such an initiative it does not go unnoticed because this is helping the governor realise his...

Hyde Park New York A Very Historic Town And A Popular Place to Buy A Home Hyde park is a historic town in Dutchess County New York.  It lies between two other historic towns, Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck. Every year this town attracts many tourists.  It is known world wide because this is the home of the FDR Presidential Library.  President Franklin Roosevelt was the first president to make arrangements for his papers to be preserved in an organized way.  The 16 acre site was donated by his family and he was instrumental in the design of the building which was completed in 1940.  There are many other sites to visit while you are in Hyde Park. I have included pictures of some of the sites of interest.     VANDERBILT MANSION:   This wonderful estate which lies on the banks of the majestic H...
